How did the original sail berge assault play?

Neither of the versions for the musical accompaniment as written by Williams match the action, and of course the final film features said cue in a heavily edited form, more so than other cues in the film. So if Williams indeed compose the track for an earlier version of the scene, are there any clues as to how it played, what the order of the scenes was, etc?

Lucas originally had Jabba voiced in English by an ILM editor imitating the lines as read by a non-English-speaking Greek actor. Fortunately, Richard Marquand praised this idea, whereupon GL rejected it immediately.

“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

Yes these sorts of things are my cup of tea!

But unfortunately I have no idea.

If you can find some deleted footage then I might be able to try and make a reconstruction. I did do a rough cut of this scene years a go where I chopped off Bobba fetts head because I wanted to.

But actually restoring original intent is another matter. Grab the shooting script that is your first point of call. Arrange the footage as per the shooting script then look for gaps in the sequence or missing scenes.

That is the best I can give you as a place to start. But working these things out can take an awful long time be warned.

The early drafts will give you perhaps something indictive or in some cases precisely what was planned to go at certain points.

It all depends on how the script was revised. But from here you can start to build a picture to the music.

Also check out any production stills for anything that points to a filmed but missing scene.

It can be very frustrating, but it’s great when you get some of the answers you are looking for and for that reward you get to understand the music and also what footage the music is meant to go with.

But your brain can also end up in knots over this stuff too 😃

You can not rule out music editing also in this game also, it may well be that there is no missing footage but just the music is alternate. There could be footage re-arranged in a different order also and simply no missing scenes.

But the most common answer is actually all of the above!

Deleted scenes are one of my favorite hobbies in Star Wars. I can think of evidence for a few little extensions, all involving Leia. I don’t have time to look up pics at the moment but there is a still of Leia attacking guards with a staff. There is also BTS footage from a distance showing her strike someone, likely the same shot. In one or two of the trailers is a brief shot of Leia which we also see in the movie where Luke tells her to point the gun at the deck, but in this case it’s a fraction of a second longer. In total all this evidence probably adds up to less than two seconds, all clustered in the same portion of the scene. Really all I can conclude from this is that there were probably dozens of minor trims here and there that affected the final outcome.
