I feel ... wrong.

A part of me is telling me that I should be excited about the movie, and want to see it.

Yet... all I can feel is antipathy towards it. The trailer does not feel like Star Wars.

Just because a link is named ".mov" does not mean that it is a ".mov" file, unfortunately. Apple is up to some shenaningans ...

I hear you and on some level I agree.  It wont feel exactly like Star Wars but instead it will be someone else's version with some of the same characters and themes.

The thing with the original trilogy is there was so much wonder in a Universe that was still largely unexplored by us fans.  Additional movies can do nothing but unveil what was best left to the imagination.

But i have every confidence TFA will stand as an outstanding movie all on its own.  It doesnt have to have the same feel of Lucas' original trilogies.

And anyone excited about The Rogue One spin off thinking its going to feel like Star Wars is likely setting themselves up for disappointment.  It will feel even less ike Star Wars that TFA is likely to.

I think that one was debunked elsewhere a while back?

Only one leaked image of Luke has been the real deal so far.

a few "leaked images" from the movie:

particularly liked this one (if real):

On a funny note, my father said he looks like Hamill in this shot! (and I agree with him :D)

Watching the trailer on face value it seems like a good fun and exciting movie to watch. And It's got a draw you in feel.

A bit or a small glimpse of the characters but although they don't want to give too much away, at least we got to see a small portion of acting, but nothing that really stood out as amazing acting or particularly emotional.

The action does look great... That hyperspace tunnel really did it for me, nice update there.

I'm confident it's going to be good, but I am still left wondering what the acting is going to be like in it. I'm not that worried but I just want to get a feel of the characters a bit more.

A trend that I've noticed in the three previews of this film is that it's taking itself too seriously. Cryptic dialogue, an unrelenting dark/sad tone, and a refusal to say what the film is about, other than "it's about Star Wars." Where's the fun banter? The simple, swashbuckling adventure style?

Pretty important point here that's kinda being ignored. It's the best term I can link to that elusive "Star Wars feel". It's not just "Well the old films were from the 70s/80s, what'd you expect?" Star Wars is much more classic swashbuckler fantasy (Like the old Douglas Fairbanks films of the 10s/20s or serials like Flash Gordon) than sci-fi or modern action. Both OT and Indiana Jones master that style. Granted the characters in-universe may need some level of seriousness, but the near-deadpan expressions and dialouge, along with the lack of shots SHOWING said style in the trailer doesn't exactly give any hope that it'll "feel" like Star Wars to us, practical effects or not.

From what's given to us so far, I'm not hooked yet. But I guess we'll see. Remember that there was heavy denial at the release of Phantom Menace.

I hope we get to see at least a little bit of smartassery from Han Solo. In the trailer, he just sounds old and sad (I'm probably assuming too much from ten seconds of dialogue). I get that it's been over 30 years, but you can't deny a fundamental aspect of a character such as him.

Surely Abrams and Kasdan will throw in at a least a couple of scenes of Solo being witty or sarcastic. If not, Kasdan has forgotten how to write the characters he defined years ago.

Seeing Han use his gun lethally on a couple of bad guys would be nice too.

I'm just glad that Han did not say the word "Sith" in the trailer. That term smacks of the PT for me.  He uses "Dark Side" in keeping with the OT. That is promising.

Any prequel terminology coming out of the mouths of the OT cast would be incredibly jarring.

Wow Ive must have watched the new trailer about 10 times!  The music and new footage sent chills down my spine!  Cant wait to know more about the knights of Ren, they look so badass!  First thing ive noticed about what sets TFA trailers apart from the prequal trailers is, NO KIDDIE CRAP!  Im pumped for this film, ive a great feeling were all in for a long overdue SW treat!  These are great days we're living brothers and sisters!

The only thing I don't like about the trailer is that it seems too dark and serious. Star Wars and ESB were often lighthearted, with jokes thrown in here and there. Hopefully the movie will have some of that.

I hear what you are saying.

The early clips we've seen thus far suggest a dire situation and the mood seems much more like LOTR than the OT.  But on the plus side it seems much more like LOTR than the PT.

Does that make it less Star Wars?  I dont know.  I just want a good product.  And truth be told, this movie 'feels' like what the PT should have felt like...the great tragedy.

One thing though...the cast of the LOTR all spoke with great reverence for the material.  The cast of this film spoke endlessly of how fun this movie was.

I think we'll get our moments of levity and it will be fun.  The music and constant imagery of a serious crisis are fundamental to the plot; not necessarily the mood.

The trailer is grandiose and somber because of the score and I believe there will be a tragic ending and moments of poignancy in between what i still think will be a raucous high adventure type of film.

I liked the trailer because is just a trailer, for those who want more plot/substance I suggest waiting for the movie premier. Also I'm sure that there will be one or two more trailers so hold your horses.

Someone said a few pages back that we shouldn't expect a massive breakthrough since that ended on ESB (for several reasons, I think) and I agree, a good honest homage to the OT (taking in consideration that these are very different times) with a tight script will work.

Also:
-NO Lucas involved
-A lot of the original cast.
-So far there is no impression of any ''Misa misa I'm so stupid I put my tongue in a podracer electric field'' moments or characters.
-Screenplay by Lawrence Kasdan
-JJ at least tries to make decent and coherent films.
-The PT sets the bar so low that we can almost assume that TFA is not among the 3 worst movies on the franchise.

For me the worst case scenario will be a ROTJ feeling which is not bad at all.

I'm all into the hype train since this is the first SW movie in 11 years and at this point we don't know if it will suck and we hope it doesn't, if it ends up sucking then I will hate it for the rest of my life but in the meantime... WHOOPEEE A NEW STAR WARS FILM!

After looking at the resized screenshot here: http://collider.com/star-wars-7-trailer-analysis-starkiller-base/ , I am pretty certain that the rumours are true and Han dies.

That shot with Daisy Ridley crying? Definitely him laying on the ground. His jacket shoulder rim stitch, shape and colour match, and above all - look at the hair. It's gray, longer and more sparse. Definitely not John Boayega and most certainly not Chewie.

Sadly, I think that this adventure will be the end for Han Solo. :(

There is no way they'd put something in the trailer that would allow you to figure that out conclusively. They have to know that people are going to pick apart every frame of this. In fact, I think it's not unlikely that they put that in there to get us all to double down on "that's definitely where Han dies" and throw us off of something else. I'm not saying I think he lives, but I really can't believe thats what this shot is.

I just wandered into my local branch of Virgin Megastore and rummaging through the CDs and Vinyl I noticed they had the soundtrack for the new Star Wars film.

I made a mistake of looking on the back *spoilers* Qui-Gon dies (or his arse has it's own theme tune), it's probably him in the trailer... oh crap... I'm typing out of sequence again.

I am odd... sorry... just ignore my words (what an ego! that's three sentences beginning with the word I in a row).

I've seen people comment that they're absolutely sure it's just about every character, now. Finn, Chewbacca, Leia, Han, even Luke and Kylo. I totally agree that the shot would have never made it through the layers of review before release if it was so such a simple spoiler. It'd never have made it past JJ alone.

It was actually a great move on their part, given how much discussion and probably misleading it has created.

That flowing texture is typical of Mumford's work, as is the monochromatic palette.  If I had to guess at the next three;  A blue Kylo themed, grey First Order themed, and green Luke themed.

or...

I could be completely off and they're going with four different artists.  ;-)

I haven't been following all the rumours but has anybody considered that Rey and Kylo Ren might be brother and sister, perhaps even twins to mirror Luke and Leia from the Original Trilogy? The way the positions of their heads are so similar and facing in the same direction in the poster, while Finn is facing in the other direction, and the way their weapons intermesh suggest that there could be a special connection between the two characters. Could Vader perhaps be his grandfather, which would explain even more his reverence of him?

I also read somewhere that JJ said that Kylo Ren will be going through his own character journey in this film. That would seem to suggest that he could survive this film and be an important character throughout the whole trilogy. Perhaps he might go through a similar character journey as Zuko does in the three seasons of The Last Airbender. Looking at that poster and the positions of Rey and Kylo Ren, the possibility just jumped out at me. Has anybody suggested anything similar or have the already existing rumours debunked such a possibility?
