Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD * — Page 183

I sometimes regret not getting my hands on one of those Revenge posters. There was no way to know how fast those were going to sell out back then.

I’m surprised they didn’t just make them a membership renewal perk like the ESB 1981 reissue poster. The fan club did give out Revenge patches though.

Harrison Ford chimes in on The Force Awakens

Did I just watch Harrison Ford in a hot-dog costume burp on television while talking to a bearded Princess Leia?
(and I though the video with JJ Abrams and the iPad was weird.)

Star Wars is Surrealism, not Science Fiction (essay)
Original Trilogy Documentaries/Making-Ofs (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. finds)
Beyond the OT Documentaries/Making-Ofs (YouTube, Vimeo, etc. finds)

If I do this sort of thing (turning Harrison Ford into talking food) I get accused of being obscure, criminal or weird 😄

Yet another trailer. 😉

I seem to recall some old interview where Mark Hamill said that the last SW film would have a weird and 2001-esque ending. So I guess this is appropriate?

(EDIT: Does anyone remember this interview? I tried to google it but couldn’t find anything. Did I just imagine this? This may have been back when Lucas’ was considering making 12 films.)

Maybe it was in a old magazine that has yet to be digitized?

No I’m pretty sure I read it online, and it was only some five-ish years ago, but even then it was a reference to an older interview (I think from the late 80’s or early 90’s).

I seem to remember that being on the 2004 Bonus DVD somewhere (maybe Empire of Dreams), but I could be wrong.

One day we will have properly restored versions of the Original Unaltered Trilogy (OUT); or 1977, 1980, 1983 Theatrical released versions (Like 4K77,4K80 and 4K83); including Prequels. So that future generations can enjoy these historic films that changed cinema forever.

That’s possible. I watched the hell out of that bonus DVD when I was a kid. I might have overheard it there, then re-read it somewhere several years later.

Yeah, I didn’t pick up on the E.T. notes the first time. It’s a clever mix up job though.

Well, we never had commercials like this back in my day!

I love the way the blades pulsate. I hope that’s true for the film as well.

I’m not ashamed to say I got a bit emotional watching that. It reminds me so much of what it was like as a young kid to be Star Wars fan and put your wild imagination into action.
And I noticed to blade pulsating too, I absolutely geeked at how it looks so much more like the OT blades. I really like the look of Kylo Ren’s shuttle too, seeing it in live action form. Also, hilarious how this one commercial had better VFX than the PT, though I guess it has been 10 years since ROTS. Guess ILM is in on the marketing as well.

Carrie’s is great. Obviously, they’re presenting her in the best ‘light’ possible (i.e., editing work), but they’ve done so without smoothing over her skin into plastic, etc. And the tactical center foreground/background of hers is great.

Does Harrison really have that crooked of a nose? It looks like they’ve composited a slightly angled shot with a straight-on one in a way that doesn’t really make sense. Nice to see his old blaster.

The other posters look fine, too. Nothing really new from what we’ve been seeing of those three, though. The saber blade in Finn’s eye is a nice touch. There may be something of interest in Rey’s eye reflection too, but can’t make it out.

Something I didn’t really notice until now, or maybe only noticed on a subconscious level, is how much Rey’s staff weapon thing resembles Darth Maul’s lightsaber.
