Am I the only one who prefers the old ewok music?

i've read many times how much people hate the original ewok music at the end of ROTJ and i really don't see why...the new music is ok i guess but it doesn't fit as well imo...the old music worked well in the last scene and there was a smooth transition between the final scene and the ending credits.....

don't know if this topic has been cover here or not but i just saw the DVD's this weekend and it really bothered me...

anyway, just thought i'd see if i was the only one with this view...

I like the original ending, and it will be on my DVDs.

MeBeJedi: Sadly, I believe the prequels are beyond repair.
JediRandy: They’re certainly beyond any repair you’re capable of making.

MeBeJedi: You aren’t one of us.
Go-Mer-Tonic: I can’t say I find that very disappointing.

JediRandy: I won’t suck as much as a fan edit.

Rocked. New stuff sucks. I mean what were they trying to make it more serious or something when there are friggin Ewoks banging on stormtrooper helmets? Please.

Though I prefer the new ending to Yub Nub, I didn't hate Yub Nub, as I didn't hate the Ewoks (I'm in a real minority there). On the 1997 release, John Williams had a nice commentary on writing new music and I'm glad the he wrote this portion. He did not write Jedi Rocks in the Jabba sequence, which is another reason to hate that song. It is so friggin out of place because it was by a totally different composer. I do remember finding Yub Nub a cheesy ending, even in the days before the SE, so I was not upset that it was changed. Of course, I'm upset that it hasn't been preserved in an offical O-OT DVD and on the special edition soundtrack. Pick up the Anthology Boxed Set CD if you can find a copy.

I want the anthology so bad. On the subject of music, I've searched everywhere for the music that Max Rebo Band plays when Chewie's being taken away in ROTJ. Is it on the anthology?

I actually never had anything against the ewoks either. And one of the things that upset me about the special editions (which i didnt mind as much as some people, but i still think the DVD should have the original version on it as an option, even if it was an easter egg) was the removal of Yub Nub.

The way i see it, first off, i dont not like the music of the new one, i just prefer Yub Nub. I dont think that the music fits with whats going on in the scene. For instance, there is one part where an ewok is playing the drums on some of the helmets (stormtrooper, imperial scout, death star trooper i believe) the original music had a part that coincided with this (at least from my recollection).

The other thing, I saw the celebrations on the other planets as wierd. They just blew up the death star, the heros basically land on endor and theirs not much time before they have this celebration (a few hours max) Ok, i understand they have advanced communication chains because their technology is beyond ours, but...its a rebellion, most of the bases are gonna be hidden...not to mention that just about all of their forces are were at this battle, so who would they really be telling, and who are all these people celebrating. Most of the people back at these cities are probably indifferent to the rebellion and just want to go on with their everyday lives, sure they may not like the empire, but they'd rather not get killed over it.

finally, I've always seen it as a celebration on endor. the Yub Nub song is a 'tribal' ewok song...some song of happiness and rejoicing...so unlike most movie music, its something that the people in the movie are actually hearing (and the ewoks are actually singing it).

thats pretty much why i like Yub Nub better and why i feel the ending should have stayed on endor and not been celebrations on all the other planets.

Most annoying thing is that one yell that's repeated in the background for no apparent reason like 10,000 times. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I completely agree with Darth Simon. Besides the fact that the news of the destruction of the Death Star II and the death of the Emperor travel at an amazing pace, even the head of the empire is dead, it does not mean that the empire has vanished. Coruscant is still under imperial control, there might be panic, but not the kind of celebration on a mass scale that the Special Edition depicts. Get real.

I thought that "Yub Nub" was fun because it worked for the small gathering of weathered warriors. It worked for the Ewoks culture and it seemed a lot more upbeat than the new music. When I first saw the ROTJ SE in theaters and the celebration music came on, it just seemed really depressing. I mean, the rebels just won a major victory, I would be partying! Not solemnly considering the effect on the rest of the galaxy.

I also think that the balance of music in that section of the movie was better originally. After all, the funeral pyre scene was sad and "Yub Nub" was happy. Now it is like going from sad to solemn.

The original music did have a piece that fit with that one ewok drumming on the stormtrooper helmets. The new music had a piece but it sounded a lot different and not as good in my opinion.

It's some yell you first hear when they show Coruscant and it just repeats in the background for no reason until the credits.

I've seen used copies on Amazon for around $25-30 US plus shipping. That's below what they sold for in stores. Read the descriptions well, cause there was one really bum set up there.

I hate the new music, and I couldn't believe it was John Williams when I heard it, it sounds like nothing else in the whole saga and seems completely out of place. it sounds like cheesey end-credit music from a Manga film.

I don't really have too much of a problem with showing the celebrations on other planets, I always saw it as a montage of events that happen after the fall of the Empire, and not neccesarily at the same time as the Ewok celebration, although there do seem some inconsistencies for instance why are they celebrating on Tatooine? when it was always considered to be too remote a planet for the Empire to be interested, and was under Hutt rule?

and I always assumed that Cloud city would have been abandoned after Lando gave the order to evacuate at the end of Empire.

and lastly, considering theres no reference at all to Naboo in the original trilogy even though it seemed to play such a crucial role in the prequals, George messed up the perfect opportunity to wipe out the planet in catastrophic fashion, considering how the planet seems to have remained completely unchanged in over 30 years from the first film.

when did the OT make any reference to Tatooine being to remote...that reference was only in episode I as far as i remember, which is basically the source of all the consitencies anyway.

not that im defending the song, i posted above how i prefered Yub Nub, just not sure if that reference is correct, cause i dont remember it from any of the OT movies

but yeah, naboo is never referenced and now plays such a big part...kinda wierd. Lucas def should of had Vader destroy it cause that would explain the whole 'the power to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the force' comment he makes in episode IV, plus it would be totally awsome. even then one could argue why it was never mentioned...but it would make more sense.

"If there's a bright center to the universe, we're on the planet that is farthest from."

"Not unless you could alter time, speed up the harvest or teleport me off this rock."

"What a desolate place this is."

"There's not much to see. I use to live here, you know."

And also the Biggs scene that was cut, he talks about the Empire not having any interest in the planet or something. But these are rather obscure references. Still...

Perhaps we've been too hard on the old yub-yub music...

"Ara strifea" or something like that. I know exactly what you're refering to. According to the captioning of the first VHS release, they're "singing in Ewokese". That's right, citizans of Coruscant are singing in Ewokese.

I love Ewok Celebration. Victory Celebration was ok, but just didn't fit as well(like Hayden's glare over Sebastian's warm smile). Interestingly, it was when my mom pointed out its absence as we pulled out of the parking lot that I begun to question the SE. Before, the euphoria of seeing the films on the big screen had me ignoring the changes. They just didn't exist(except in the first showing of Star Wars, where they were distracting to the point of confusion if I hadn't known the film as well as I did). It was the loss of "Yub Nub" that started the ball rolling. That made me notice the redundancy of the Jabba sequence, the ruined pace of the flight from Bespin, the comicalness of the once forbidding Mos Eisley. It turned my elation at seeing Coruscant for the first time, a planet I had read much about in the Eu, into a bittersweet memory when I realised how stupid a celebration on it would be. Even if you factor that these parties are most likely being thrown months later, it's still pretty dumb. Fortunately, after being horrifyed when the X Wing saga made it canon(I don't consider the SE canon, but I do consider the EU as so) after it had the strongest arguement against it. One character pre-SE noted how many planets rebelled after the emperor's death. Such things weren't a problem on Imperial Center. Fortunately, the post-SE novel makes the scene gruesome, a symbol of the Empire's evil. The scene works in the EU, not the SE.

I'm just glad I have the old RotJ OST. Though that version is much more Ewok heavy than the film. Even Victory Celebration is vastly different from its film version.

I have that Anthology, got it for Christmas after the SE came out. I love the old music becuase it was the first i heard but i think i'm in the minority here when i say i love new music too. I like the sad to solemn transition, plus the music alone is very well done. I think its just really Star Wars like, and it fit well. But that's just my own opinion.

I always associate "Yub yub" as the music that played when you were entering your initials in the high score table of the arcade game. So yeah, I didn't like the new music.
