We can also use the gallery to show off the subtitles that Catbus made. 😃

Of course, I’ve already made some minor corrections to those files 😉 But what you’ve got is great.

Hey Towne, are you going to release a Blu Ray version of 2.7?

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

The release will be blu-ray compatible like all of Harmy’s.

But do you mean a dual crawl branching option like last time? Between the complaints about the non-1981 crawl, general lack of enthusiasm for seamless branching (which was actually novel for a homebrew disc [thanks to Williarob], and pretty cool IMO), and complaints about the non-DTS HD audio, it seemed like it wasn’t exactly a big hit.

If there’s demand for it, I might do it again, though, since the project would just need the new video dropped in. Definitely only starting with MKV/AVCHD 1977 releases, though.

I’d like to see an MKV with some version of the ANH crawl. I’d have been all over the seamless branching if the DTS-HD hadn’t been the trade off.

The other option is to do a BD50 including the full encodes of both crawl versions, which can then have DTS-HD audio (or to find some way to ‘fix’ the current DTS-HD - they fight with almost every program I throw them at). It would be terribly inefficient, but technically the best presentation. I don’t think it would be worth it, because you would still be limited to 8 audio tracks. I think the best way to go is separate MKVs which can be made into blu-ray via tsmuxer as usual. Very few people are interested in the ANH crawl in general, especially the 1997+ version.

Something I’d like to see too, maybe even as a separate scene altogether instead of making two complete versions.

PLEASE do the 81 crawl and flyover! I’ve been wanting a good quality source of this forever!

There’s no great source yet of the 81 crawl that I’m aware of. As with last time, I’ll probably do a version the 97 crawl with flyover. But it will be a limited release and maybe just for people here (it was unpopular on spleen last time anyway). It’ll probably be a little after the 77 version, because Harmy is going to advertise 2.7 and make a change gallery and stuff, so I don’t want there to be any confusion about what people are getting and what the actual main release is.

The idea behind doing the ANH version was just a nice little bonus for those doing marathons who would prefer it. It doesn’t 100% accurately represent any real version, making it technically a minor fanedit in that it goes from 1997 to 1977. For the intended purpose, I think it works fine. When I watch that scene, the very last thing on my mind is the specific locations of the stars and timing of the planet/moon/etc. However, I fully support the idea that an actual release claiming to be ‘1981’ would need to be frame accurate just as any other shot in the film should be. Which is again why the version is more of a quick hack fanedit than that.

I’m working on restoring the 1981 crawl, but it is not easy or quick. There are only a handful of sources and they all have issues. The LD preservations do not have the resolution and the clip included with the Silver Screen Edition is badly crushed (which has eliminated most of the stars) and is missing the final frame of the flyover. I think I have what I need to restore it, but there are several issues such as restoring the stars and the blue glow from the engines. What has been the largest problem is stabilizing the SSE clip. I think I have that almost finished and it might go quicker after that.

Is the 81 crawl just like 77 but with the added Episode IV A New Hope lines?

The starfield is different as well as the timing. The moment when the camera pans down to reveal Tattoine is not the same. The 77 is spot on but the 81 version is off.

Ah ok. So the starfield changed in 81, and again in 97?

81 uses the ESB starfield, 97 reverts back to the 77 starfield.

I guess I need to do some more research, I never knew this :p

Ah, yes the intricacies of trying to get the 81 crawl just right. Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny. CONSUME YOU IT WILL!!

The differences in the 1981 crawl. Star Wars fades out faster and is completely gone before Episode IV appears at the bottom of the screen. The starfield is unique. It is the same basic starfield as TESB, but only is about 80% the same. TESB shows more to the right, the 1981 crawl shows more to the left so you can’t just lift the TESB starfield and have it be accurate. After it pans down, the moons are in slightly different positions and the Star Destroyer has been better composited to remove the heavy black line you can see as it crosses the larger moon in the 1977 crawl. The 1997 crawl returns to some of the elements of the 1977 crawl, such as the starfield and the moon positions and Star Wars not fading out completely until after the crawl starts. The 1997 crawl kept the recomposited Star destroyer.
