He bought a CLD-97 so I could re capture it with much better picture quality.

Okay then... as someone who has made some fairly detailed DVD covers, all of which I try to keep as accurate as I can, what should I call you?

So far I've had "transfer and yadda yadda yadda by TR47" on the covers.... but would you prefer "Cowclops" instead?

Just lemme know what name you want used as I'm polishing up my old cover templates and want to get everything ironed out. (They'll still be called the "TR47 Version", since that's how everyone knows them, but I give props in the credits area to whoever did the actual transfer.)

Not that I don't think that your new version is going to be the definitive transfer (of the moment anyway), Cowclops, but do you suppose it would be possible for a clip to be released so people don't have to d/l or obtain an entire film/set to compare to what they already have?

WOW! we have the creator of the legendary copy with us!
Thank you for your great job...
I look foreward to the upcoming new version...
And now, for your feature presentation:

In this version the word "WOOKIE" has been changed to "HAIR CHALLENGED ANIMAL" and the entire cast has been digitally replaced by Ewoks.

Moth3r, just to clear it up for you and everyone else here, I'm pretty sure that Cowclops has indicated that his new version is definitely going to be DVD-5 hence his stance that LD quality hasn't really taken a hit during compression and that there would be little difference between a DVD-5 or 9.

Thanks for the great work Cowclops! This new version definitely sounds cool, but I was wondering if you've checked out the screenshot threads to see the other great projects the other members (like Moth3r's stunning transfer) are working on, and how they look in comparison to your work?

And not to hijack the thread, but hey Doc!

Great to see you here again! So how are you doing (PM me if you've got the time)?

I knew that - the "j/k" in my post stands for "just kidding". I asked the question as a joke, because it's been asked 50 times already (including on the page before this one).

Cowclops and I agreed that this version would still be called the "TR47" version, not because I made it, but because that is how people have come to know it. It was the best transfer I was able to find and I championed it to help ensure the true versions remain alive in the best possible quality. I engineered a rerelease to fix the flaws and spiff up the set some with menus, a commentary track and better audio/video quality. At this point I am no longer worried about being given credit for doing anything other than getting this version into people's hands. I made it abundantly clear in the past that I did not create this version, but most people still assume I did. I hope this clears this topic up once and for all. Please direct any technical questions directly to Cowclops; I will chime in when a response is warranted. Screen shots should be posted shortly-I will let Cowclops handle that as he has the equipment and software to do so far better than I can.

Yeah, I'm calling them "TR47" for the same reasons of noteriety.

Under the credits area though, I have "Laserdisc tansfer blah blah blah: TR47" though... wondering if that needs to be changed to "Cowclops" now. It's just a matter of specifics that I always seem to involve myself in. Heh.

Great thing about how I have my cover templates set out is that when the new version is available, all I have to do is type "v2.0" and I'm set. Bang.

Errr... TR47 and Cowclops are two different people who worked together on this.

*sigh*

Okay... lemme say this a third time, and this time I'll make it really clear.

I am fully aware that TR47 was just the original distributor. I am fully aware that Cowclops is a different person, and did the original transfer. I am also aware that Cowclops is also doing this new transfer, with the help of some hardware donated by TR47.

What I wanna know is who's name I credit as having done the transfer. Does cowclops wanna be called "Cowclops", or "Spanky Pete" or what? Yes, yes, yes... the set will still be called the "TR47 Version", but I still wanna credit the one who actually did the transfer.

Granted, none of this was really probably worth this much trouble, but I just want to give credit to the one who has already given us a copy of Star Wars that has stood for years as the best... and may very well do so again.

(Just to avoid more problems... I would like to state that the "Spanky Pete" bit was a joke. God forbid someone miss that bit of total hilarity and think I was being serious. )

So to recap: Cowclops and TR47, you guys rock. And Cowclops, how do you want to publicly be known?

How bout Cow47?

ah well ... my vote is for

"v1 & v2 Transfer by : Cowclops" <- put that REALLY small
"v2 Transfer TR47 APPROVED" (or recommended or editor's choice or something like that) <- put that REALLY big
"(some or all?) hardware for v2 provided by : TR47" <- put that i guess medium size

and for even more confusion put:
"DVD Cover Art by : Spanky Pete"

I don't think its really possible to treat the LD material better than I have (with the version that is "sort of done" for now but I still need to make menus). All of this excitement over miraculously picture quality improving filters really mean they miracuously improve one aspect of the video at a complete loss of some other aspect. I say, the more you try to filter it, the worse its gonig to look compared to the laserdisc. All I did was tweak the LD's weird color balance, did some very very weak noise reduction to make it more compressible, and compressed it to mpeg2. Done and done.

I would also like to thank you for all your efforts in the preservation of the ORIGINAL TRILOGY and for posting on the forums - I will soon update all my information on the original set you created - I'm working on a motor/tranny/induction swap on my car[s] so it maybe a few weeks but rest assured I will update all and any information to credit you as the original creator of the "TR47" set.

Again THANKS and much respect!

RiK

P.S. - I've added you to my "Creators" list on my latest NFO!

How bout giving full credit to Cowclops as he has done all the work on the transfers - I mean TR47 only distributes them right?

I do really Dig on the "TR47" name for the first original Cowclops transfer and the "ROW47" name for the RowMan Remix (the set that corrected the 4sec disc change black spot and added menus AS WELL as created the 4 disc "Extras" set that TR47 has also distributed)

I had originally attached TR47's name to Cowclops original transfer as he was at the time the ONLY source for these before I got them but now that we know the ORIGINAL source I feel that we should either credit Cowclops directly in this NEW transfer as in "The COWCLOPS Transfers" BUT since TR$7 has had enough sales of the original set and used some of it toward getting Cowclops that CLD-97 for the transfer. (CC Is it now YOUR CLD-97 or was it only a loaner?) MAYBE the best way WOULD be to give the set a name that PROPERLY credits Cowclops and gives a kind nod towards TR47.... Something like "The CC-47 Set" or better yet we should assign a FULLY NEW name to the set like "The TK-421 Collection" if Cowclops wanted to remain in the shadows.

Either way the name should NOT be based soley on who had sold a ton of sets (I mean we don't call the MagnoliaFan Edit's the Blaksvn Edit's as I was approved to distribute them right?)

Just as long as it doesn't use "CC." I hate it when people call me CC because "Cowclops" is all one word.

How about you call the original set the TR47 set for consistency reasons and the second set "The Cowclops Set" and somewhere on the case put *Sponsered by TR47*.

So, the new set will hence forth be known as the "The Cowclops Set" then. SWEET!

Thanks so much for all your efforts; your first set was truly most impressive and has become the mainstay in my collection and in many a fans collection as well and I'm sure that the NEW "The Cowclops Set" will be as loved if not more so then your first set!!

After all these debates the simplest answer was the better. "The Cowclops Set" is just great!
BTW, Cowclops, do you have a logo or something, like TR47 did, so I can put it in my covers for the TR47 set?
That same question goes to all the other creators of various sets.

GREAT question!!! (but I did the TR47 logo that's on the covers) - I thought about making one for him also I had a few ideas but I'd rather have an "official" Cowclops logo

What do you mean, did I "Get it" from there?

You looked up my web site and you're asking me if I took something off my own web site? I think it works the other way around... I put stuff up there.

Wouldn't you think it obvious, that if my nick is "Cowclops" and the logo is a Cowclops, that cowclops.net is prooooooobably my own server?

Great work Cowclops and thanks TR-47 for providing me with a copy. I was so impressed I converted them to PAL and made menus and intros for them which mirrored the Official DVD Trilogy. Sure the menus aren't as groovy as those, but they're still pretty cool nonetheless. Motion video chapter selection and stuff.

Cool logo!
Thanx Cowclops...

As for the other creators: Could you please back this effort of gathering everyone's logos?
In my point of view, this is a magor factor of the label creation...
