So I know I’m old and the whole Internet thing baffles and frightens me, but am I the only one who doesn’t see any sign up link in, under, or near the YouTube video?

Found the sign-up link. In case anyone else is wondering, you need to go to the Despecialized Facebook page, and it’s there.

That’s ok Frink, bring as many younglings as you want. We have Darth Vader.

You need to click SHOW MORE under the description.

Ah, I see now that you say you didn’t plan on doing a public workprint because you didn’t have material to fix the eyebrows, yet. Makes sense, as they were the most criticized part of 1.0. But they look great, now!

Is there any change to the plan of only doing 720p? Even if the last few GOUT sources are replaced? I know this has been brought up multiple times. But, clearly things change, such as the ability to see a new version(ish) before TFA changed. 😃

No, I want to keep it consistent with the other versions, so all versions up to 2.5 will remain 720p.

But if the prequels taught me anything, other than to hate myself for watching them, it’s that Darth Vader is a kid killer.

Oops, didn’t see Catbus’s earlier comment. That makes my response sound a bit dickish.

This is gonna be AWESOME! Signed up right away.
Thanks Harmy, you do great work, and we all appreciate it a lot. All of these updates on ROTJ are just making me think about how much more awesome it’s gonna be when the V3.0 trilogy is finally finished in 1080p.
God bless you, Harmy, and have a wonderful Christmas!

So is this going to get a special version number, like 1.7 or something? I just think it sounds cooler than 2.0 workprint 😃. Anyway, what all is being done for this workprint? Is anything from the SE remaining? Is there any residual GOUT residue?

Maybe he should keep quiet about specifically what’s imperfect until slightly after release to test if we can honestly notice?

YouTube comment of his says there are a couple gout instances remaining, though.

Work prints for previous releases were not numbered. I guess it depends how finished it is. Might have no need to linger on spleen as 1.7 once 2.0 is out.

Yeah - it will be just a workprint for the simple reason that A) I just don’t have the time to watch it and properly check it for bugs until my own pre-TFA marathon. And B) I don’t have the time to put together a complete release with both AVCHD and MKV encodes and all the subtitile and audio tracks, so I only plan to encode it as like 4GB file with only one audio track and a text at the start saying it’s a wokprint version. There will be no watermark throughout the whole movie, except maybe a tiny timecode running in the corner of one of the black bars.

Harmy, you’re getting good at the YouTube videos.

Is there anything you CAN’T do?

Which audio track will that be? The 5.1?

Yeah. I’ll use hh’s 5.1 audio, becuase it downmixes pretty well on stereo equipment, so people with both stereo and surround setups can enjoy it. Have there been any updated versions since the release of v1.0? And also, wasn’t there a version that syncs better with v1.0’s PAL-GOUT based sync? I’ve based the cut of this version on v1.0.

Great news. Will it be possible to add other audio mixes from ROTJ 1.0 if one wants to have a Marathon with dubbed versions?

The one big question I have is how long have you been working on this version, Harmy? Have you been toiling away for a while in secret, or have you streamlined the process (and perhaps lightened the overall load through your improved sources) to the point that you are able to put out this workprint v2.0 in very short order?

The OCD in me can’t wait to see the updated front post with all the information about the sources and audio.

HH hasn’t done a new version, but Catbus resyned the 5.1 to the PAL version of Jedi.

AFAIK 1.0 was his most recent version, and it’s synced to NTSC frames (doesn’t sync with ROTJ DE 1.0 well). If your new cut is based on NTSC frames, it will sync better using the same audio as 1.0. Otherwise I made one synced to PAL frames, but I really recommend going NTSC for your frames this time. PM me if you need anything.

This thread should contain the info you need to make a PAL-based project sync to NTSC GOUT (by trimming and adding/duplicating frames):

http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/The-GOUT-Sync-Thread/id/17357

Also, I swear that you, Team Blu, and hairy_hen had already decided to standardize on NTSC GOUT in all new releases to avoid problems, because when that happened I went through all my audio and subtitle resources and switched them to NTSC. Ergh, please not again…
