Try cutting the frame rate in half. I think that should match the original video near perfectly.
I’m not sure I follow what you mean. How would I half the frame rate, and which original video would it match?

Maybe it’s the compression, but Yoda looks like a wireframe model.
Palpatine looks like a malevolent nun! 😉

Here’s another test. It’s a different scene because it’s the only one I have on my hard drive in HD at the moment. It’s SD followed immediately by HD, using the same settings/filters on each.
Is there way to link to that without the stupid autoplay thing coming on by default? Or is this some new crap Vimeo is pulling? The replay button keeps vanishing on me too. : (

I’m saying if you’re trying to match the flip-book style animation of the A-ha video, make the frame rate lower so the motion isn’t as smooth.

Ah gotcha. Any idea how to do that in either Vegas or virtualdub?

I think the SD portion lends to a niftier looking effect. And Swazzy may have a point about making the video purposely choppier.
I agree on the framerate, I got an idea of how to do it on FE and I’ll try it out.
I’m torn on the SD vs HD. I do like the actual look better for the SD, however there is a weird flickering effect in all the SD tests I’ve done that is absent in the HD. Playing with levels does seem to help but it’s a balancing act between flickering and details. The more I change the levels to reduce the flickering, the more details I lose in certain shots (like the one where Palps looks like a ghost nun). And there’s also the wireframe look on Yoda.
With all the time I’m going to end up spending on this I really am tempted to spend the $70 on the professional plug-in…but it just feels like such a waste of money.

That is, unless you think you’ll use it for more than just this one project… Whichever answer you come up with for that question, the easier it’ll be to justify or dismiss the purchase.
I’m sure if I bought it I could find other uses for it, but it’s still hard to justify.
Dammit, now I might just buy it anyway.
Is there any amount of trial period?

Come on, be like every movie in the 90’s, buy a plug-in and use it as often as you can in as many projects as you can.

Yes but it outputs with a watermark.

I don’t get it.

WHM pokes fun at 90’s movies for overusing particular effects because “we already have the plug-in!”

Ah, how did I miss that? I’ve listened to just about every episode.

Mostly just wondering if you’ve had a chance to try before buying, more so than hitting and running (which is, of course, acceptable, if not for damnable watermarks).
UNLESS
You leave the watermark. And each subsequent time you use it, add another watermark.

Lol.
…
Trying before I buy is certainly a smart move.
I wish they would offer individual plug in effects for like $5 each.

Like, if you wanted them all they would add up to more than the package deal price, but save you money if you only want a few things? I think that’s an agreeably friendly business model.

Are you kidding!? That’s the best part!
😉
Pencil rubbing looks better and seems to not suffer from video compression.
How much do you need to purchase the plugin and make the FX logo go away?
