Good grief. Good grief, do I ever despise passive aggressive people. Good grief, good grief, good grief.

Now I’ve vented, could I suggest the OP make a list of what he or she wants to achieve with this thread (which has apparently become a “discussion”).

Your markdown syntax can make bullet points, it says so in most of HansiG’s posts.

Wouldn’t “Male” be the clinical form of “Men”? Same as “Female” is the clinical form of “Woman”?

I wasn’t trying to be passive aggressive in my post. I apologize for any confusion that that may have caused.

I would like to:

  • Discuss ways to increase the diversity of the Original Trilogy forums, and not just with gender
  • Discuss the issue in general

Yes. You are correct.

How do you plan on doing that if there’s literally no way of knowing what gender/nationality a user is, when all you have to go by is an icon and a screen name?

I don’t mean to be cynical, I am just being realis…actually, for some reason I don’t think that’s the phrasing I’m looking for.

You’re bringing up a great point there. Though, from what I’ve heard from other people, this forum is almost a hundred percent male.

Maybe everybody here is secretly a FEMALE.

I agree, I feel like forcing people to not be anonymous here could really hurt the site. It’s a bit Gestapo-y to be asking for “papers, please” upon signup.

And yes, anonymity is one of the great things about most places of the internet. The absence of anonymity is one of the major reasons Google+ failed. So yes, you’re correct that we shouldn’t remove a sense of anonymity on this website.

It sounds like you feel there’s a real lack of diversity here. Where does this feeling come from? Why do you believe this diversity deficit (which, if it exists, has occurred naturally) needs artificially altering? What ideas do you have for solving this “issue” as you describe it?

I can assure that I was being totally sincere. I just want to make sure that you are in a non-hostile internet environment, and I don’t want to hinder that. As such, I will not talk about the topic from this point on.

You started this thread mang, now you’re stuck with it, so you might as well keep the discussion moving so you may find the answers to your query.

This is why PC culture is despicable. “You disagree with me? It’s because you hate women and minorities!”

This is why anti-PC culture is despicable. “I can’t hate women and minorities without being called a misogynist or a racist!”

My point exactly. I’m not a misogynist or a racist, and PC culture can go to hell.

It seems that most of the people on this forum are men and boys, according to pronoun usage and own self-admission by the users.

Having more diversity allows more people of different opinions and minds to collaborate together. Though, this may be reproduced by just having more people. Also, it feels nice to hear fresh and new voices.

I currently have no ideas on how to fix the issue. That was the purpose of the thread in the first place.

I think that I was unclear in my phrasing there. I probably should have said that I would not discuss the “female vs. women and girls” phrasing topic. I will still contribute to the overall topic of improving diversity on this forum.

No, they’ll read your mind for you and tell you what you’re really thinking. And when they chastise you for the thoughts they imagined you had, saying you never had those thoughts isn’t an excuse.

Some people do it wrong but the point of PC culture is treating others with respect. It’s coming from a good place, which makes me simply baffled when people call it things like “despicable.”

Personally, I feel being vehemently against PC culture is ridiculous. In my opinion, when you criticize people for criticizing real issues, you become a part of the problem,
because you are showing that you are more concerned with people who are supposedly infringing upon your liberties than people who are actually having their liberties infringed upon (which is what they’re concerned with).

Also the concept of this thread is dumb.
