My favorite bit was when claimed The Thing is better remembered than E.T.

they are making a sequel to blade runner, and harrison ford is starring in it too.i think that shows blade runner is remembered more than e.t. i dont see them making a sequel to e.t. and they made a prequel to the thing.

IIRC, Spielberg would have to give to give his blessing to such a project. Don’t you think Universal would love to crank one out? (They’ve only made 13 sequels to The Land Before Time) They’d love to make another Back to the Future movie, but Bob Zemeckis won’t hear of it.
We did get an E.T. ride at Universal, and there was a book sequel though.

Where were you in '77?

well speilberg made many sequels to indiana jones.i cant imagine why he wouldnt agree to e.t. since it made him so much money.

Are you really saying that Spielberg’s only incentive to make movies is money?

Ceci n’est pas une signature.

when he makes that many indiana jones yes im saying that.because only the first one was any good.i wonder if he was responsible for all those bad jaw sequels too?

Steven had nothing to do with any of the Jaws sequels.

This guy uses punctuation and capital letters like jedimasterobiwan.

Not enough people read the EU.

Spielberg made the Indians jones sequels because he loves the character and loves the stories and because the story lent itself to multiple serialized stories. ET does not lend itself to other stories. The story was finished. It’s not a concept that lends itself to serialization the way that Indy does.

Spielberg only made Crystal Skull because George kept begging and he eventually gave in. I’ve seen interviews and behind the scenes videos and you can tell Spielberg really didn’t want to be there.

Also, most people know what E.T. is. Its really quite difficult to find anyone (in person) that has ever even heard of Blade Runner. And most people I know only like Tron Legacy and don’t care for the original, which is a shame.

Blade Runner being better than E.T. is subjective, but it being remembered better than E.T. is flat-out wrong.

And by the utterly useless sequel argument, No Retreat No Surrender is better remembered than E.T.

Spielberg has talked in interviews about how personal a story E.T. was for him. He’s called it his most personal movie, and Elliott is based on 10-year-old Stephen. Probably has a lot to do with the absence of sequels.

Don’t know. Summer 82 made history: Blade Runner, E.T., The Thing, Poltergeist, Dark Crystal, Star Trek II… today we are considered lucky if we get 1 or 2 like these within an entire year…

And to be honest the last classic/history making movie in recent memory was The Dark Knight.

Which does not mean it was the best (Speed Racer was wayyyyyyyyyyy better).

Well, TFA is still not available on blu ray, so until its release we kill some time.

Not much is going to change after it’s release. More than likely we’ll all be rehashing the same arguments again. The real wait is for Episode VIII and that shit is killing me.
