You say that as though I just asked about what’s wrong with Plan 9 from Outer Space. It’s a fair enough question; Thunderball isn’t some widely hated film by any means.

The Jungle Book (2016)

It’s a solid movie. The CGI is mostly good, the characters are good. There are a few bits that pulled me out of the movie (a wild animal talks about ointment??) and the ending feels a bit rushed.

The big issue with Thunderball stems back to the fact that it was supposed to be the first film made and multiple scripts were written. The original story was created as a film treatment then abandoned. With all this previous work combined with a novel that is rather meandering at times it was perhaps not the film to make after thre massive success of Goldfinger. Here the producers literally were throwing in the kitchen sink and director Terrence Young could only do his best to get the thing finished as they set a hard and rather silly Xmas release date.
Peter Hunt had to somehow cut the 4 hour slow mess into what we have. So it could have been much much worse but here are plenty of Young flourishes to make T worthwhile.

I think that’s the original Cloverfield, which I never bothered watching because it was all found footage shakycam style.

10 Cloverfield Lane is about a paranoid old man who rescued and/or kidnapped a young woman to protect her from the Russians and/or aliens and/or pretend the woman is his daughter. It’s a great movie.

Deadpool - 3/4 Stars

Pretty solid movie. Had me laughing throughout. Definitely something you could watch multiple times and still not see all the little pop-culture references and easter eggs they filled it with. It may have been a bit gratuitous at times, but it fit the character well.

You can definitely tell that this is going to set the tone for a lot of the more violent superhero films in the future. Hopefully they’ll be a bit more understated, though.
