I think all the disney films should take priority for whoever a looking to pick some up. Of all the films listed, they have been handled probably the poorest.

Dragonheart allegedly has too much DNR on Blu Ray, (I haven’t seen it) but the old HD DVD is supposed to be better.

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is a glow in the dark nightmare on Blu Ray. One of the few times I’ve fiddled with the video settings on my player just to make a movie watchable.

NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET II is always a good choice. I haven’t seen the Blurays yet but film is film and an archive of this would be greeted warmly by me.

I am not going to be purchasing any, it is more just a heads up for anyone who might want to purchase a print, as some of these titles rarely come up.

I am completely tapped and currently have no income, and am burning up my last resources doing THX-1138 and another surprise project that I feel is too rare an opportunity to pass on.

These films are for others to take the mantle and run with if they want to, but I can connect you with the owner if anyone wants to pick one up.

PLEASE somebody pick up some of those Disney films. I currently do not have the financial means to, otherwise I would be jumping on these. Early Disney films have been treated horribly, particularly Snow White, Sleeping beauty, and Mary Poppins.

I also don’t have remotely the financial means, but Disney classics are my childhood, and preserving them properly is IMO a must.

I’m prolly one of the youngest people around to have had the opportunity to see Song of the South in cinema (at a drive-in, as a double-feature following Snow White, in 1987).

"Right now the coffees are doing their final work." (Airi, Masked Rider Den-o episode 1)

It would be amazing to have theatrical prints of the old Disney films. For these films we have no high quality versions without all the digital “restoration” Disney likes to do. Pinocchio is easily my favorite animated film and I’d love to see the original version as it was intended to be seen.

Thanks poita! You’re a real trooper!

Of course, if you ever see a homeless beggar, dragging cans of 35mm film while wondering through the wilderness of (middle) earth, call out, “Hey! Ranger!” If he turns, astonished, and drops his pipe, you’ll know what you’ve done to me … (and loving it!).

Getting a copy of Snow White would be a massive help to me. Too bad I don’t have either the money or equipment to handle it!

A lot of people are writing that they have no funds but think it is crucial to save some of these films. It’s just too bad that something can’t be done. Why won’t someone come along and save it?

Anybody can be that someone.

My advice would be to pick a film you are passionate about, and hit up various forums with the idea of raising the funds to acquire the print. It can take a lot of time, and cajoling and creative thinking but anyone can do it, it is easier than ever now with the worldwide reach we all now have.

That is how things get saved, take your passion, find others, get them passionate about it, and then that larger crowd of like-minded, passionate people can pool resources and make something happen.

If you found 200 people that cared enough to punt $10 (i.e. put your loose change in a jar for a month, or go without a coffee or chocolate bar or a beer or two a few times, or start a swear jar…) , then you could buy Sleeping Beauty. A lot of people have thousands of ‘friends’ on facebook, or other social media platforms. Start a group, make some noise, make something happen.
Jiminy Cricket was wrong, nothing happens by wishing, only by doing 😃

Once you have a print there are many options now to getting it scanned and worked on, it all starts with acquiring a decent source, before the sources disappear forever.

You know something? You may be right. Perhaps I can draw out a loan at the bank and get the SW print, then get someone to scan it on my behalf. How much is that one, by the way?

Been on this forum too long. When I see “SW” I immediately think “Star Wars”. I started looking through the list to see if I missed a Star Wars print posted. Took me entirely too long to realize you meant Snow White.

I did exactly the same thing.

I used to do that as well, when I started out. You sort of adjust to it though.

Anyway, if I can get a loan, and pay the collector to ship the film to Britain, I can get someone to scan the film on my behalf. Then I sell the film off, reclaim my losses and pay my loan back. What could go wrong?! All I need is that someone to scan the film, and somewhere to store it in the meantime.

I think that’s pretty much what poita did all the time, right? Buying a print and then selling it off again afterwards, so there’s no money lost.

I didn’t know mid 90’s releases had IB. Hmmm…

Most staggering and important here are Godfather and OHMSS. But while the former is properly restored, it’s the latter I’m aching for. My dream when I strike it rich somehow is to one day own a clean print of all 20 original entries…because I’m that guy. 😉

I wonder how much it’d go for? The values on the Bonds seem to be all over the map, some very high some not so much.

I wish I was making an April Fool’s joke right now. I can’t deliver! 😦 I’ve been informed that my bank will not grant me a loan since I don’t have a source of income. And where in the hell am I supposed to find 200 people who care and trust me enough to punt $10?! And that’s just for one film! I’d have to get a scanner and all sorts of stuff to do the restoration! No, this is the end of the line for me. Anyone else want to take over, be my guest. I’ll just have to go back to my regraded and regrained version.

It probably doesn’t take much to get people to throw in $10, and you might find some that will throw in $50 or more.
There are people who will scan it for you affordably, so you don’t have to buy or build a scanner.

How would you find them? Get creative. Write a blog, post on various forums, find collectors groups online and sound them out, see if there are film groups in your town, have a bake sale etc. etc. It takes a bit of perseverance work and dedication, and sometimes a bit of luck.

There was often money lost, but it means you do recover some of the print costs.

Actually, depending from where the film is sold you’d be better off looking for someone to hold it for you in its country of origin, and then look for the closet affordable scanner in the nearest region to the location of the film.

Anyway looks like I’ll be starting a 35mm project soonish, not based on one of these films, but another well known animation. So keep an eye out I’ll post about it in the next few days or so. 😉

Well is anyone around here willing to do that on my behalf?

Start by getting a quote for SW. At $2000 (price of SB), personally, I’d pass on it but that’s up to you. If you’re committed to it see if you can put a deposit down on it, and then go from there.
