Cinema came way before television, so screens were big before they were small <span style=“line-height: 14.3999996185303px;”>and the content on them was crisp and detailed before it was</span> low-res and blurry. And we’re just getting closer to having the same thing at home. At least that’s my personal point of view.

It’s actually starting to tip the other way in many cases you have a better picture at home than in the cinema.

The new Laser projectors will sort that out soon enough so it will be on Par with what you have at home probably not better but it will be a good match.

Where did you dig up that old fossil? 😉

Anyway, I agree with you - with 4K, we are now technically able to see more detail at home than in cinemas but for movies scanned from 35mm, we’re still seeing just the amount of detail that 35mm can capture. It’s a bit different with movies shot digitally but that’s just technology moving forward I guess 😃

I’ve never felt that the colors needed to get better and I’ve seen HDR TVs and wasn’t all that impressed - what bugs me in cinemas (and on my home 1080p projector) is that I can still see the projection grid, which is where 4K and above really makes things better, even if you’re only feeding it 2K signal, so I hope these new HDR projectors are also at least 4K.

What’s interesting is that my 1080p projector (with 10ft wide projection screen viewed from about 10ft distance) is actually much more forgiving of image flaws such as noise or compression than my 58" 4K TV.

In terms of the ANH suit I was talking more along the lines of the ATM cover plastic looking a bit wobbly and the lights not working like they do in the other films. Having the helmet design slightly different and having the robes over the shoulder armour is fine.
The Empire might have spent lots of money on the Death Star but that doesn’t mean they can’t maintain their enforcer’s breathing machine thing.

What are those buttons supposed to do anyway?
Open the sliding door on his barbecue weener?

Well average fans only notice the red Vader eyes because you can actually see Prowse’s eyes through them in a few spots. As long as that’s fixed it shouldn’t be an issue. Most of the time the red lenses are pretty subtle.

Its in the works…:}

The version I got looks like it 480p and has digital fuzz. I used bit torrent 7.8 and I am sure neither DVD-5 or DVD-9 would look as bad as it does. It just doesn’t look crisp you know? Thanks.

Also can it work on a Xbox 360 or Blu-Ray player? As my slim portable DVD player LG may be the problem.

Also well you be changing the voice of the battle droids in the PT?

I think you got the first draft XVID version. The easiest sign would be whose hand is on the Cantina floor.

The DVD-5 and -9 can be played on 360’s and Blu-ray players.

It is the non-human hand. Also whenever I put into to my 360 it just said “Mixed Media Disc”.

Considering this thread is not a support thread we should probably PM this convo btw.

EDIT: Yep got the DVID version oops!

Listening to The Projection Booth’s super-sized episode on Star Wars, and during their interview with ANH Set Decorator Roger Christian, he says “[There were] a lot of discussions over how dark the [Death Star] walls should be. John [Barry, set designer] wanted them really black, but the lighting camera couldn’t cope with it being so dark, so they got stage by stage, they got lighter and lighter so it reached a compromise, in effect.”

Just pointing out that the set designer wanted the Death Star to be black and white.

Thanks for the link to The Projection Booth podacst, hadn’t come across it before.
What a treasure trove of information!

So not to revive an age-old debate, but most new-canon materials including Rebels and Battlefront have been presenting TIE Fighters as gray. I’m wondering, has Ady made a definitive statement as to whether the TIE Fighters ANH:R HD will be blue or gray? I’d personally rather he just leave the colors as they are in each film but I believe a while back he said something about making them uniformly blue in all the films.

Author
Time

I’m not entirely sure but I think Ady has said that the EU/new canon will have no bearing on Revisited, so if his plan was to make all TIEs uniformly blue, he’s most likely gonna stick to that, but take my opinion with a grain of salt, I’d still wait for Ady to make a definitive statement on that.

One sequence which I hope could be augmented would be the Diagnoga scene.
Back when the first revisited was made Ady wasn’t as skilled and the technology to maybe look into the scene wasn’t available for general use if at all.
It played out okay to my 7yr old self back in the seventies but now it’s really obvious (despite Mark’s sterling efforts) that it’s a rubber octopus tentacle and likely the same one that looks crap pulling on Threepio in Jabba’s Palace Cell.
The real problem is the interface between water and the model and any additions that might be made.
It might be possible to film some wormy mini tentacles that come out of where the sucker cones currently are and then join them to the footage, rather than animating them in a computer.
The main problem is when the tentacles get stretch flat against Mark’s chest and look more like a belt than a living creature.
If the tentacles had little millipede like legs they could try to flex and crawl to get a better purchase on Luke and react to being struck and the eventual call to escape.

Seeing as one of the supposed aims of the SEs and a clear aim of the revisited saga is to try and make the PT and OT fit together maybe it would be possible to change the line where Obi-Wan says he had a pupil “named” Darth Vader and just have a pause so it goes :

BEN : Darth Vader, who was a pupil of mine until he turned to evil, helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi …

That way Vader is not necessarily his name but could be the title given to him as seen in the PT. We also don’t know if this is Anakin or another pupil he had before Anakin if his youth at that time isn’t mentioned.

If he is a pupil of Obi-wan it doesn’t need to be said that he is being trained as a Jedi. It’s not like Ben also teaches the oboe 😄

I like that. And also have him say “I” wanted you to have this, when you were old enough. And have Obi Wan call him Vader or Anakin during the duel, instead of Darth.

Author
Time

He would still call him Darth in the duel but now it wouldn’t necessarily be his name. The idea is to still obscure Vader’s identity but tie the fourth episode to the prequels where its a title not a name.

The line as it is doesn’t really bother me in that context. First of all there’s a similar line in the PT “Thousands of senators are under the control of a Sith Lord named Darth Sidious” and also because it’s not really that odd to include a title in a name e.g. the sentence “One of the leaders of the Rebellion is named Admiral Ackbar”

It’s alright for all Lectroids to be named John because that film was a documentary. Star Wars is fantasy.

To: Adywan

I read that no further changes are being accepted for the Episode IV hi-def version. I’m going to report two bugs in ANR:R and, in return, ask that I may propose two changes.

Bug: Spelling error in the credits. “Aditional Optical Effects” is missing a ‘d’.

Bug: The final fanfare merges with new music over the extended / changed credits. The original music is ~1/4-1/2 tone different than the new music. It’s a noticeable discontinuity.

Request: When Luke blasts the control panel to the bridge, there’s nothing behind it! It blows and pops open to reveal a flat panel without wires or electronics. Insert wires or electronic / circuit board.

Request: Stabilize the uppsy-downsy movement of the X-wing fighter(s) on close-ups of the fighter pilots. It’s OK when they’re “passing through the magnetic field” but otherwise is very odd – space doesn’t act that way. A man on the set pushing up and down on the X-wing cockpit in 1976 is the cause, and it looks strange.

You’re welcome and thanks! 😃

Adywan, please keep Anakin’s force ghost as Hayden in RotJ. I know that this seems abhorrent to some for the links with the prequels he has and that it makes little sense within the original trilogy, but he has been confirmed as appearing as Anakin again in Episode VIII, probably as a force ghost. So please, for the sale of continuity, keep Anakin as Hayden.

I haven’t watched ANH:R yet but if you kept in the SE sandtrooper CGI scene, please change the highlights on the helmets to grey to match the rest of the film.

Thank you!

And I’m sure Adywan will agree. And this applies to both your revisited suggestion and your information (link or it didn’t happen) - oh god I hope it’s not true - I loved TFA and loved that they kept prequel sh*t out of it, so I hope they’re not gonna ruin The First Order Strikes Back like this.

Yeah, it’s just a rumor. I think it’s pretty unlikely, since writer/director Rian Johnson has been on record disparagingly calling the Special Editions the “90s cartoon versions”. If Hayden did have a role, for all we know it could be the kind of “role” Ewan MacGregor had in the Force Awakens, i.e. a short voiceover clip in a force vision scene that is barely audible. ROTJ:R likely won’t release until Episode VIII anyway, so I don’t think we need to talk about this until then.

EDIT: What I’d rather talk about is the displays on the Falcon. TFA has the classic old-school displays with the arrows indicating enemy targets, so I’m wondering if this is something that will be “Revisited” in ANH:R HD. I also think some of the graphics, including the binocular graphics, look a little too pristine in light of what ESB:R and TFA have presented us with. I’d like to see if Ady could find a happy medium between the original graphics and the spruced up versions in ANH:R.
