kk650's Star Wars Saga: Regraded and Semi-Specialized (Released) — Page 30

The PCM mixes are far superior as they are taken from the laserdiscs. If you have a receiver with Dolby it will put it into surround sound for you.

Okay, thanks.
And the ESB Emperor scene with Ian McDiarmid?
If we’re keeping those ridiculous additions w stormtroopers riding dewbacks, surely we can ditch the gorilla-eyed emperor lady?

Author

I actually prefer the gorilla eye lady haha. The Ian McDiarmid they dubbed in is the fuller revenge of the sith one and not the withered skinny looking one in ROTJ. Just looks too “fat” to me.

Author

Okay. Will just have to swallow that the super star destroyer had a very poor hologram projector. No wonder Vader was pissed at Admiral Piett…

KK has said he is going to release a Empire edit with the changed Emperor scene so it should be only a matter of time. We just have to wait. 😃

Hello everybody,

I finaly achieved a quest to get both Star Wars Trilogy (Original from Laserdisc) an Special Edition (1997). Even if I hate the DVD edition (and most, Bluray : “noooooooooooooooooooo” !) I admit I’m quite interested by the KK semi-specialized version wich combined the original plot and some visual improvment (Yavin, Bespin etc).

Like most of the new member, I don’t have any access to myspleen… Is there a chance somebody could send me an invitation or maybe a Mega link for this version ? I will continue to seed all my Star Wars version.

Thanks a lot and I apologize for my English, you may have understand it’s not my first language.

When you have to shoot, shoot ! Don’t talk.

Has anyone checked out the regraded TFA yet? I stumbled upon it in “teh place” about 10 minutes ago. The screencaps looked pretty nice (the skin tone comparisons).

Looks like it was deleted. Makes sense.

Edit: Managed to find some screencaps, though. It’s standard KK type color preferences, where the red tones are taken out of skin. Ends up looking too yellow or desaturated for my personal preference, but it’s very consistent with his normal corrections so I’m sure a lot of people will like it.

Yeah, I have zero experience in the color correction area but now that I kept looking at those screencaps and compared it to the Blu-ray, the “yellow ones” got my vote because the red tone in the originals started to remind me of a sunburn, haha! : D

My advice with color correction is not to go looking for problems. 😃 Whether or not they’re there, you will see them when you look hard enough, and you can never get anything looking 100% perfect. Some things leap out at you with how off they look (Man of Steel, some of the LOTR versions, ANH, etc), and this film doesn’t do that for me. But we all have our own opinions on what’s too far, of course.

Seems like an awesome project! I’m not too sure where to download it from though…

I agree kk650 is way too yellow. I even prefer the official blu Ray disc.

Off-topic a bit: I watched KK’s regraded Man of Steel last night and wow… that one is a keeper! The colors never bothered me with the original version but this one really changed it for the better IMO. 😃

Cool beans! Now back to Star Wars… ->

Tehparadox has been down for a couple days now. Not sure what’s going on, but I hope it comes back.

I think the only thing we’re all going to be able to agree on when it comes to the colours of Star Wars is that we’ll never be able to agree haha red sunburnt fleshtones to me and bromeo look great for others here, DrDre’s latest screencaps for example look too red to me with sunburnt fleshtones but some here love how it looks. That reddish look is not for me, I would personally never grade fleshtones to look like that (unless of course there is a reddish lightsource nearby that justifies it).

There are so many colour schemes for the original film out there that everybody will have the choice to go with whatever colour scheme they prefer. The first film for whatever reason really divides opinion when it comes to how people think it should look. My main aim with these regrades has been to maintain a consistant look in terms of fleshtones across all seven films.

I have also added a 22gb release of The Force Awakens on tehparadox, with a maxed out bitrate version of 49gb coming out very soon.

Don’t worry guys, I have not forgotten about the Empire Strikes Back Semi-Specialised Edition V2.2 with Ian McDiarmid in the Emperor scene, I’v just had a lot on my plate lately. It will be the next release after the maxed out bitrate version of The Force Awakens.

haha indeed! 😉

I just feel bad for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, there’s so little discussion about how they’re meant to look in comparison to Star Wars, they should be shown a little love as well.

ESB gets a lot of discussion for how Hoth at Night and the first interior Cloud City shots should look. Jedi probably gets less discussion because, although they seem to have given it somewhat bluer timing from 1997 onwards, they didn’t drastically change the look of it in my opinion. Since the film sources have come about, there is the issue of whether the Rancor is more brown or blue I guess.

@towne32: What i’m really interested in seeing is how The Empire Strikes Back print looks after the red fade is properly removed, see what the overall colour scheme and fleshtones look like.

All you guys interested in The Empire Strikes Back Semi-Specialised Edition V2.2 with Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor, I just finished putting it together. Sorry for the delay, I know some of you have been waiting for this release for a while. It’s now up on tehparadox and i’ll also have it up on myspleen in the next few days.

For those interested, a regraded version of The Force Awakens that fits on a bd-50 (the maximum bitrate release is a bit too large) has also been requested a couple of times so I should have that up on tehparadox as well very soon.

I think I can answer that question. I’ve developed an algorithm, that can accurately reconstruct the original colors of a faded print from the print itself, without manual guidance. Here’s what the colors look like for one of the frames piota posted a while ago of his red faded TESB print:
