Harmy's STAR WARS Despecialized Edition HD - V2.7 - MKV (Released) — Page 584

I’m a child of the 80’s/90’s, and while I agree that “Episode IV: A New Hope” is how I was introduced to “Star Wars” and how I experienced it until 2006, I’ve really grown to like, and prefer, the purity of the original theatrical crawl. Knowing now that my nostalgia for it was the product of some of the earliest tinkering on the film and an early precursor to the SE changes, now just pisses me off when I remember back on it. I’ve taken to referring to the film just as “Star Wars”, and educating people on the non-existence of “Episode IV: A New Hope” when they perpetuate the misconception.

I can see wanting to have it available, it really is a part of the film’s history, even though it is more than just a subtitle, but the reworking of the arrangement of all the following text and it also messes up music cues during the sequence. It would be good to have it available, even though I don’t think I’ll be going back to it, as it’ll just irk me anymore.

Also, I’m pretty sure Harmy said he’s okay with someone doing it, he just doesn’t intend to do it himself.

Ill redownload Despecialized edition, hopefully Sony Vegas or Adobe Premiere will like it and I will try to make it as best as possible. But it won’t be in any foreseeable future, so if anyone wants to do it other than me, go ahead.

The 1985 ANH is how I grew up with it (born in 1980 but didn’t see any of the movies until 1993). These days, though, I watch the 1977 version with the mono mix (as I have since slightly before the GOUT came out).

Perhaps another option would be to open those DTS hd ma tracks in audacity and save them as LPCM?

Bingo. This is exactly what I would do. No loss in quality, more universal support.

As a matter of fact, that’s exactly what I did to make the lossless files playable on my Apple TV. I demuxed the DTS, opened in Audacity, converted to PCM. Then I compressed to Apple Lossless to save more space and muxed them back into an MP4 container.

Audacity supports DTS-MA? I thought it just extracted the lossy core…

I think it does just the core file, as well.

I just heard from the guy working on it for me after a not having heard from him for a while and he says it’s almost done but can’t guarantee it will be out for x-mas.

Blu-ray update, since it came up:

While I tried real damn hard to get a Blu-ray ready in time for Christmas, it looks like that’s not gonna pan out (I underestimated just how long it would take to get all the menus set up; since it all has to be done from scratch in Photoshop that means having to make all 3 states for every single button (normal, selected, activated), including all 48 chapter point buttons (I used all the same chapters from the 2004 DVD release apart from the two scenes that don’t exist in this version. Some may say that’s too many chapters, I say too bad because I did it anyway))

Because I intended this to be a Christmas gift, I’ve been working on an English-only version first. Since I STILL intend for these to be gifts (I’ll just have to mail them), I’ll be finishing that up first, and then focusing on the full/international version after that, since that’ll take some tinkering to get as many audio/subtitle tracks to fit as it’ll let me.

I’ll be getting back home late at night on the 26th and will resume Blu-ray work the next morning. I don’t want to say that I’d GUARANTEE that the English-only version will be up on the Spleen by the end of the month but I’m pretty confident in it.

Just curious, any updates on this?

Anyone remember different camera angles from ROTJ?

Hey everyone! New to the boards. I received the Harmy versions from a good friend and needless to say am blown away by how gorgeous they all are. They play smoothly on my Mac with VLC, but the playback is slightly choppy through Apple TV (3). It’s so subtle, but I can’t help be distracted by it. Xfinity recently upgraded me to an 802.11ac modem and speed tests show my speeds are exceptional. Anyone have any idea how to fix this minor but oh so major issue?

I also have an Apple TV 3 and it plays fine for me. Are you trying to mirror your whole screen? If so, that’s probably the problem. That nearly always is choppy for me when I try to play video. What you’ll need to do is remux the video from the MKV into an MP4 container, open it in iTunes/QuickTime, and airplay the video directly to the Apple TV. (Alternatively you can add them to your iTunes library and activate home sharing, which allows you to access all your movies directly from your Apple TV.) To remux, you can download this simple app:

http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/35968/remux

Note that Apple TV will not play DTS, so (assuming you have 2.5), you’ll have to convert the surround track to AC3 and the stereo/mono tracks to ALAC or AAC/AC3 when remuxing. That option is easy to choose in the app (which is based on ffmpeg so it supports lossless DTS decoding).

If you have already done this and are not mirroring your whole screen, sorry but I’m afraid I don’t know what the problem is.

If you do think it’s something to do with the files and can’t figure it out, then PM me and I can see if I can find a way to get you some ready-to-go MP4 files that already have everything properly muxed and converted, and even tagged, for ATV.

What are the steps to burning a BDMV file to a Blu-Ray disc on Toast without losing anything?

I’ve had good luck following the instructions mentioned here: http://forums.support.roxio.com/topic/90622-create-disc-image-using-bdmv-folder-avchd/ . While the steps are actually for creating a Disc Image, just pick BD as your medium and click Burn instead.

Hope that helps. 😃

So I work at a church that meets in a 1800 seat performance theatre here in Vancouver, Canada. Having access to a MASSIVE screen, a HD projector, and a Dolby Surround has it’s benefits… Screening SW Despecialized here with a few buddies tonight.

Link to pic is below. The screen is washed out cuz I brought up the house lights to show a bit of the size of the theatre. For scale, those line-array speakers hanging on each side are 8 feet tall. Pumped for this.

Thank you Harmy and all of the many people who put in so much time and effort so we can enjoy this!!

Damn, that’s impressive. How’s 720p do at that size?

It actually looks really great! Obviously if you’re right up close to it you lose some of the quality… we going to be sitting about 15 rows back. Screen still looks theatre-sized from there and the quality still really holds up

What this community has done with the Despecialized Editions is astounding

EDIT: Also wanted to add that right behind the screen is a massive centre speaker/horn. Pretty legit set up

can anyone recommend a free(or not?) program for mac for creating blu ray isos from mkvs, with menus etc? i like a lot of the ones people have posted but i would be interested in taking a crack at it. even if i gotta use templates, i’d be interested in messing around with different backgrounds/music or whatever for the menus

I found this screenshot from the Sculpting a Galaxy DVD recently uploaded to MySpleen, could this be used with animation to clean up the sandcrawler shot?

I don’t think so, the resolution is only 480p

Even so, that is only a small portion of the main image anyway

On another note, HelloGreedo finally did a video on your despecialized editions: https://youtu.be/UPX_ZDy_9Fs

Thankfully most people in the comments seem to have a good understanding of torrents. Hopefully we don’t get a bunch of people clogging up the forum with myspleen requests.
