Is it normal for TeamNegative1 to take so much time to answer a message?

Quick update 3

Tarkin holographic message shot done! Main post updated with information on how to obtain the shot!

Didn’t had time to cut more of Dooku’s saber today.

Huge Death Star explosion update:
First i tried to do some animations and tests on AfterFX, but none of them looked good enough. Then it became very clear to me, this can’t be done on AfterFX, its just too hard and unpractical.
So what to do?
Well… here comes the tricky part… i have acces to blender, so i tried to download some Death Star models. All the models where in 3ds format, so all i had to do was import them!
Sounds pretty simple, right? WRONG, for some reason when i tried to import the models, ALL the textures either disappeared or became all screwed up.
So whats the sollution?
I’ll have to create my Death Star model, its not THAT hard, there are a lot of tutorials, the problem is that this takes a LOT of time, without even adding the time that will take to make the explosion animation!
So i’ll continue to work on this, but just keep in mind that this will take a LONG time, i hope thats not a problem.
Last but not the least, i didn’t wanted all my time on AfterFX to go to waste, so i took what i already had, corrected a fell things and made pretty rough idea of a different explosion:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Rjejtvq7XM
If there is enough interest, i’ll make a better looking version of this, if not then no! So please, let me know what you think!

I dont know if i should post this here, but… xxtelecine7xx contacted me on a project his working on and i’m pretty interested, just letting him know i’m starting to do my own tests regarding his project 😄

Didn’t had any time to work on Frink’s idea today.

I like the Death Star explosion, but when it gets gradually brighter in the beginning, I think it should have a more red/yellow hue to it, to suggest it’s heating up. Looks kinda cheesy as it is. Also once it’s completely white, I would cut straight to the explosion, rather than lingering as its gets the outer glow. Just my personal opinion, but I think it would work a lot better.

The Death Star test is actually a pretty interesting proof of concept. Having two rings instead of just one makes the explosion a lot more grand. I agree with Darth Lucas as well. I think the way the Death Star II explodes is kind of like that; it glows a little bit then blows up completely.

Speaking of your 3D model problems, do you think making an actual model could work too? I have access to a green screen so I could film it possibly. I’d have to learn how to make a decent model though. Not sure which would be more work. You also run into the problem of not only making a Death Star model (whether it be real or CG) but also having to make it break into pieces in a way that is similar to the Death Star II, if you want imply they are the same station.

I understand this may be rather difficult to accomplish so I am behind any other ideas we can invest in that might actually benefit the story more.

Yeah i agree with Darth Lucas too, and since you guys shown some interest, i’ll make a better looking version of the 2d explosion 😃

Regarding the 3d explosion, making a real model wouldn’t be very helpfull, at least in my opinion.
You see, i want to do an epic explosion, something that simply wouldn’t be possible with an actual model!
This scene from the movie Oblivion illustrates the kind of explosion i want to do:
(CONTAIN SPOILERS) The explosion starts at 1:34
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHKtN9jPK1w

I want to do an explosion that looks like that, but that still fits into the Star Wars universe!
If you have a different idea on this, please, let me know 😃

That is actually a pretty great explosion. Instead of the Death Star just disappearing, seeing actual chunks of it float away would be interesting to see. That seems like it would be pretty time consuming to create though.

Wow, ok, I had no memory of that. Is it on the Blu?

It’s on the DVD too.

Unless it’s an Easter Egg, or a Canadian thing, it ain’t. I just checked.

I think the DVD has Shak Ti getting it from Grevious, while the Blu Ray has the Anakin version. There wasn’t much ported over from the DVD’s.

Yeah, really time consuming, that’s why i think i wont be able to finish this year…
But it will pay off in the end!

I don’t want to add to your list of things to do, and I would be willing to do it myself if someone could point me in the right direction of how to do it, but could we possible change the Death Star hologram in Episode 2 with a hologram blue-print of Grievous? Not sure how interested people would be in this, so if their isn’t any we can move on to something more important.

Awesome idea, i’ll try out!

And please, if anyone has any request to make, please, just do it, eventually i’ll be testing your request too 😄

Quick Update 4

Here’s the first test of Grievous as an Hologram in Episode 2:

This model was use to do the animation:
http://animium.com/2008/07/general-grievous
So what do you guys think?

Frink speeder idea is getting really hard to do, every test i did looked like crap… but not to worry, i still haven’t tryed everything!

Thanks to littlev87 for sending me some cleaned up clips of the Luke and Biggs scene. I’m still not sure on how to properly edit that scene to feel “natural”, but i’ll figure something out.

SuperSecretMuffin, you still need to send me the clips you want edited, since you’re using 7xx’s version as a basis.

Also, if someone could send an HD rip of the deleted scenes, especially both Shaak Ti’s deaths, this would be pretty helpfull. Remember, i only downloaded the films, i dont have good quality versions of the deleted scenes!

I’m still cutting Dooku’s saber. Sorry for taking so long, its just that this is one of the most time consuming things i have to do, and i still have to work on more requests… so… i’m sorry but this will take more time.

Dude, the Grievous hologram looks absolutely great. I’m surprised how quickly you did it! Seriously, if you need an editing partner in crime let me know. I feel like we all could make some pretty cool stuff.

One thought I’ve had regarding the speeder shot. Get a hold of the Sith Speeder toy made for the 12 inch Darth Maul, and shoot it front of a greenscreen? Unless the smaller scale toy would work?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Star-Wars-Darth-Maul-Sith-Speeder-Stealth-Bike-21-/310266084690

The problem isn’t with the picture it self. Currently i’m using this picture:
http://img4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080409150116/starwars/images/0/08/FC-20_frontback.jpg

Then i color correct it, to fit the the light and climate of the original shot (work in progress):
http://hundsdorfer.deviantart.com/art/Speeder-Test-573373132?ga_submit_new=10%3A1448073561&ga_type=edit&ga_changes=1&ga_recent=1

It does’t look that bad, visually is totally fixable. The problem is movement!
I tryed to do some animations, but the movement didn’t look natural. The problem is, we’re moving a 2d image on a 3d image, and that is a tricky thing to do.

So now i’m trying to use this:

Hopefully we can get some good results 😄

Awesome! Didn’t know a 3D digital model existed outside ILM. 😃
