Desplat is quite versatile so while he can do Williams’s style (as in the last two Potter films) he can also do otherwise. I’m sort of hoping for a classical score but with a very different tone than we’re used to from Star Wars (darker, grittier, more militaristic). In terms of old themes returning, I’d LOVE to hear the old Imperial Motif again (from 77) and the Death Star motif, and of course a healthy dose of the Rebel fanfare. I don’t think we need to hear the Imperial March but I’m sure we will. Any other themes should be off limits (except maybe the main title).

I don’t think there should be a crawl, at least not like the one we’re used to. That should be reserved for the Episodes. “A long time ago, in a galaxy, far, far away” should be required for every Star Wars film, however.

I’ve seen three Star Wars films without Williams. Two with no crawl.

Man, it would be killer to have had Mark Griskey done the music.

Give this a listen…

I wish Brad Fiedel still worked in the movie industry. I’d be very interested in seeing how he’d score a SW film.

Oh man, bringing back the Imperial motif never even occurred to me. It seems like ever since Williams penned the March everyone’s forgotten about it. Now I’m really hoping that happens.

This Desplat Harry Potter track actually reminds me of “Attack on Jakku” from the TFA score more than anything else. I’m a huge defender of the TFA score, but I’d hoped going to someone other than Williams for the Anthology films would mean more of a departure from the norm. Ah, well. I have a hard time complaining about such convincing Williams-esque music.

Side note, I’d like to see whoever scored the Neil Degrasse-Tyson Cosmos get a crack at Star Wars. That was some of the best fake Williams I’ve ever heard, with a dash of Horner-era Trek.

Nobody has ever seen a Star Wars movie without a John Williams score so I guess this is a first for us all! We’ll have to wait an see. No doubt opinions will be mixed.

I for one can’t imagine it ‘feeling like star wars’ without the music, but I’m game to give it a go.

cough cough

Does that not feature the theme? (I haven’t seen it),

Caravan of Courage on the other hand… I forgot about that!

Which ones? I’m not really familiar with anything outside of the main saga.

Another thought: what happened to the CGI Tarkin rumours? Do we know if that’s happening?

I wouldn’t mind Daine Jir, Motti, or Tagge being recasted, but I’m not sure how I’d feel about cgi Tarkin.

It does, but the arrangement of it, and the score in general were one thing negative reviews of the TCW movie seemed to harp on.

(and Clone Wars which doesn’t deserve a poster)

And I still have no idea who the Han Solo looking guy is, or where he appears in the movie. I’m surprised there isn’t a really misleading foreign poster with a buff Wicket carrying an older Cindel off in his arms! 😉

Given that the first ten minutes are about as cheery as Alien 3, I’m amazed little kids could get in to see the movie overseas.

It’s a bit of a mess to be fair. If you’re going to use the theme, just use it, don’t mess it up.

I guess it’s supposed to sound more ‘military’.

I’ve never seen this… not sure if I can handle it now. Looks weird.

Nah, it’s fun in it’s own twisted way. It’s as dark as Lucas gets before ROTS, and possibly has the first depiction of domestic partners in the SW universe. 😉

I think maybe it’s supposed to be Cindel’s dad. That or they caught Wilford on a good day. 😉

The domestic poster is more accurate in its depiction of the film, though a bit dull:

I really want all the main characters to die, and the film to end right where Star Wars begins. Like maybe end on Vader ordering the Executor to fire on the Tantive IV.

Not enough people read the EU.

I’d love to see some of the Imperial officers from the beginning of Star Wars.

I’d have to agree there. Makes their sacrifice matter, plus then you don’t have to explain why none of these new/old characters aren’t in the OT.

Would love for Vader to look exactly like in ANH, from the red eyes to the chestplate.

This is awesome. I really hope they put the effort into nailing the asymmetrical helmet.

EDIT: just saw the previous comment. This seems like a good sign.

Also, this recent rash of celebrity deaths has me wondering who could step in to voice Vader should anything happen to JEJ (he is in his eighties, after all). Keith David, perhaps?

A few vague, but interesting, details mentioned here;
http://www.starwarsnewsnet.com/2016/01/rumor-new-details-on-rogue-one-from-joblo.html

The one of the left might have something to do with the rumour of there being stormtroopers in black armour appearing in the film.
(The article also mentioned some new Tie-fighter designs, which I found kind of weird since this takes place shortly before ANH.)
