Harmy's RETURN OF THE JEDI Despecialized Edition HD - V3.1 — Page 56

I don’t think there is one for Jedi because it’s already able to fit on a DVD.

Not on a DVD-5. There is a separate MPEG2 based DVD5 upload.

With all due respect to the person who made and uploaded that DVD5, I would recommend that if someone really wants a DVD copy, they encode their own. There are some serious quality problems with that one (but SW and ESB DVD5s look great!).

That’s actually quite comforting. I found a 20-pack of DVD9s for a good price yesterday, so I just went with them. I’m gonna attempt to just get the AVCHDs on there. At the moment, I’m making the menu interface in Sony DVD Architect. I ripped all of the menus from the 2004 DVDs and I’m implementing them for my Harmy collection! Has anyone done that yet? Am I late to the party? Well anyway, I felt simply drag-and-dropping the films to a blank disc was too bland for me. My OCD won’t allow it. So I thought this would be fun! ^__^

I’ve found various versions of DeEd ROTJ v1.0 on my harddisk. I’m trying to stay up-to-date with Harmys releases but somehow I’ve messed up.
Are there md5 hashes for the mkv-file? That would help me identify the correct one…

v1.0 was first released as UDF image (.ISO file)
then later re-released as BDMV folder.
The big .m2ts file is identical in both releases.
See Post 923, Post 753

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

I’m a bit confused by this as well. I have attempted the Harmy ROTJ download 3 times. Twice on tehparadox and once via torrent.

I’m a terribly novice at this, so please forgive my ignorance. I’d like to be sure I have the most appropriate file. And determine whether I’ve a case of corrupt/incomplete downloads or a case of idiocy.

The first is displaying as:
BDMV
Kind: AVCHD Collection
Sixe: 7,340,025,444 bytes (7.34 GB on disk)

I cannot play this with the VLC player but have not attempted yet to burn it. (I have been able to play SW and ESB in the VLC player. For those, the AVCHD folder has both a BDMV file and a Certificate file, and I was able to load the entire folder to play.)

The second attempt displays as:
00000.m2ts
Kind: MPEG-2 Stream
Size: 6,991,685,948 bytes (6.99 GB on disk)

I cannot play this either, and it renders the VLC player unresponsive.

The final is an .mkv download via torrent:
Kind: Matroska Video File
Size: 7,238,553,785 bytes (7.24 GB on disk)

This one plays easily on a variety of applications. I’m just not sure if this version is verifiable as the the file I want (or if my limited understanding makes it irrelevant anyway). Do I perhaps have two HD and one SD at this point?

Very sorry, as I’m sure these endless download questions must be tiring. If anyone is inclined too offer feedback, I’d be grateful.

Try CCCP instead of VLC. If that doesn’t work, create an ISO in ImgBurn and then create an MKV file from that ISO in mkvmerge.

the m2ts certainly has always worked in VLC for me. Though VLC always shows them with screwed up video for the first two seconds.

Thanks, both.

I should have mentioned I’m on a Mac, so I think some of those options are out for me. Handbrake isn’t recognizing the m2ts file for conversion either (and I think it should) so I’m wondering if something is wrong with the file. I’m unopposed to trying it a 4th time and/or leaving it alone with the .mkv I have for now, until there is a v2.0. I don’t actually know that there is anything problematic about the .mkv as far as quality, only that I’m having a far different process than what I experienced with SW and ESB.

The three you’ve listed are each considerably smaller than the one Harmy shared.

I strongly recommend the use of MPC-HC over VLC for all forms of video playback, and using a GPU-assisted renderer like mad-vr along with it is not a bad idea either.

I think that won’t work, at least for me, as I’m on a mac. But I am happy to report that apparently 4th time’s the charm. My latest despecialized ROTJ attempt is both the correct size and playable. The extracting process functioned as with SW and ESB, and loaded into VLC that way with no issue. Thanks for all the feedback.

I’ve been living under a rock until recently and heard about these Despecialized Editions through a friend. We watched ANH and ESB with my family last weekend and oh boy… even my father felt more comfortable than ever with all the shoddy CGI creatures / changes gone. Thank you so much for all the hard work that goes into bringing back the nostalgia.

Is there a ROTJ 1.5 or 2.0 possibly coming within the next two weeks? Well, doesn’t really matter… we will enjoy the DE that is available before going to see The Force Awakens.

Nope. It’ll be a while.

First off, just want to thank Harmy for these AMAZING versions. Always cringed at the CGI additions.

Secondly, anybody know where to find the original ROTJ file? I only have access to the 7GB ones.

Thanks!

I’m fairly sure that the DVD-5 of RotJ that is floating around is one that somebody ran through DVD Shrink, because my conversion used the same method as SW and ESB. It didn’t have a menu. I don’t think it even had hairy_hen’s 5.1 on it. As Darth Mallwalker will you tell you, I’m terrible at keeping copies of my DVD conversions, so I can’t check the disc, but my conversion wouldn’t have looked terrible.

Harmy had better hurry up with the next version so I can make a better conversion available. 😃

That makes sense! I had seen the low quality menu version attributed to you before, I think. Perhaps because it’s the only one on spleen.

I am having vision problems and this tiny phone screen ain’t helping, so please bear with me…

Can the person(s) that are making boxsets, covers, and labels for the DE contact me? Or perhaps there is a thread I didn’t see? Please let me know.

It’s really sad when the “creative minds” behind something we hold dear are also guilty of its destruction.

PM’d you the link to one I finally got to work for me that’s the size Darth Mallwalker referenced.

PM me the link, as well, you will…? 😃 Mine is 7.4GB, for some reason.

Thanks! Wonder why it’s so small compared to the first two.

Yeah, someone has remuxed the 7.87GB AVCHD / ISO file into a 7.42GB MKV. Not sure how much quality loss is in 400 megabytes?
