No, it was not. As I said, the plot was rehashed ANH plot. Finding Luke was a completely useles header and footer.

Can you please stop using this conversation as an excuse to call this a SW remake?

Pointless request.

Luke needed at least one line of dialog. He should have said, “Hello, Rey. I’ve been expecting you.” Then she pulls out the light saber and he stares. That would have been so much better and satisfying. The wordless ending felt useless. The ending was just meh. Exciting to see Luke, but I was expecting more. This movie so needs a fan edit. Minor tweaks, but it so needs them.

So a film in which the plot is about finding someone has an ending that isn’t meaningful because they find the person the plot revolves around?

[…] Finding him was the plot…

Hey, don’t throw AVGN’s gifs at me, ok? 😄
No, I’m not saying they should’ve not found Luke in TFA. I’m saying that it would’ve mattered more in the film if finding him answered the reason they were searching for him in the first place (save the Republic/Resistence, bring balance, whatever that is). The main characters have to do something so they can get something, generally that’s how plots go:
-they have to destroy the DS to save the Rebellion;
-Luke has to face Vader to save his friends;
-Luke has to face his father to save him, while the Rebels have to destroy the DSII to defeat the Emperor;
-the jedi and the Queen have to stop the Trade Federation to save Naboo;
-the Republic have to kill Dooku to prevent a war (but fail);
-Obi-wan and Yoda have to kill Sidious and his apprentice to save the Republic (but fail);
-Rey and the other have to find Luke to ?

In a way, TFA’s end is abrupt, doesn’t conclude its plot in a meaningful way.

I think part of the problem here is that the search for Luke leads to nothing actually meaningful in the end, it has no impact on the plot, not in this episode anyway.

Wait, there are more movies coming? THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING!

Are we talking about movies or television series?

I have no idea what some of you are talking about.

So you want an entire arc of an entire trilogy (being the destruction of the First Order/Saving the Republic etc.) to be in the first film?

-Rey and the other have to find Luke to ?

Start her training…

Well you’re entitled to your opinion and though I think Luke should have had dialogue I’m more than okay with having there be none which builds this momentous confrontation to even greater heights for VIII

Not necessarily: having him helping destroying the SKB, or even having him answer meaningful questions on his exile, would’ve been enough.

-Rey and the other have to find Luke to ?

Start her training…

Which doesn’t happen in TFA, though, unlike in the above examples I quoted.

No problem, just sharing my thoughts.

Fair enough. If we were keeping most of the story the same where in the film would you believe to be the best time that Luke is found?

Which doesn’t happen in TFA, though, unlike in the above examples I quoted.

Doesn’t really need to. We already know it’s going to happen.

So if TFA ended with Rey getting on the Falcon to go find Luke, that would have been a better ending than her finding Luke?

What?

Did it happen in TFA? Then it was bad.

The Person in Question

It would have been kind of funny if he had only said “No” and the movie ended immediately after that.

Weird because all the characters spent a long time talking about it and then taking action based on it?

VIZ TOP TIPS! - PARENTS. Impress your children by showing them a floppy disk and telling them it’s a 3D model of a save icon.

By “useles” he means “I didn’t like it.”

Lol, that pretty much sums up many of the complaints I’ve heard about the movie.

Ok this is unrelated but who is the chick in your avatar?

I forget her last name but her first name was “The Velvet Underground and”.

They could’ve kept it the way it is and gave Luke a few lines to make him answer about his exile and what’s his next move.
Alternatively, they could’ve had BB-8 already owning a complete map, so they can find him as soon as he gets to the Resistence’s base, so he can help with SKB. Of course, if you want to keep most of the plot the way it is, some scenes may need to be trimmed in order to fit in a 2 hours movie.

Maybe, but my point is that every movie should close its main plot. I think it could’ve been handled better, but I understand your opinion.

That would take more than a few lines but I see what you mean.

I would have been fine with that. Though I don’t think I would want him actually flying. I’d probably want him using Battle Meditation or something.

Also if he were back it would have been nice to see a scene with him and Kylo Ren.

Maybe, but my point is that every movie should close its main plot.

Which they did.

Me too but I still liked that we got to see him again.
