Thanks for the help! I will see if I can find a way 😉.

So Neverar you’ve been working on this for 2 years! Do you feel like the release is getting close? 😃
Shot by shot, as Dr Dre begins his first pass on the film, I am wrapping up my first pass. Actually I’m down to the last ten minutes of non-credits shots, and I’m very happy with the last three reels. I’ll have to give the first three reels another look since my process has evolved quite a bit, but it’s nearing the end of a long road. 😃

Great! What is next? Empire? A re-color of the SSE?

Wow, that’s really exciting.
While the primary goal of this now seems to be a source for Harmy’s 3.0, are there plans to release the full 2011 version recolored?
I’ll think about that when it’s done. Like any long project, I can’t think about much else other than the finish line right now 😉
Oh and as an aside, the final dogfight is grueling. The first few reels benefit from long takes, but this section probably has an average shot length of less than two seconds, I’m seeing a whole lot of variation between shots, and there are a tremendous amount of gradients which are simply missing. Lucasfilm clearly didn’t care about these brief shots.

Here’s a part of Reel 6

Is it supposed to be a very small mp4?
Indeed, it’s the same settings I used for the Reel 4 preview.

Oh, ok 😃 Looks great!
Neverar, that’s looking awesome!
Thanks!
Also, I’ve updated the first post of this thread to include some more current info on the project.

Sounding good as usual. I think it might also be good to mention why you’ve slightly despecialized it, before people either start submitting requests or asking “how you could do _ without removing jabba or greedo shooting”, etc. Since you’ll be working with Harmy for DE 3.0, there would have been no reason to go through all the work fixing the colors of the sunset, lightsabers, and rocks, if they’re the wrong versions. Presumably you didn’t spend too much time color correcting other things like Jabba or CGI ships, and used similar or identical settings to another scene?
Good idea. I’ll add that explanation.

Hey Neverar, will you do something similar with TESB and ROTJ once you’re done with this project?
I haven’t discounted the prospect of doing them, but I’ll decide that after this project is finally finished.

It looks amazing NeverarGreat!
Any new progress report NeverarGreat?
yeah,I would imagine that you’re at least 65% done?
NeverarGreat, when you say having replaced the Binary Sunset and the lightsabers by “77’ versions”, what did you do exactly ?
Did you insert the full sunset footage from the SSE before recoloring it or is it a combination between SSE and Bluray ?
For the sabers, I suppose you rotoscoped the SSE sabers ?
Or are those 77’ elements from other sources (you mention Team Blu’s GOUT in your post) ?
The sabers were rotoscoped from the SSE. I haven’t seen the sunset shot yet, but I assume it’s the same.
The sabers are a combination of the SSE and the reel 5 Tech preview. The preview required significant cleanup, but it had a finer grain structure and so fit better with the blu-ray footage without as much de-graining. The sunset currently uses a combination of SSE and blu-ray, since the SSE shot is quite grainy by itself.

Hi NeverarGreat,
Just wondering what the current status is of your regrade? I’ve moved away from regrading Star Wars, as your version looks awesome and about as good as any bluray based regrade will ever look, so I’m now regrading Raiders of the Lost Ark to match the theatrical color timing, based on litemakr’s LPP preservation.
**Hey Dr. Dre what if we try a reverse psychology tactic?
NeverarGreat, your previews for reel 4 and 5 look pretty good but I’m not convinced you have the colors right for the first 3 reels… could you post previews for those please?
😃 😄
The past month has been somewhat of an upheaval for me, since I’ve basically moved house. In fact, I just got my workstation set up at the new place yesterday, so unfortunately there are no new updates, and I still haven’t fixed reels 1-3. The new apartment is a better work environment at least. I know you’re all impatient for this project and DE3.0 as am I, but life has a tendency to get in the way. As soon as I reach a milestone, you’ll be sure to know.
@DrDre - Thanks. I was looking forward to your project; it looked great and two 1080 color corrections are better than none, but I understand that it’s rather redundant. Good luck with Raiders!
