What is so wrong about gay romance being in Star Wars? — Page 2

I was trying to give an example as to what I was talking about seeing as how people were perplexed. Things on facebook are subject to being deleted so I decided another path was wiser. I apologize anyway.

Understood. I didn’t know people on facebook could cover their tracks.

If things get too heated, and too far away from Star Wars, we can always move the thread to off topic.

The place where I got the screenshots from was a link posted on a Star Wars fan page. There have been multiple times in which I was going to send a facebook link to someone and whatever it was was already gone by the time they tried to see it.

There are EU characters that might be interpreted as being gay.

Hell, there are EU characters that are out-and-out gay:

Even the nuEU has gotten into the act:

Poe’s law is in full effect.

God if Finn and Poe hooked up it would be the dopest shit in the entirety of Star Wars. I’d start hooting and hollering right there in the cinema. Bring it, Rian Johnson.

They do say opposites attract, but one is a cartoon character…

And the other has been dead since 1849…

Wait, who are we talking about again? 😉

I’m all for it. Honestly I can’t think of an argument against it that isn’t homophobic.

I thought we were talking about Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel. Or was that Georg Friedrich Händel?

Indeed. The Star Wars films have always been romantic, in every sense. No reason at all why modern episodes shouldn’t adopt a more enlightened interpretation, unless the bigot dollar is one that Disney are especially anxious about.

Literally every Star Wars episode has romance or is setting up one. If it’s written well and doesn’t overshadow the main plot I don’t see a problem with it. It has to feel like a natural part of the story and that goes for straight romances too.

I think that’s pretty much the only reason why it most likely won’t happen.

There’s a lot of money that they could potentially loose from trying something like this, heck it could even get the film banned in some countries. Of course Disney would be filthy rich either way, but these are business people after all.

Any country would look pretty silly banning a Star Wars film for a same sex kiss.

I presume Disney/Lucasfilm signed off on that Campbell’s soup commercial that pissed off the usual suspects?

I just see no reason for it in Star Wars. It’s pandering.

I guarantee no one would have said shit if a gay romance was in the PT. Also a lot of people said that making one of the main characters black and making the main protagonist a woman was pandering as well.

Oh, come on, you don’t need a special dispensation from the Pope to put a black guy in a movie.

Star Wars has been primarily straight white guys since 1977. Seems like that’s the demographic it’s been pandering to.

Depends on which Pope.

I know it’s name calling but it’s kind of true. How the actual fuck is a gay relationship pandering? TFA already set up two male characters with a strong bond. There’s nothing to say that they can’t be homo or bi sexual and end up in a relationship. Assuming they’re heterosexual is just heteronormativity which is a type of homophobia.

And if you were gay, do you think a gay relationship in Star Wars would feel like pandering? No, in fact, after 7 gayless episodes (C-3PO and Obi-Wan ambiguity not withstanding) it would feel like Star Wars is finally showing a relationship that you could relate to.
