I also want to add that the precedent is damgerous. If 18-20 aren’t adults on one thing, what’s to prevent 18-20 year olds from loosing other rights in the future? What if it leads to the 26th amendment getting repealed? What if the pipe-smoking characters in the OT and Marion Ravenwood get censored for “setting a bad example?”

Slippery slope. No one is taking voting rights away. Voting is an intrinsic right inherent in citizenship, not a vice.

And if you hadn’t noticed, smoking characters in entertainment are few and far between these days anyway. Society has gotten smarter, at least on this issue.

If an adult wants to kill him or herself with a vice like cigarettes, that’s not my business. It’s my business when they are puffing in my face, and since smoking has generally been outlawed in most places I would have to worry about it, I’m fine with the way things are right now.

This is what I’ve been trying to say. You’re an adult at 18 and you go off to Syria at 18.

Maybe he works for Big Cig?

Big Cig actually wants to raise the legal age in order to increase the “forbidden fruit” appeal. They have sponsored legislation to raise the smoking age many times and studies show that a higher smoking age makes more people smoke, not less.

That proves it, you definitely work for Big Cig.

You got any links to these studies? In the article I read about the CA legislation, the sponsor said “95 percent of smokers pick up the habit before turning 21.” I don’t know if this is true, but the reverse sounds implausible. The older we are, the more mature we are, and the less dumb choices we make.

The minimum military age is another entirely different matter, just like voting is. They are separate issues.

I’m conflicted on the the minimum military service age, for what it is worth. But there is a positive to our country for people being in the military. There is not a positive for smoking.

If I were eighteen and in the military (which multiple relatives of mine have been), I think I should absolutely be able to smoke/drink. My Grandfather fought in WWII at age 18 and was not allowed to drink (or vote for that matter!). I heard about that all the time, same with my brother who fought in the Iraq War (the first one), and was legally not allowed to drink in America. If you are old enough to kill and get killed, you are old enough to ingest alcohol and tobacco.

So you think 18 should be the legal drinking age?

As I said, I’m conflicted on the military age. If the argument is that all ages should align, I’d much rather raise the military age than lower the drinking age. The problem is that military participation is not high enough anymore, the military has enough trouble maintaining recruitment as it is without making it worse by raising the age.

If you’re 18 and you think it’s unfair you can kill/be killed but can’t drink or smoke, then don’t join the military.

Pre-adults not being able to smoke (or drink, now?) is still the very bottom of the barrel that holds the problems we face in this country.

Either make the drinking age 18 or the military service age 21. I have no problem with either age, I just cannot reconcile the idea of servicemen & women being old enough to go to war but not drink, or smoke if the age is raised.

I actually can’t join the military for health reasons. I also do not, and have never consumed alcoholic beverages even though I could. My point being that I have no dog in this fight, so I am not passionate about it by any means.

I had assumed that possessed was referencing Snoke, so I decided to post an image of it. So what?

He was.

Don’t dig your heels in, just admit you missed the joke and move on. I’ve done it plenty.

I’ll admit I missed a joke, I just don’t know which joke you’re saying I missed. Possessed referenced Snoke, and I got it, then DominicCobb made a joke about actual smoke, and I got it, then I brought back possessed’s original joke with an image. I think I just did a bad job of it. Sorry. 😄

Ok fine. It looked to me like you were correcting Dom, not making another joke…so apparently I missed the joke.

Listen you stupid cock suckers we are going to have to get to the bottom of who missed what jokes and what exact jokes were missed or I worry we won’t be able to move on - and the discussion about smoking, drinking, and the military will be completely forgotten in the wake of the great joke scandal of 2016.

I think this is clear evidence that people under 18 or over 60 shouldn’t be allowed to try making jokes or try reading jokes.

I admit I missed the joke about the blu-torrents invite.

I’ll admit that TV’s Frink is pretty.

Now that we’re being honest a week or so ago Frink quoted me and edited my post in his quote box, and then replied with “Huh?”. At first I didn’t realize he changed it and I thought he was mocking me, and it made me a little fussy. I got a little fussy for second. I got fussy in there, I caused trouble in there. Really mixed it up there, made noise. We’re all old enough to smoke, drink, and die in battle but we’re never too old to miss something in Frink’s quotebox God Bless.

Giant, irremovable stickers were placed on my Blu Ray case for the theatrical version of Return Of The King. One on top of the other.

Thanks FYE, I don’t know how I lived without stickers like these.

I’m gonna bitch about not having anywhere to go for Easter. Looks like I’ll be having supper at the local shelter if buddy decides to take the weekend off work. We’re not exactly roommates. And I’m really just house-sitting. Sort of. Ok. I’m freeloading. But whatever.

K. Let’s have this ride.
