Thank the Lord! And Team Negative1 for so many years of hard work on this wonderful project. I can hardly hold myself back, but I think I’ll have to wait out the BD ISO release. It’ll be more refined, and I’d probably just delete the first download to save space once it comes out, anyway.

Wow! Looks great! Until I can make a new version of Despecialized (and this will be an invaluable asset in doing that) I would definitely recommend Team Negative 1’s version over Despecialized v2.5.

Good grief, I never thought I’d hear that!

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

Looks like my current next step is to reobtain the mono mix.

will the BD and small mkv version have other improvements compared to the current v1? or why would they be named v1.5?

I wanted to repeat my comment from myspleen:

WOW! What a milestone release!!

Thank you so much about this to everyone involved!
Your dedication to this project was unparallel!

I have one question though:
The 5.1 audio in Harmy’s release was coming from the 70mm 6-track audio, right?
Could that audio sync with this release? (i mean if I extract it from that mkv and insert it in this one).
or is it going to be included in the BD version?

edit: Ok, my questions were replied at the comments section of myspleen.
Apparently the 5.1 audio doesn’t sync with this release.

Impressive. Most impressive.

Thanks to all involvements in this project and specially for share it with public.

What about alternate audio track as DTS:X or Dolby Atmos…
I’m curious also what other thinks about it…
Or it’s simply bad idea…

Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundtracks are recorded and mixed differently than conventional surround sound formats. They use a system known as “object-based” surround sound. Sounds move around, coming at you from all directions, not just front and back. You enjoy a more three-dimensional listening experience.

The Force is strong with Team -1.

That’s interesting. We seem to have lost some frames somewhere in the process. I wrote a similar script, syncing the raw scan to the GOUT way back when the project began and the ONLY frames that were missing were at the reel changes (The trims below allow for a little Head/Tail to appear at the reel changes to maintain the sync):

Gout = MPEG2Source("…\STAR_WARS\VIDEO_TS\Gout-NTSC.d2v").ConvertToRGB32().AssumeFPS(23.976).crop(6,102,-2,-104).Lanczos4Resize(848,320).Subtitle(“Gout”, lsp=10, align=3, text_color=$00FFFFFF, size=20.0).showFrameNumber(x=15,y=30)

LPP_R1 = ImageSource("…\Reel1\StarWars.Frame.%08d.exr", 1, 28929, 23.976, true, false, “rgb”).Lanczos4Resize(848,320).showFrameNumber(x=15,y=30).trim(380,28205)

LPP_R2 = ImageSource("…\Reel2\StarWars.Frame.%08d.exr", 28930, 57198, 23.976, true, false, “rgb”).Lanczos4Resize(848,320).showFrameNumber(x=15,y=30,offset=28929).trim(291,28209)

LPP_R3 = ImageSource("…\Reel3\StarWars.Frame.%08d.exr", 57199, 88881, 23.976, true, false, “rgb”).Lanczos4Resize(848,320).showFrameNumber(x=15,y=30,offset=57198).trim(387,31317)

LPP_R4 = ImageSource("…\Reel4\StarWars.Frame.%08d.exr", 88882, 117213, 23.976, true, false, “rgb”).Lanczos4Resize(848,320).FlipHorizontal().showFrameNumber(x=15,y=30,offset=88881).trim(417,27390)

LPP_R5 = ImageSource("…\Reel5\StarWars.Frame.######_%06d.exr", 117214, 148089, 23.976, true, false, “rgb”).Lanczos4Resize(848,320).showFrameNumber(x=15,y=30,offset=117213).trim(374,30774)

LPP_R6 = ImageSource("…\Reel6\StarWars.Frame.%08d.exr", 145546, 173877, 23.976, true, false, “rgb”).Lanczos4Resize(848,320).showFrameNumber(x=15,y=30,offset=145545).trim(369,0)

audio = NicAC3Source("…\STAR_WARS\VIDEO_TS\VTS_03_1 - 0x80 - Audio - AC3 - 2ch - 48kHz - DRC - English - DELAY 0ms.AC3")
video = stackVertical(Gout, LPP)

Thanks for this !!! 😄 Really happy it’s finally here.

One question: Aside from the extra audio tracks, will there be any differences between the MKV and the upcoming ISO? Thanks !

Yes, there will be further cleanup, and possibly a minor color correction on a scene or two.

Team Negative1

If there’s going to be further color correction, I’d suggest working on the scene in Ben’s hut. The colors are all over the place. Some shots look relatively good, but in others, the faces are practically purple.

I agree. It seems that some of the low-lighting interior scenes look a bit off, as if some red fade is still apparent. The scene where they meet Han is similar, as well as the first scene in the garage with the droids/leia hologram (to a lesser extent).

Thank you, I just wanted to ask how to apply a german GOUT audio track to it. 😃

But how can I do this exactly? What tools do I need, is there a how-to anywhere? Avisynth / VirtualDub with the MKV as video source and the script as input…? Sorry for the noob questions, but I really want to learn and to understand. Maybe someone of the pros here can help me out.

@TeamNegative1
I finished watching it and it was outstanding! Great job, thank you so much for it!!

I’m perplexed. Why is the release in dozens of files, cryptically hard to find, most of the threads devoid of links, hosted on a random site, requiring a questionable downloader, and maybe a password?

I’m very excited about this. I want to enjoy the result of all the hard work it must have required to produce this restoration.

Seems like many are frustrated, including me obviously. How about a single MKV download / torrent file for those who are not experts?

I have no idea what you’re talking about. Jdownloader is not ‘questionable’ if that’s what you’re talking about. If the multiple files you are talking about are rars (I’m not sure if it’s in that format yet?), that is a standard format for large downloads. If downloading by http, you do not want a 24gb file to crap out on you, and rars have the benefit of letting you know if something was corrupted.

It seems like it’s mostly you. But your post will probably be the first of many, so I’m sure you’re right. If you’re not a member on the torrent site it’s on, where it’s a single MKV, then maybe you could try waiting even 24 hours or beyond for it to inevitably be posted to one of the sites you use.

We also do not post links here, because we are happy to not be shut down. These things are mildly tricky to distribute, because they are not what you would call perfectly legal. I’m sure we would all love to have a simple link to give you, or a youtube stream. It is not that straightforward for obvious reasons.

The movie itself is a 21Gb .mkv file.

another user expressed that they’re “Having huge problems playing this due to the framerate being oddly set at 23.8fps instead of 23.976, which is the standard.”

can someone with the file confirm/deny this info with a MediaInfo log?

mine says 23.976 fps

Sounds reasonable. I obviously am not a member of the torrent site you mention, not have I encountered a name of that site. The frustration mentioned is not expressed on this board, both the logistical challenges of acquiring the files and the concerns about jdownloader (valid or not). I’ll be patient and hopefully await a public torrent. The legal overtones are also understood. Thanks.

When I indexed it with dgavcindex it reported 25fps when honoring pulldown flags and also when set to force film. Vlc reports 23.809523. Something definitely awry, but it plays fine for me.
