Movies generally considered "bad" that you like. — Page 9

I like it except for that annoying woman who almost ruins the whole movie… Mostly nostalgia reasons.

Frankenstein meets the Wolfman, that’s another film I often see written off as cheap, poorly written, inferior to its predecesors, etc. Like so many films with troubled post-productions, I’m certain most of its problems come from it being mercilessly cut to shreds. The finished product still features stellar performances by Channey and Lugosi (what remains of his footage, that is), as well as some beautiful cinematography.

The Matrix Revolutions

Perfect ending, impressive action scenes, wagnerian music, intelligent symbolism. Even better than the first one. Only Reloaded is kinda mediocre (the narrative is great but it takes too long to get to the Architect, the most important scene of the trilogy).

But…but…how?

I won’t even try to convince anyone. This movie is under-rated because not understood I guess. This is on every level the perfect conclusion of the trilogy. It has to be deserved. I understand that mainstream viewers hate it; it’s too daring, too complex and too simple at the same time, too naive in its beauty (this soundtrack, Don Davis masterpiece with Reloaded). The reverse mirror of the first entry. Brillant. Not surprised to see that the official troll around hates it (it proves it’s an awesome movie).

This is someone who thinks TFA is the worst Star Wars film other than AOTC, so I guess TFA is not understood in reverse.

What about the people who liked that film prior to Gareth Edwards being confirmed as director of Rogue One? Also, I’m guessing that most Star Wars fans dislike Robocop 2 even though it is directed by Irvin Kershner.

I really like Robocop 2, the only thing letting it down is it’s Robocop 2. Most of things it does had already been done in the first film only sometimes with less flare.
The scene where the previous Robocop 2s are shown to the board of OCP is genuinely funnier than anything in the first film and the scenes with Murphy’s wife are better than the same sort of thing in the first movie. But it’s redundant because something like that had already been done.

That’s the one thing that keeps you from liking Robocop 2 better than the original?

I started watching Robocop 2 after really loving the first one, but turned it off after I realised they had wiped Murphy’s brain in bewtween films.

Not enough people read the EU.

The best sequels of RoboCop are Total Recall and Starship Troopers.

RoboCop 2 and 3 are equally (very) bad, for different reasons. At least the third one has Poledouris back with a tremendous score. Starship Troopers 2-3-4 are also quite terrible films. Never a good idea to make a sequel/remake of a Verhoeven film.

Yeah, Basic Instinct 2 wasn’t that great either. But after reading such horrible reviews I was (slightly) pleasently surprised that you coud actually watch the film. It would be a little better if it didn’t happen in grey and gloomy London, it’s just visually so uninteresting. But Sharon Stone was still hot and good in her role.

I haven’t seen either Basic Instinct (and I’m proud of that achievement).

Trying to find themes that tie together bad movies I like, or movies I like for the wrong reasons, I found I have a soft spot for movies that take themselves way too damn seriously, but they always work out to be comedies in my book. I cannot watch Silence of the Lambs with a straight face. It is impossible. Yet, even though I recognize that’s not the goal of the film at all, I love it, and I feel it achieves its horror/detective genre goals as well, although I can’t quite get there myself because of the hilarity. Wild Things is a little different. First, you have to watch it in French. Because a trashy American movie is just trash, but a trashy French movie is edgy. Also, with different voice actors, you can kindof pretend Denise Richards isn’t really in it, so there’s that. Then, thusly enfrenched, the movie is fantastic. The actors are all acting their hearts out (voice actors too), as if they are completely unaware what sort of movie they showed up to act in today. All except Bill Murray, who is fully aware what he’s soaking in, and he hams it up appropriately. So for this one, I like it for the comedy value, but I can’t really claim it achieves any other genre goals other than making me like Bill Murray even more than I already do. Signs I just can’t save. It’s the only movie where I (and the friend I watched it with) were falling out of our seats laughing at the opening credits. So, so, so very serious. Such drama. Unfortunately there wasn’t much else to recommend the thing, but the opening credits I could probably do again.

Call me crazy, but I love Denise Richards.

I liked Denise Richards in that one episode of Lois & Clark. That’s where my appreciation for her begins and ends.

No, but I don’t think she’s terrible.

In what universe is Silence of the Lambs generally considered bad?

It didn’t fit the thread, but it fit the pattern I’d identified for the other two films, and the other two films definitely fit the thread.

The first one is good, I recommend it.
