Info: Evidence of TFA Changes in Blu-ray?

I know that there’s another thread about this, but it has not been re-opened despite the Blu-ray release date passing. I ask that a mod merges this thread with that one.

A Redditor noticed differences in the arrangement of flags at Maz’s castle. This could either be a difference between the trailer and the actual movie, or the theatrical release and the blu-ray. Nonetheless, I thought it would be worth discussing.

Often shots from the final cut of a film will look different from the trailers that are released while the film is still in post.

Yeah. Chewie we’re home shot is different too. And many other shots were unused. So far, considering none’s analysis of the credits, I don’t think there’s any reason to think they’re less than 100% identical. And I don’t agree with anyone who says the color was changed.

What is this exactly?

In the other thread I started I mentioned BB-8 made a noise not present in the BD.
I stick by this.
Around 50% of the cams have that noise, and it was definitely there when I saw it in the theater 10 times, every time. Whether it was an audio error for some prints or some versions had it and some didn’t due to differing audio tracks, I don’t know.
All I know is that the BD does not have this and there are cams that do.
Take it as you will, but that noise BB-8 makes during the shot sounds exactly like a noise BB-8 would make, not an audio glitch.

Having listened the the soundtrack album almost constantly since December, I watched the bluray end credits for the first time last night and couldn’t believe the amount of extra music in there. Very strange… certainly not what was on the album, and certainly not what happened in the cinema. (Although that I believe was also slightly longer than the album. The FYC site had the longer credits on there, with more of the resistance march) So there’s the album end credits (obviously just an edit for listening purposes) then the cinema end credits, and then the bluray end credits! No idea what extra info is in there though to necessitate the extra run time.

Perhaps you just recognize the score more easily now. I know that was the case when I saw it again in the theater after listening to the CD a bunch.

It could also be the levels sounding different on a home setup. Others have claimed that they hear the score more clearly now. Though I think it’s still too quiet.

I agree that the score differs from the CD (it always does) but I notice no change on the BD. And none quite thoroughly compared the content of the credits.

Either way, this is a good example of how useful a cam bootleg can be, though not for the credits. Maybe someone will check if you have anything specific in mind.

Actually that is the cue as written and recorded, the FYC version just tracks a bit of music from March of the Resistance, if you compare that section of the Album and FYC tracks and the March track, you can hear the differences and similarities.

The film uses the longer Concert Version of Rey’s Theme and Scherzo for X-Wings, the theatrical used the FYC version of the end credits cue.

Yeah, but I thought the rule was the the FYC must represent the music as heard in the film, and I’m fairly certain the resistance march went on longer in the cinema. So I’m assuming that’s how it was theatrically compared to the album.

I’ve just had another quick listen, and there’s about an extra 1.30 of Rey’s theme to what I heard in the cinema, and another 1.40 ish of Scherzo for X-Wings between that and the moody secondary motif for Kylo. Admittedly I can’t be absolutely sure that the Scherzo section wasn’t there in the cinema, but I do know that Rey’s theme was shorter as the last time I went to see it I remember making a mental note to edit some of the concert arrangement into the end titles to lengthen that section as I thought it was a shame it wasn’t longer. Very interesting!

Sorry fishmanlee, I realise you’ve basically just said the same thing as me a little more succinctly!

What has been definitely identified on the Cinefacts.de forum are the changes in the audio mix, as this has been reduced dynamically compared to the theatrical experience.

According to information there (http://cinefacts-forum.kino.de/243067-star-wars-das-erwachen-der-macht-26.html#post8393023), the center channel of the BluRay has been “brickwall-limited” (i.e. dynamically compressed), therefore lacking pressure.

Yes, I felt that the opening sequence with the Stormtroopers storming the village lacked something audiowise on the blu-ray, the blaster shots didn’t have the punch I was expecting. Is there any way to get hold of the theatrical audio mix, some Cinema DTS-HD mix out there?

Holy…you can see the hard brickwall cutoff in that waveform. WTF Disney?? I don’t even like the film and I feel bad. BD at home allows for greater dynamic range than the usual terrible theatrical presentations of today…and usually it is left as-is for modern releases…until now. We’ve been fighting loudness in music since the mid 90’s and now it’s coming in movies…come on…what is wrong with people??

I watched the movie with headphones this weekend and definitely heard something during that shot. Maybe it’s lost in the mix.

R2D2 never would have allowed this to happen. TFA is the worst.

It appears the entire soundtrack has been altered.
The image transfer of the BD is great.
The audio is passable at best.

So wait, what’s been changed?

Incidentally, amazing. Even with George Lucas gone (no offense), they’re still making changes.

Poor mixing is unfortunate, but it’s not really the same thing as intentional revisionism.

So now we have to find the theatrical mix?
