I’d like to comment on Anchorhead’s points because it’s a fun little brain teaser to figure these kind of “plot holes”.

- An escape pod the size of an SUV falls to a planet, sometime later the Empire decides to go look for it, and within minutes the stormtroopers are standing next to it? Weak.
The size is small, if there would be an escape pod sized thing falling to Earth I think there are measures to track it’s landing site. I’m sure Empire has the measures. Also it could have tracking in the blockade runner, or it could send some kind of distress signal.

- The pod lands very near Luke’s house and he just happens to buy the droid that was inside? Later it ends up at Ben’s, who also just happens to have the lightsaber the totally random farm boy’s dad used to own? Contrived.
Not sure how near it lands, the droids could’ve travelled a few weeks in the desert. That may still be close, but R2 could’ve piloted it close to Ben if he had some info about his whereabouts. At least they didn’t land on Ben’s backyard. And Luke isn’t random to Ben because Ben more or less is close to Luke because of the connection.

- The Death Star - constructed specifically to blow-up planets - has to go around a planet before it can…blow up a different planet? WTF?
Most likely the weapon takes time to power up. It is only 30 minutes to go around and the Empire wasn’t in a hurry because they thought the rebels would be no match. What’s a half an hour when you’re sitting on a Death Star? That’s the irony.

- The Death Star is the size of a moon, yet our heroes seem to be able to walk everywhere they need to be in what appears to be just a few minutes. Unrealistic.
Turbolifts. Also it isn’t stated it takes minutes, they probably spent a couple of hours there, but it would be a boring movie if they showed 2 hours of them walking in corridors and standing in lifts. They probably used R2 to know their way and get around. There must’ve been some info posts there or something, I don’t think every Imperial knows where to go in a station full of gray corridors.

- A small exhaust port on a moon-sized space station can lead the entire station disintegrating? Contrived.
Maybe. But if there is a reactor or something that has exhaust then there would have to be some sort of port to get it out. The shaft was also shielded so it did have protection. I don’t know what kind of reactor there was so hard to say if the blow up was “realistic”.
