Best Evil Dead movie?

Which one do you think is the best? I know it’s the cliched choice, but I’d say Evil Dead II, though I haven’t seen the remake. I highly doubt it could overtake the second film though.

Evil Dead. Easily. The work that went into making that film and the results speak for themselves. The awesome camera work, the pacing, the art design, the score… I could go on and on. It’s a wonderful horror film and great example of what can be accomplished by a group of folks with a vision and dedicated to making it happen.

Evil Dead II: Dead By Dawn is very good. But, it’s a silly sequel with a bigger budget and that takes some of the wonders of the original had away. But it is truly funny, exciting, imaginative and a ton of fun.

Army of Darkness… nah. It was funny when I was a teen back in the '90’s, but It’s boring and cringe worthy now.

OH, and the remake… NO. The crew had all the money and comforts they could have asked for. They were working from an idea and script which was not their own creation. There’s no magic to it. It has some good effects, but when the budget has $10,000.00 for every $10.00 the original had, it damn well better.
Something swallowed this films soul. It’s a demon called Hollywood.

Evil Dead II, the most appealing visually, and where Campbell shines the most. It’s also the most nightmarish one, something that often the first film is considered. And the ending is a masterpiece on itself, while I like Army Of Darkness, ending the film on such a note is the perfect conclusion to this story.

All three of them are 5/5 in my book, but Evil Dead 2 is the best, and in my top 5 all time favorites. The remake was good the first time I saw it but now I hate it.

Don’t do drugs, unless you’re with me.

I love the remake. It’s a shame that we have to associate it with those originals.

I’d say I like Evil Dead II the most out of the three, because it combines what I loved about the first film, the cheesy horror aspects, and what I loved about the third film, the cheesy comedy aspects.

Personally, I like Evil Dead the best. It’s got that lightning in a bottle feel of folks genuinely trying to make a harrowing horror movie and getting comedic undertones. Nothing is more horrifying to me in the trilogy than that initial Shelly dismemberment scene. Evil Dead is raw filmmaking at the hands of an extraordinary then-19 year old talent. In many ways, Evil Dead II is more refined, but, as a result, less visceral and spontaneous.

Of course, I still love the rest of the trilogy, as well as the Ash v. Evil Dead TV show.

So I’ve seen the remake, and now I can rank all the films (and TV show)

Evil Dead II (1987) - 9/10

Army of Darkness (1992) - 8/10

The Evil Dead (1981) - 8/10

Evil Dead (2013) - 6/10

Ash vs. Evil Dead (2015) - 5/10
