Just got through watching a bit of the special. The quality of this copy truly is remarkable. The image is much brighter than other recordings without any crushed blacks. This creates such a high level of detail. Thank you to everyone who made this possible.
Okay I know it has been a while since I posted here and that is because I had a complete mental breakdown, but I am better now, I am seeing a skrink and I am on good meds. I only mention this because I feel like I missed something big while I was away. First the forum has completely changed and second there seems to be some sort of fan restoration of the Holiday special that looks amazing when compared to the old VHS to DvD transfer I have been using. I spotted this when I watched JonTron’s latest episode of Starcade and his copy of the Holiday special just blew me away.
I want to say great job to whoever did this. I just have two quick questions and I know they both must seem stupid but I am way out of the loop here.
1)What is the name of this restoration? I would like to search for it on Myslpeen or elsewhere. Opps, never mind I just found it. Sorry.
2)Does it sync up with the Rifftrax? That isn’t a deal breaker for me but it would great if it did since watching this special with the rifftrax has become a Christmas tradition in my house.
Sorry if these questions are stupid but my internet still goes in and out in a way that makes searching every page of this thread really hard.

Yeah, I did sorry. I went through the steps to get my old password emailed to me but it never showed up, so I used the backup email address I keep to avoid spam to create a new account. I couldn’t think of anything else to do.
I figured my old log in info had just been deleted after so many months because of space issues or something, so you can go ahead and delete the old account. Sorry for the confusion.

Yep, same email address I always used. Luckily I already had a backup email address so it wasn’t a big deal and I am back now, so no harm done.

Is the EditDroid version 60i? Or is it deinterlaced?
I like to be able to watch stuff taped in interlaced NTSC at its actual frame rate or upscaled to 60p, rather than cut down to 30p, so I’m just curious.

Well if actual framerate is what you’re after, then it will deliver:
Image Size: 720 x 480
Frame Rate: 29.97 interlaced
The only SWHS DVD release I’ve seen that’s 30p was mine. I’m not sure why I made that decision at the time. It was kind of a rushed project.

I watched a few minutes last night and was amazed at the quality. I would love to hear the story of how this master tape was unearthed. The picture and sound are truly lightyears ahead of anything I’d previously seen. Now, I have mixed emotions as I’m faced with the dreadful prospect that I have to watch the Holiday Special again.
