Star Wars Video Games - a general Random Thoughts thread

TIE FIGHTER was a really great game for DOS/Windows in the 90s. I spent hours in front of it. Whoever designed the game really understood Star Wars and what makes it cool.

Jar-Jar is the Emperor in the extra special edition of ROTJ (scenes 1, 3, and then 6 to the end).

I wish Star Wars: First Assault wasn’t scrapped. I was semi interested in 1313, but it just looked like another cover-based shooter. First Assault looked like it was going to be a spiritual successor to Republic Commando, which also had a planned sequel that was scrapped, Imperial Commando.

I’ll always regret never figuring out how to beat the LEGO City bonus level of the LEGO Star Wars Complete Saga game.

LEGO Star Wars is fun. The Rogue Squadron series is fun. Dark Forces is fun. Republic Commando is pretty fun. I never got into any of the Battlefront games or X-Wing/Tie Fighter.

The one thing about LEGO Star Wars that saddens me is the fact that it’s based on the prequels. The first one is the best LEGO game, and I have to be constantly reminded of the PT while playing it; it does make more sense than the films, though 😉.

Same thing with Republic Commando. It’s probably one of my favorite Star Wars games, so it saddens me even more that it takes place within the PT.

Really? I played Lego SW II first and after that I tried Lego SW but it was missing a lot of the improvements of the second one so I lost interest almost immediately and didn’t even finish the first Episode. Being based on the PT didn’t help, either.

What most people probably see as improvements, I see as needless additions to gameplay that don’t actually improve. Like everyone being able to build broken set pieces. In the original it was only force users that could repair those, and I think that worked well.

EDIT: Not to say I don’t like LEGO Star Wars II, but I just don’t think it quite matches the quality and inventiveness of the original.

The phantom menace game is my favorite one. No kidding it is a perfect blend of action and puzzles. Also am I the only one who misses the days were you could save your game pretty much were ever you wanted? Video games do that less and less nowadays.

I honestly had a ton of fun playing Star Wars: Obi Wan on the original Xbox back in the day. The Star Wars-ised monologue from Trainspotting over the end credits was the best part.

Also: since there are so many retro Star Wars games available through Steam and GOG now, how long do I have to wait for Force Commander to come back?

Keep Circulating the Tapes.

^ This! I’ve fond memories of being able to explore Theed and Tatooine, talking (messing) with their people while advancing the plot. It wasn’t the best videogame of its generation, but I think it was very refreshing, especially for its sandbox gameplay.

And Jar Jar can be killed by firing squad! What’s not to love?!

You could also kill Jabba, but then the game would’ve forced you to die by spawning immortal guards, trap doors and finally assassinating Padmè 😄

LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga is probably one of the best Star Wars games. The level design is always top notch (The PT levels are really, really fun and I don’t actually like the OT levels as much for some reason), the visual humor just clicks with me, the gameplay is good, and it’s an amazing couch co-op game. I’m pretty excited for LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens even though I didn’t like to movie too much because the gameplay refinements look really good. Too bad it’s apparently going to be voice acted. Republic Commando is also an excellent game and I hope the rumors about Imperial Commando are true.

The Phantom Menace game was incredibly fun and I have very fond memories of playing it with my dad when I was maybe 5-6.

I especially love when you are running and suddenly you fall through the solid floor and into an infinite void or graphical glitches.

My little brothers’ favorite bit from the TPM game was the guy on Tatooine who would insist that you stop pushing him if you Force Pushed him. Which they would have me do. Repeatedly. For hours.

Really? What version did you play? I recently replayed it all on PC and I never met bugs nor glitches (except for the fog missing, but I fixed it by using dgVoodoo to emulate an older video card).

The PS1 version, I’m imagining. It was the buggiest game I’ve ever played.

Whenever I played LEGO Star Wars: Complete Saga, I was obsessed with killing Lobot. I do not know why, but I always had the urge to kill him when he was near. I have asked other people that I know about this phenomenon and they said that they too felt this. What could this mean? Perhaps Lobot is actually Snoke! The game knew all along!

That should be canonized. Make the PT/SE-verse a computer simulation created by less-than-advanced aliens.

“Apprentice of the Force” wasn’t that bad either, but it’s noteworthy only after applying my own patch :p

I want to believe: I knew Lucas was actually an alien, this explains everything from Jar-jar slowly taking on the Senate, to the alien in Indy 4!

They’re his movies and he can do what he wants to with them.
