Yeah well, these are all issues I’ll deal with when I come to them, but there you guys have an idea of my plans for empire and Jedi.

That would be especially tricky for ANH as, if I’m not mistaken, no one has gotten seamless branching working. The 77 and 81 crawls are going to need to be separate encodes of the film, likely requiring a BD50 for that reason alone.

Yes. There has been some good discussion on the subject here (more than I can find anywhere online), but no success.

The professional software is extremely poorly documented. And there’s nowhere you can turn to online for help, of course. There have been some interesting or promising theories on what to do in BDedit, just nothing that has worked as of yet.

Yep. It’s certainly doable on DVD, just not blu-ray.

Yes, we’ve done that. If it wasn’t in this thread, I’m not sure where (this may have started as a tangent in Harmy’s before Darth Lucas started his own).

It’s the same thing, as far as I can tell.

At any rate, if I were to put the special features on the same disc as a movie, I would spread them across all discs. So the special features that pertain to the theatrical version (such as the 1977 ‘Making of Star Wars’ documentary) would go on disc 1, the features that pertain specifically to the special edition (such as “anatomy of a dewback”) would go on disc 2, and so on and so forth.

I’m not doing that, since I think it’s a lot simpler and cleaner to have all the special features together on their own disc, but if I were to do that, that’s what I’d do.

So Team Negative1 just released their v1. I’m currently downloading and haven’t yet watched it, but the response so far has been good. So this puts me in a place I didn’t think I’d be in for a while. Should I forego my work with Harmy’s Despecialized and make Team-1’s work the basis of this project? Aside from color, which can be changed if need be, do you think the quality of work is up to the same level as Harmy’s?

I know people were excited for my CC of Harmy’s, but in the end what I’m striving for is the best presentation of the film, and if that is now Team Negative1’s work, then I’ll be happy to swap them out.

All of this is of course provided Team-1 wouldn’t have a problem with me using it as my source.

Well I guess there’s one opinion.

It has the benefit of being more consistent and having fairly natural color. But I think it would strongly stand apart from every other thing in your set. It’s a very different kind of experience.

I finally finished downloading and had a quick scan through of it. While some of it I think is clean enough to be comparable to DeEd, other parts are still quite distractingly degraded. I think what I may end up doing is creating a kind of hybrid between Despecialized and TN1’s. Using -1 in place of GOUT upscale shots, scenes where the color grading is too extreme to be effectively corrected, and for color reference throughout.

I’ve done a couple tests like that (actually replacing all of the mos eisley entry scene). It works okay and some shots end up improved, but it’s very noticeably a different source and look from the rest of the film. I would not consider inserting quick shots from TN1 for the sake of color.

I would use TN1 as a color ref or even with Dre’s tool.

I will not purely for the sake of color unless the color is unsalvagable in Harmy’s version and there is no other source. I have yet to come across a shot like this but who knows.
I will, however insert quick shots for the sake of quality and resolution, most notable during the battle of Yavin sequence where most of the space shots in TN1’s are very clean and where the jump in quality between blu Ray and gout upscales are most noticeable in Harmy’s imo. I will only do this if the shot has little to no noticeable damage on TN1’s and if the increased resolution and clarity is noticeable and improves the experience. And of course it will be color corrected to match.

I would recommend some of the more noticeable shots than the battle. Most of those are honestly great, despite being GOUT upscales. I think what needs it the most would be the sand crawler coming over the dune, the exterior shot of the cantina, and the detention block extension.
