What do you want to happen in the the rest of the ST?

Since everyone has their own theories, hopes and whatnot I think this would be a good thread for everyone to say what they would like to happen in the rest of the ST. No matter how unlikely these wants are post them whether it be minuscule things or plot points.

My version of how I want things to play out will not be a happy one.

Episode VIII:

  • Rey and Kylo Ren’s training are both shown and a 1 - 3 year time lapse occurs due to to their training
  • Snoke’s identity and/or his endgame is revealed
  • Luke hasn’t been just doing nothing in solitude; he’s actually been training a new wave of Jedi to destroy Snoke, Kylo and the rest of the Knights of Ren
  • After the destruction of the Hosnian system and (and at least some of) The Republic Fleet The First Order with the help of the Knights of Ren have turned the tides and is on the verge of destroying the New Republic
  • Poe and Finn become close friends and this bond is exacerbated due to the shift in the conflict
  • Kylo Ren’s fully embraces the Dark Side and all the light in him was snuffed out by killing his father and the completion of his training; as a result he is more mentally unstable he evolves from destroying machinery when angry to killing his fellow comrades with little to no provocation
  • Phasma is adamantly searching for Finn and is absolutely ruthless due to the embarrassment she faced in TFA
  • Rey finds her ability to command of The Force intoxicating and yearns for more and more power but keeps this to herself
  • Rey gets defeated by Kylo Ren and is told he wiped her mind when she was 13 and the memory of her being left on Jakku by her family as a child was a false memory and also that Luke Skywalker or Ben Kenobi is her father/grandfather
  • Feeling betrayed that Luke omitted this from her and seeing the utter superiority of the Dark Side she becomes Kylo Ren’s secret apprentice
  • Kylo Ren and Hux’s bantering gets more intense and Hux decides that Kylo Ren must be eliminated

Episode IX:

  • Kylo Ren challenges Snoke for the mantle of Supreme Leader and succeeds in killing him
  • Rey continues masquerading as Luke’s apprentice and ally to The Resistance but is making tactical mistakes that is slowly dwindling them to nothing
  • Finn starts to catch onto this and he starts to investigate her only to be killed by Rey when she is found out; force choking him to death while she is crying profusely
  • Sensing this Luke or one of his other students confront Rey just as she is about to make her escape and a short lightsaber duel ensues but Rey escapes anyway
  • While making her way back to Kylo she is intercepted by Hux and a small squadron of elite troopers lead by Captain Phasma and with her newly found Dark Side abilities she easily destroys them all
  • Warning Kylo of the betrayal they go to kill Hux and the other would be usurpers
  • During the fight Luke, his students and the rest of the Resistance attack The First Order looking to take out all of their enemies in one glorious battle with the little resources they have left
  • Luke and his Jedi fight and kill most of the Knights of Ren (though a couple survive but are mamed) but there only 5 Jedi left including Luke
  • Kylo and Rey crush Hux’s elite soldiers and rather than being subjected to what ever horrors Kylo had in mind Hux takes his life via shooting himself in the head with a blaster
  • Luke and his Jedi strike team arrive shortly there after and Luke tries to reconcile with Rey and Kylo but both are resolute in their ways; redemption is not an option
  • Luke and 2 others engage Kylo and the other 2 Jedi fight Rey but after a while Luke sees this as an act of futility and tells the others to flee while he faces Kylo and Rey alone
  • Luke dies and Kylo along with Rey go on to conquer the Galaxy while the remaining Jedi rebuild the Order.

No way! Disney would never have a gay couple in SW, they’d lose about a third of the audience. Too risky.

Isn’t she too young to be Ben’s daughter? Granddaughter perhaps. That’s actually what I’m rooting for.

Yeah I meant Granddaughter. Thanks for bringing that up 😃

Some particular things I’d like to see in Eps. VIII & IX:

  • Ren to suffer a full psychotic break and go full-on schizo, causing him to hear and see things which aren’t there, talk to people others cannot see, etc. Really make him a dangerous, unpredictable villain who is potentially as much a threat to his allies as he is to his enemies.
  • A morally gray Resistance which isn’t apprehensive about torturing enemy captives, performing terrorist attacks on enemy-loyalist planets, etc.
  • Snoke’s “oral cancer patient” appearance to be revealed as a holographic facade, hiding a true form which isn’t sterotypically evil.
  • Some very surreal Lynchian imagery.
  • Rey with her own distinctive lightsaber at some point (preferably one which isn’t blue or green or even yellow or purple).
  • No more callbacks to the OT.
  • Knights of Ren with non-red lightsabers.
  • Rey to be revealed as Luke’s daughter.
  • A romance between Rey & Finn.
  • Mara Jade’s introduction.
  • Luke not to die.

I get you on Snoke, but highly doubt that will happen. What is the source of your concern about lightsaber color? Just curious. Where do you get yellow and purple from?

TCW and the nuEU have more-or-less adopted yellow as a less common third colour for Jedi lightsabers, so seeing Rey with a yellow lightsaber wouldn’t be all that impressive for me. And Mace Windu had his purple lightsaber, so likewise it wouldn’t be very impressive to me to see Rey with that colour either.

I’d like to see her with a teal or orange lightsaber – both lightsaber colours no character in the new canon has used thus far.

Eh…Orange is such an ugly color for a lightsaber. Blue, Green or Purple is boring but they are at least aesthetically pleasing. I’d rather Rey have a white bladed lightsaber like Ahsoka than to have her have an orange one.

As it pertains to your first choice teal ain’t bad. Familiar but different enough to feel fresh.

Luke and Leia need to live. I was fine with Han’s death in and of itself, but if this trilogy ends up having our original trio getting knocked off one by one, I’m going to be really upset.

I agree with everyone who’s said they want to see the Resistance getting their hands dirty. When we first got wind of rumors that TFA would have a superweapon, I hoped it would be in the hands of the ostensible good guys. I want to see some tough ends-justifying-means quandaries. Maybe Leia pursues some aim obsessively and becomes more and more ethically compromised and Poe needs to bring her back from the edge.

Right now, only knowing Rey from TFA, I don’t buy her turning to the dark side. There’s plenty of time for that to change, though, so I’m not closed to the idea if it’s earned.

My biggest desire right now is for more information about what happened to the Imperial remnant in the Unknown Regions. A couple of nuEU sources have them retreating to there after the Battle of Jakku, the LFL story group brain trust has hinted that that’s where Snoke originates from, and on a tangentially related note Rebels has linked Kylo’s crossguard lightsaber (which I have a pet theory about involving Snoke) to some Old Republic-era deep history stuff. I don’t think I want everything spelled out, especially if it weighs down the story, but there’s a lot of really tantalizing mythology stuff being hinted at and I’d like at least a little more focus on it.

Also, with all this talk about potential new lightsaber colors for Rey, am I the only one who’s just assumed she’d be keeping the Skywalker saber? Is the idea that Luke’s going to take it back? I know we didn’t see it in the film, but Luke’s still got his green one at the end of ROTJ and in a lot of the concept art for TFA, so I figured he’d keep using that one (I also hope he does, because that’s my favorite saber in the entire saga).

My thoughts on the trilogy:

Rey should just be Luke’s daughter. This should not be a big deal like Vader’s revelation in Empire. People don’t allow their parents to define them like they used to, Rey is her own person first and foremost.

Include some spiritual messages/words of wisdom. TFA was lacking on this front, whereas even the Lucas prequels had some sort of message. The closest TFA got to a message was that good and evil will always exist. It’s not particularly deep or interesting, so the sequels need to hit this out of the park. Why is this time period worth three movies? Will the Jedi way finally die? Will it be reborn? Will it finally become meaningful to the galaxy at large, or remain in the hands of a small group of religious warrior monks? I don’t hold out much hope of any sort of interesting answer on this front, but one can always dream.

On this note, move the story from the perspective of Jedi vs Darksiders to one of honest investigation of the Force itself. What abilities will be born from such an investigation? Cool ones, I hope.

Reveal the politics of the galaxy. Again, something that TFA should have included to a greater extent. Where is the political power in the galaxy, now that the Hosnian system is no more? If there is no centralized power, does the galaxy fracture into warring states? Do the Resistance and the First Order form two superpowers? I would find such exposition acceptable, but it would be even better if the sequel trilogy concerned itself with governance more than previous trilogies, since Luke and Leia are now de facto the most powerful people in the galaxy, save the First Order baddies.

Recruit a voice of the people. I want to know what normal people think about recent events in the galaxy. We had the viewpoint from the upper class in the prequels, and our best indication of the state of the galaxy in the OT was Luke’s deleted scene with Biggs on Tatooine, far from the economic hub of the galaxy. The ST needs to provide the perspective of the everyman (or woman).

Incorporate an Asian Force user. A swordfight between an aggressive Force user and a calm master is on my top ten list of things I want to see in Star Wars: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ESfN3lUNRM

A fighter chase near the surface of a star. Just do this already.

‘Snoke is the key to all of this, if we can get him working.’ In all seriousness, a character this powerful had better have a very compelling reason to play his hand at this point, and a convincing argument for why he should rule the galaxy rather than democratically elected officials. I wouldn’t mind if he and Kylo attempted to convince Rey like Vader and the Emperor in ROTJ, but it has to be more than familial bonds, the promise of power, or seduction via anger. It would be cool if Snoke was the last of the race of Celestials, beings which predated galactic history. If Luke was searching for the first Jedi temple because he suspects that it contains information relating to the Celestials, so much the better. The Celestials could even have been the ones to ‘invent’ the Dark Side, as an unnatural offshoot of the spiritual power of the Force. If the Sith were merely the most recent users of this Dark energy, the entire ST would be justified as it reveals that the greatest game in the history of the galaxy is approaching its climactic end.

You probably don’t recognize me because of the red arm.

I’ll try to be brief as I and others have said much of this.

TFA was a fucking fantastic film (can’t wait to watch it again in a few hours!). First viewing was interesting though, because it was probably the time I least enjoyed it. Really, it was a matter of expectations. I went in expecting a lot, more than a single film could do (honestly I went in expecting a trilogy’s worth, if you get my meaning). The biggest thing that went against my expectation is, when it comes down to it, TFA is a reboot. Yeah, obviously it’s a sequel. But it’s designed and acts far more like a reboot than a sequel.

So there are certain things TFA does that I’m okay with but I don’t think VIII will or should do. First of all, I can forgive and actually in some regards really love the homages and plot mirroring. It’s totally fair in the passing the franchise on to a new generation sense, but not moving forward. The other thing is what I guess I’d just call depth - referring mainly to backstories (Knights of Ren, Snoke, the First Order vs. the Resistance, etc. all the stuff not really explained), but also philosophical and thematic depth. For TFA, as the uber fun and exciting introduction to the trilogy, it’s completely fine. But VIII’s when it’s got to get real.

That covers a lot, so I’ll just bullet the rest:

  • I think Rey should definitely be Luke’s daughter
  • If she gets a new lightsaber, it should be green (I like to believe all Jedi sabers were blue before Luke)
  • If there’s a romance, make it Finn and Poe. Not too interested in any other pairings.
  • I’m fine with a Luke death in IX, but not VIII, and no deaths for Leia, Chewie, R2, or 3PO please.
  • Don’t have any idea what Snoke’s deal might be but he’s got to have a real good deal.
  • Use Phasma more please.
  • Resistance should get a bit questionable in their ethics.
  • Rey should NOT turn to the dark side.
  • Honestly not to interesting in seeing classic Star Wars traditions broken, though I feel like I should get ready with VIII most likely picking up immediately after TFA. What’s next? Hopefully nothing too crazy.
  • And finally, can we please get a lightsaber battle in space? That’s all I’ve ever wanted.

Actually one of the siths in the SW fanfilm Contract of Evil had a orange lightsaber so that has already been done(although it was admittedly a none profit kind of fanfiction unlike the EU).

Well what message did STAR WARS and TPM have? I’m excluding the other two movies in both trilogies because the ST isn’t even 2/3 of the way done yet.

Also a smaller message is that family is what you make of it; those around you and those you will meet in the future can be relied on more than the promises of those in the past.

I wouldn’t mind if he and Kylo attempted to convince Rey like Vader and the Emperor in ROTJ, but it has to be more than familial bonds, the promise of power, or seduction via anger.

But unlike Jedi I would rather Snoke not say “Well your friends are going to die” over and over again. They should try to seduce her by showing how the Dark Side will give her power and influence more than the Light Side could and how the Dark Side is free from restrictions while the path of the Jedi is restricting. If not I at least hope that’s how Ben Solo was turned.

I’ve talked to a couple people about this and I love this idea and if there’s anyone that he should be hearing it should be Han.

  • A morally gray Resistance which isn’t apprehensive about torturing enemy captives, performing terrorist attacks on enemy-loyalist planets, etc.

And it would be nice to see this certain character butt heads with Leia as to why he thinks his methods are justified and maybe this person can also try to seize political power through brutal means.

I just want a good, well rounded arc for the trilogy. The OT gave us the fall of the empire and the return of the Jedi. The PT gave us the fall of the Jedi and the rise of the Empire. I want to see the full return of the the Jedi order, but one that is less focused on how to avoid any temptation of the dark side and works on not giving in to the temptation. I think the PT established that the the Jedi had become too focused on avoiding any hint of the dark side at any cost which is not reasonable. I think it was both the Jedi being one sided and Palpatine being so powerful that worked together to unbalance the force and I think Vader killing Palpatine was the first step in bringing balance, now they have to keep the balance. Yin and yang, the good and the bad together in balance. I think Luke achieved it in his battle with his father - he touched the dark side when Vader threatened to turn Leia, but he did not turn. Kylo Ren needs to relearn that it takes both sides to be truly powerful. The Dark Side is raw power and it is limiting and I think we need to see more of that. Easier, more seductive, as Yoda put it, but not more powerful.

I was very disappointed that we didn’t find out more on the state of the galaxy. I think that needs to be fixed. Was the New Republic just in one system or was that just the new capitol, replacing Coruscant. What happened to Coruscant? Is it still controlled by a faction of the old Empire? Has it fallen to ruin? How many systems do the Republic and First Order control?

What I want to see is a solid story that gets completed in two parts. It needs to bring the galaxy into balance and end with most of our major heroes alive and working toward the future. I hope we see the return of Ben Solo - a redemption that does not cost him his life - and a reunion with his mother. Luke needs to stay alive to be the teacher and mentor and Rey needs to be fall into the type of role that Qui-gon Jinn had at the start of Episode I - a true Jedi Knight, guardian of peace and justice. I don’t care how they go about it. I just want some great story telling. From his previous work, Rian Johnson seems to be more like Kirshner and I hope he can deliver a film to rival Empire in VIII. Then the saga needs a killer ending. Rian Johnson is a good writer and his work so far has not fallen on its face at the end like J.J. Abrams work usually does. It gives me hope that he can pull this off.

What I would really like to learn is that even though they pretty much ignored Lucas’s ideas in VII, I hope they return to his arc, at least in part, because he was pretty good at crafting those arcs.

For a reveal that the Jedi Order was founded to defeat Snoke, but Snoke corrupted one of the Jedi, and this corrupted Jedi then founded the Sith. Now that the Sith have been wiped out, Snoke has taken things back into his own hands.
