Hey guys I realise I’m a little late to the party and first off I’d like to give a huge thank you to Team Negative and a big congratulations, it’s simply amazing and gorgeous and is a better version of the film than I ever thought I’d see in these troubled times.
However, I would like to ask how I can burn the film onto a disk. I was able to burn Harmy’s Despecialized Edition onto verbatim DVD+R DL disks but they’re max size is 8.5GB and this is 21GB.
1: Is it possible to put this onto a disk?
2: What disks do I need to buy?
3: If my computer can burn the Despecialized Edition will it be able to burn this (do I need to download any more software or by a different disk drive or something?)
Sorry if my questions have already been asked, I looked through the thread but I’ll admit that it’s late and I may have skim read some pages near the end.
Thanks in advance

Hi, welcome to the forums. these are technical questions though, and will have to be asked in the technical section. You can find that section on the main page of the forum.

Cheers.

At the end of the training remote session with Luke talking to Ben, what are the green ovals in the top right with white scribbled lines for?, in the last sentance or so before you cut to the Death Star board room

I think those are just reel change markers. It’s something we no longer see in digital projection, or on home video, but would definitely be present in 1977. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cue_mark for more info.

Hope that helps. 😃

Or you can watch this scene from TV’s “Columbo” …

…when the detective gets a crash course in reel changes. This is where I learned what that bright colored oval flashes were. 😃

Me Too! Saw it way back in the 80s and never forgot it.

The newest editions of Harmy’s Despecialized are around 20 gigs for both Star Wars and Empire, so if you have 8.5gb versions you have the old outdated editions (apart from Jedi, which he is finishing now.)

To burn this to a disc you’ll need to use blank BD’s and a BD burner. I use an LG burner and Falcon Pro SmartGuard BD discs (high quality media and great printing surface). Assuming you used ImgBurn to burn the old Despecialized versions to DVD, you can use that same program to burn Negative 1’s 35mm presentation to BD, the process is largely the same it’s just that the hardware and disc media are different.

Finally, a version of this movie where the colours don’t look mental. Are there any plans to change the colours in later releases? I think they are perfect the way they are.

Yes, there are plans to change some of the colors. No, they are not perfect.

Because purple skin in Ben’s hut is totally natural right?

Sigh. Okay, “perfect” is maybe a bit of hyperbole, but the colours here are miles better than the Blu-ray, and I find the colours in Harmy’s version to be very unnatural looking.

I think there are portions with pretty big color problems in both projects, and portions of both that look great. The most natural and consistent color timing in fan preservations, in my opinion, are Harmy 1.0 and DJ’s V3. But those aren’t perfect, either. The former could be said to be too close to the blu-ray, and the latter very saturated.

I like how much of the SSE looks, but a lot of the darker interior shots could use a lot of work. Bottom line is that it’s a damn hard film to get looking perfect.

Not only will it then look phenomenal long into the future but people without the ability to use 80GB files can seek out a smaller file version.

Man, 80 gigs!? My torrent ratio would be absolutely smashed to pieces.

Hopefully, “long into the future”, Disney will wise up and give us something a little more official, on 7TB 8K BrownRay 4D hologram media.

And Netflix streaming.

Just re-encode it into a smaller file. Or wait for someone else to do it.

There’s a 720p re-encode that’s 9.5 gigs. I don’t know if that’ll fit on a DVD, but maybe if you delete the foreign language tracks it might?

So, will the BD25 have PCM and DTS-HD MA tracks instead of AC3? Just English/Basic for me for the 35mm, 70mm, and Mono tracks. The rest I’d want subtitled per Project Threepio.
All I need is an ISO for the BD25, without Spanish, and I can burn it with ImgBurn with Verify checked. Or I could use BDRebuilder with it.

The video is pretty much finalized, that result is inherent in our scan. Some color correction may alleviate this.

Unfortunate that this wasn’t caught and fixed in the scanning stage. I’ll second the suggestion that we should ‘pass the hat’ and have it scanned properly.

I have scanned that same print in higher quality without the smearing, I have offered it to the team to use if they want to clean up their version.

And we have accepted. Thanks Poita!

It seems like further scanning may not be needed.

I already footed the bill for the LPP to be scanned recently, and that scan doesn’t have the smearing issue.

It’s definitely there- a quick ab usenet star wars search (or just go to the group) will find appropriate links… just remember that the file requires the appropriate password in order to complete, so make sure you plug that in to your SAB/NZBGet type program… It was posed on 1/17, if that helps…

Is there still a plan to get the blu-ray iso up on MySpleen? Thanks again for your work!

Yes, that is still the plan, but we are still re-working a few shots and then there is the GOUT Syncing, re-encoding and blu-ray authoring to do, so it is still at least a few weeks away, possibly longer.

Is this the thread for the Silver Screen ed? Hope so. Just finished watching it. Looked awesome. Noticed a lot of new detail. Laughed at 3PO when he’s sitting on the speeder coming into Mos Eisley. His hips look like golden tin foil. Guess he wasn’t designed to be sitting down 😄

Huge thanks to Team Negative 1 for all their efforts.

The C-3PO suit must have been very uncomfortable since it was an exoskeleton. This is the forum for the Silver Screen Edition. I’m relatively new around here but so far this has been my go to website since Christmas. Refer to the first post for more information if you are interested.

Great. 😃

What about audio tracks, texts and subtitles from foreign versions of Star Wars? I recall that a Spanish 35mm print was used for this project. I also remember Laserschwert mentioning that he’s using footage of German prints for his German Despecialised Edition. Would you include those on the SSE Blu-ray using seamless branching if the owners of these prints allow that and if there’s enough space to burn it on a 25GB Blu-ray?
