A bit of DVD news today...
It looks as if 20th Century Fox is going to be reissuing Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones on disc on 3/22. These will both be the same DVD editions as were previously released, in separate anamorphic widescreen and full frame editions. Why 3/22? Well, the animated Star Wars: Clone Wars, Vol. 1 arrives on DVD on 3/22 as well. It's all part of the retail build-up to the theatrical debut of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith on 5/19.

I'm assuming the same cover art as well so it still won't fit in with your OT DVD set. But there's still time for this to change. And there's still the possibility of the whole enchilada being released as a box set that will fit in with your OT DVDs.

You'd think he'd make special editions of these as well.

Maybe in the 2006/2007 release.

Honestly, if the new Phantom Menace has better PQ than before (the first had way too much EE) I might go for it.

Gentlemen, you can’t fight in here, this is the war room!

I wasn't a fan of TPM DVD's video at all. It had this inherent "fuzz" I've not seen on any other DVD, as well as said edge enhancement. It just looked cruddy, especially in the Jedi Council scenes. Maybe it's just me...

I found it abominable that the DVD has been for sale all during this moratorium on the official site, for a whopping $30, no doubt.

I refuse to buy TMP on DVD until it drops to a standard $19.95 or less.

Especially when you can get the "Original" Trilogy for like 20 dollars more, right? Retarded. Seriously. What??

You can get TPM here (England) for next to nothing. No one wants it.

And the PAL version has less EE.

Hmmm... wonder if Magnoliafan would consider doing a PAL version of Balance of the Force?

You're surprised? I'm not. Heh heh.

Actually, the used DVD stores peppered throughout the area where I live are loaded up with used copies of TPM and AOTC. However, 90% of them are full screen. Blech!

HehHeh. I'm not surprised! I don't even own the prequels, and I've been a huge star wars fan since I could crawl.

Well I was walking by the time the first one came out on the big screen. But soon after, I was crawling around playing with the action figures. Does that count?

Another blown opportunity from our "friends" at Lucasfilm and Fox. If "The Fandom Penance" is indeed the same transfer as the previous DVD, instead of a direct from digital transfer, then that is a missed opportunity. If it doesn't have the power of the laser discs 5.1 track, then that's another missed opportunity. If they could get those two things to happen, it would justify the reissue.

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

"The Fandom Penance"

OMFG! ROTFLMFAO!!!

That's great, dude!

BTW, I know that Rikter has the TPM LD. It would be cool if someone could capture the AC3 track off of it.
