To start us off; I’m not sure if my use of voiceovers is too cheesy or if it works in the RotS Padme’s Ruminations scene.
Well for starters, I’m pretty sure people making threads for their particular edits is a good enough place for individual feedback, so this thread is a little pointless.
But as for your clip, yeah I don’t think the voiceover works. For one thing, it’s just re-iterating dialogue we’ve already heard, and also, it kind of dumbs it down. What makes that scene great (the only scene from the prequels I would describe as “great”) is the relative silence of it. You get exactly what’s going on internally with these characters without them having to say a thing and without hearing any dialogue. Your voiceover thing reminds me of vader screaming “NO!!” at the end of ROTJ. The scene works best and is the most powerful in silence. The audience isn’t so stupid as to need to have every emotion and internal dialogue of the characters told to them verbally.
I don’t mind the idea of a feedback thread, it’s a place for people to be creative and brainstorm on their fanedits

Agreed. I do find the voiceovers do take away a bit from the scene but great thread idea.
I think the scene works best with no voiceovers whatsoever, the audience should know what Anakin is thinking about, and if they don’t then the movie has failed to achieve it’s goals.

I’ve been working on the Vader ‘NOOOOOO’ scene, what do you guys think?
Tbh the perfect way this was handled was by L8wtr. There are many aspects of his edit (mainly the ending) that I really enjoy, especially how he handles the noooo. You get the awesome shot of Vader rising up with powerful music then sidious asks him “can you hear me”, Vader answers “yes master” fade to black and we go to funeral continuing with memorable imagery accompanied by powerful music till end credits. I prefer Hal’s edit though all the way up until Anakin and obi wan start fighting. Then I switch to L8wtrs to include Yoda/Sidious fight which is trimmed up heavily to reduce silliness and preserve the epic vibe along with the improved ending. Ur take on how other editors like L8wtr have handled this scene?

I prefer seeing Vader’s reaction to Padme dying. One way I’ve seen it done is right when Palpatine smiles, it fades to the next scene, cutting out right before the ‘NOOOO’. This was just a test for me to see if I can make the ‘NOOOO’ tolerable.
Vader rising from the thing he’s on should be the last we see of him. Hell, it should be the last shot of the film. No dialogue, just breathing and then the credits.

I think not seeing him react solidified his turn and made you see that he had now completely put the name Anakin behind him and all people who he connected with the name Anakin also. When I see Vader fully suited up I prefer him being full Vader.

With some tweaking that would turn out pretty good! Although Darth Vader saying “I know the power of the dark side” is just redundant and cheesy. He shouldn’t say anything

One large problem with the “Birth of Darth Vader” scene is that he looks silly with the restraints on his wrists and he has awkward posture, you might just want to use a few shots from here: https://youtu.be/LK58iuqfdxg?t=2m40s
I think I’ll be using those shots even though it’s completely CGI. Darth Vader looks scarier here, I could cut back and forth between the Emperor, the walls being crushed and the video game footage to make a more convincing scene.
When it comes to Darth Vader breaking things, I’ve always thought something like this: https://vimeo.com/160550668 would work more. I have an in-depth description on the video to explain why I tried this. (Note: this is very rough, I did it in under a minute, it’s just a test)

Yeah, if you can replace Starkiller with Palpatine in that scene, it would be super cool.
