Why has the line “Close the blast doors!” been cut from the scene where the storm troopers are chasing Han and Chewie? I believe the line was in the theatrical version and was only cut from the original VHS release.

Ask Google (or StartPage): site:originaltrilogy.com "blast doors"

See this post:

Tried Googling, but didn’t think to use the “site” search operator. Thanks.

Hello everybody! I’m new to this site and I’ve just found out about the amazing job Harmy did with the Despecialized Edition. Unfortunately I don’t have a blueray reader but I’d like to have the three movies on “physical” dvds. Is there any way I can download the DVD5 version now that MySpleen closed invitations? Thanks for your help!

Plus, it’s one of my favorite lines in the movie. 😛

Wrong thread, really. Star Wars premiered with three distinct audio mixes, depending on where you saw it. Two audio mixes did not have “Close the blast doors!” and one did. Harmy chose the 1977 six-channel theatrical mix as the default track because (more or less) it sounds great and is authentic too. The 1977 mono mix, the one with the line you like, is another favorite around here, and it’s available as an alternate track. VHS never had the 1977 mono mix, but in 1985, they created yet another stereo mix which tried to merge the elements of the theatrical mono and multichannel mixes, and used that for home video (prior to 1985, the home video mix was the 1977 stereo mix). And then they had another go at it and made a fifth distinct audio mix in 1993, this time incorporating entirely non-theatrical elements. Star Wars was a mess of versions long before 1997, and that’s not even including the fact that they changed the name of the film itself in 1981…

Thanks for pointing out it is in the alternate track. I wouldn’t have otherwise noticed that.

Sorry for the noob queston but… I’m not familiar with these kind of downloads. Is there no way to easily acquire the films without the use of jdownloader?

I created a account over on tehPARADOX to see the thread they have about Harmy’s stuff, but there’s a lot of terminology I’m not familiar with. Things like ULOZ or NFO. I am familiar with MEGA, but… those links give me a “The file you are trying to download is no longer available” message. Is there an up-to-date place where the movies can be downloaded?

EDIT: I found my way to MySpleen, and it turns out that they stopped giving out invites because of the flood of people (like myself) who were looking for ways of downloading the films. Is there another site that has ways of getting into the private tracker? I have decent internet, if that helps (meaning I could seed).

The sound mixes are accurate.

If you select the mono mix, the line will be present. It was absent in the theatrical stereo release.

edit: oops. Not sure why that seemed to be the most recent post to me. edit: ah, wrong page.

Question for anyone that might know. I’m an Mac and would like to take the full .mkv file and do two things

  1. Prepare the 19 GB .mkv file for burning on a Blu-ray disc.
  2. Take the 19 GB .mkv file and shrink it down to around 6-7 GB and as an .m4v.

Any recommendations for this?

Hey guys, I’ve just recently downloaded the AVCHD of SW and TESB, the .iso versions, but I’m having issues trying to burn them to a DVD+R DL on my Macbook. Trying to use Disc Utility, that’s a non-starter…it errors before I even start.

I’m presume the majority of users here are Windows, but if there are any Mac users on here that have had success burning these please relay your process to me.

Thanks in advance.

I had no issue at all using Disk Utility for the AVCHDs, but I made my own ISOs from the BDMV folders by running imgburn with a wineskin (I couldn’t burn straight from imgburn because it couldn’t find my disc drive). I wasn’t aware there were premade ISOs out there. Maybe there’s something wrong with those particular files? If not, I’ve got nothing.

FYI, I found what worked for me. I don’t want to sound like I’m plugging them, I’m not. It’s free to use this software as a burner, AFAIK. Mac The Ripper allowed me to successfully burn AVCHD DVD-9 file.

Thanks all.

More praise for Despecialized! Glad to see the word getting out before TFA.

Big time love for this site and Harmy and all involved with working on these restorations. Jeremy Jahns has a massive Youtube following.

Hey, the bright side is that someone might finally tell us how to use Markdown.

I’m pretty sure I just markdowned.

LOL I learned how to do it in about a day. Compared to video editing, Markdown’s a cinch! … Or am I just suffering from Markdown syndrome?

Thinking the unthinkable indeed.

Make sure you get the ones who are saying that Star Wars was SD 4:3 in theaters and therefore and HD release is unnatural.

Whoosh! Sorry, the joke was that people new to navigating our large forum often end up posting the Markdown tutorial text, often several times, before they finally understand that you need to scroll around a lot to see what you’re doing here, or give up.

Wait…seriously? There are people who genuinely believe that?

The lack of any newly remastered version of Star Wars for twenty years and three generations of home video formats has led to some odd thinking about the films among the public. Many people have quite simply never seen the films at all – they just watch the Special Editions and hear stories from old people at the nursing home about how much better Star Wars was when they were a kid, like everything else, and they don’t believe it. “No thanks, Grandma, we don’t need to hook up your VCR for this right now, I believe you” (rolls eyes).

Someone here ran into a store clerk who must have misheard that there were a few barely-noticeable moments where the lightsaber effects hadn’t been placed over the props the actors held, so he thought that ALL of the lightsabers just looked like cardboard props for the entire film in 1977, until Lucas came along and finally made them glow twenty years later. When people can’t easily verify if some crazy statement is true or not (aside from people who are already Star Wars fans, who even owns a VCR anymore?), all sorts of strange and fantastically wrong ideas grow and spread. That’s the most insidious part of suppressing these films for an entire generation.

EDIT: Found the link to the clerk story – http://originaltrilogy.com/post/id/592462

I think it could also be taken that he thought the guy wanted like a workprint of the films from before they were originally released. But even still, it does show a surprising amount of ignorance about the Star Wars versions (particularly not being aware of the obvious SE transition), especially if he worked in a freaking entertainment store.

Hi. Is there a download link for the Despecialized versions? I’m interested in those in great quality if available.

Thanks.
