Star Wars: The Force Awakens -- Special Edition

Hello! I have just recently finished a rough cut of what I am calling TFA: Special Edition. Although I am like most of my fellow SW fans who cannot stand what had been to the original theatrical versions of SW, ESTB, and ROTJ, I couldn’t help but take a little inspiration from their SEs and decided to “augment” TFA a little.

No, I did not add in new, pointless VFX because A) I don’t have the time or skills to do that shit and B) I wasn’t going for that anyway. To be honest, I didn’t do a real restructure to TFA. I just took the deleted scenes that I thought would be interesting to see and reinstated them.

I didn’t try to play around and remove the timecode from the extra scenes and that’s because they didn’t bother me. I actually use the timecode as a “footage marker”, like the Alien boxset where you can turn on the markers for the alternate versions.

Only four minutes were added overall, but I enjoy seeing the film with these moments included. If anyone would be interesting in seeing any previews, let me know.

CHANGES:

  • “Finn and the Villager” reinstated
  • “Jakku Message” reinstated
  • “X-Wings Prepare for Lightspeed” reinstated
  • When Kylo Ren meets the First Order officer after Rey escapes, his “Han Solo” line is removed and the scene trimmed.
  • “Kylo Searches The Falcon” reinstated
  • “Finn Will Be Fine” reinstated

The only scenes I did not include were the Snow Speeder Chase, because of the un-finalized VFX, and the Tunnels Stand off, because it’s just silly and unneeded.

If enough people get interested in it, I’ll get a link up.

Love the removal of Kylo Ren’s “Han Solo” line–a much needed cut.

Don’t you find that the “Finn will be fine” scene is super awkward, though? I guess maybe in context is feels a little less weird? Where in the film did you place it?

Also, while I love the scene itself, I actually think that the decision to remove the “Kylo Searches the Falcon” scene from the film’s final cut was the right one. I mean, would he really have left the Falcon intact? Wouldn’t he have destroyed or at least sabotaged it to prevent his enemies from being able to leave Starkiller Base? It just doesn’t make sense. Just my two cents. Thoughts?

I think the “Han Solo” line is cut because he says it on falcon in the deleted scene, which I think is a good scene to reinstate. But yes I agree that the “Finn will be Fine” scene is awkward.

jk its actually a good idea

Haha. Thanks. I thought it would it was an okay idea, but I’m glad someone likes it. I know there’s been word around the campfire of doing extended cuts if the timecodes are removed, but I figured I would go away and reincorporate them as they are now.

I actually removed the “Han Solo” line from that scene for two reasons. 1) Because I think it’s awkward for him to keep to refer to his father in such a way after the reveal of his lineage, and 2) Because the line is repeated in the Falcon Search scene that I reinstated.

As for the “Finn Will Be Fine” Scene, I do think it’s an awkward scene by itself, but with the right context, it can work. I inserted the scene between Rey and Leia’s hug and R2’s reawakening.
