It appears to be fine now.

I think Frink is pulling your leg. 😉

Where were you in '77?

I figured as much after the bacon post.

Sorry about all my technical difficulties.

What is everyone’s thoughts on the Enterprise model restoration? TrekCore has consistently been putting up videos of the whole process for awhile now.

I haven’t been keeping up on it, but if they can undo the misguided 90’s attempt at a weathered paintjob on the hull, that will be an improvement.

They can rebuild it. They have the technology. They can make it better than it was. Better, stronger, more accurate to the original.

I believe they’re attempting to return it to a Season 2 appearance.

This is probably just so they can say this is the first series since TNG to have a Roddenberry. Or maybe to do with the mixed up rights? It’s certainly interesting.

I must be missing something, because most of the DC additions and alternate takes are an improvement (especially the bit about Scotty’s nephew, which wasn’t in the theatrical cut and caused Scotty’s subsequent emotional breakdown not to make sense) and the color balance and shadow detail are so much better on the DC.

Hunt mentions that he’ll have more news on Star Trek BDs, so I’m hoping we finally get properly restored versions of the rest of the filmography.

Now I’m happy I didn’t buy the blu-ray box set a couple months back. I’ve been working my way through a TOS rewatch at a lazy pace and I considered picking up a used copy when they took the films off Netflix to ensure that I’d be able to watch them at the proper time, but I ultimately decided to wait and see if they would return to streaming by the time I got to them. They did, and I’ll probably watch those when I get there rather than waiting on a new release that for now looks to be a rumor beyond Wrath of Khan, but I’m pleased not to have sunk any money into it prematurely. If this comes to pass, I’ll definitely shell out for the remasters.

The Director’s cut is the dvd. The one labeled theatrical is the blu ray.

Ah, shit. The detail was pretty bad in the clip, and for some reason I had it stuck in my head that the Blu-ray was the DC.

That is absolutely a letdown. Hopefully Meyer’s participation in the UHD release means we’ll get the DC.

Update on AXANAR

They’re not wrong. If Disney/LFL came to us and said, “we’re going to sue you if you don’t stop”, we’d say “you’re absolutely right”. Not try to claim that we have some inaleinable right to Star Wars just because we don’t care for TFA.

Yeah, I did it in an old version of Sony Vegas which can produce only 1080p videos, and if you stack 2 videos on top of each other detail gets lost.

The Axanar situation is ridiculous. So basically every Star Trek fan film is infringing their copyright? And not only that, every youtube video in which the youtuber is dressed in a replica of a uniform is in legal trouble? Or any youtuber who speaks Klingon for fun in any videos? Are they really that insane?

I mean first Axanar, then attacking my channel and many other youtube channels, what will come next? Are they really that afraid that the Beyond movie and/or the new show will suck so much that they have to destroy any potential competition? Or are they simply hunting for money?

The fact that Axanar raised money using the brand with the intention of using it to build a studio for their own use seems to be the actual sticking point.

Besides, after hearing that CBS can’t premiere the new series until at least 6 months after the next movie comes out makes me think it does come down to their fear of customer confusion. “I can already download the new Star Trek movie for free!”

This plus they were paying themselves a salary with the kickstarter money. Thereby actually profiting from the “non-profit” fan film.

But again - you will find on youtube many videos with people dressed up in starfleet uniforms, and/or speaking Klingonese, and getting money for their videos, also making a profit.

Not every video on YouTube is monetized. Any that are would also be in violation. Paramount has made it clear that they’re fine with fan productions as long as they’re non-profit. The makers of Axanar broke that trust plain and simple.

It sucks because it had the makings of something fantastic. But the makers went too far and Paramount is in the right on this occasion.
