Did anyone celebrate Columbus Day last week? Because he was the greatest mass murderer in history pre-20th century. He was the father of imperialism, and completely indefensible as a person. Nearly all of the native population in the Americas was wiped out by diseases he brought over from Europe, the tailspin of the sixth mass extinction started here, and the Atlantic slave trade could not have existed without him. If the masses knew the truth about Columbus it would produce anti-american sentiment at home, so they have to lie about the man to keep the country in line. Columbus wasn't the Stalin of the 15th century; instead, Stalin was the Columbus of the 20th century.

The great value in your posts is not their profundity but the good laughs I get from your excessive hyperbole.

I GOT OUT OF THE HOSPITAL LAST NIGHT, BUT I PROBABLY SHOULD'VE STAYED A FEW MORE DAYS.

Next I’m going to be forced to go vegan.

I’m surprised you’re not one already.

I’m not, and never plan on being one.

I mean what can you do anymore? Siting down is bad for you, you can’t smoke, eat red meat, drink anything but water, half of the English language is racially offensive nowadays, and I can’t celebrate thanksgiving anymore because it offends Native Americans.

To top it all off, I don’t like this new change to the forums.

Why is that offensive to Native Americans? What is so offensive about sitting down with my family on a Thursday in November to have a turkey dinner and watching some football(other than the name of the football team from Washington)?

Isn’t it obvious? On the first Thanksgiving, the pilgrims massacred an entire Native tribe and then ate their pet turkeys over their bloody corpses.

Thanksgiving’s been ruined FOREVER. FOREVER, I say!

I was unaware that happened at the first Thanksgiving. I always thought we sat down with them and ate together in peace.

Don’t worry though; ever since the celebration of Christmas was extended to two months Thanksgiving has gotten lost in the shuffle.

I must admit I find the new forum cluttered and buggy. although it does have the added bonus of letting me post from my phone. although when using the phone walls of text often overlap on the topic index, and whenever i post i have to manually erase the explanation of the new syntax.

Ok, I’d like to b**** about Fox Sports. They are broadcasting game 1 of World Series. Apparently, the power to their truck went out and they could no longer broadcast. It also interfered with the ability to review plays. It delayed the game and they switched the feed to some international broadcast of the game. I think the Fox announcers came over to the booth of the international broadcast and are now calling the game from there(as I was typing this the Fox feed finally returned). This is inexcusable. If the Phillies were playing in this series, I would be very, very, very, VERY pissed. This is the championship of Major League Baseball. There are no bigger games than these. This is a zillion dollar industry! How do they not test there equipment and perform the needed maintenance to ensure this doesn’t happen? How do they no have backup upon backup upon backup?!?! THEY ARE BROADCASTING THE WORLD SERIES!!! This is a situation where no expense should be spared to make sure something like this doesn’t happen and if it does, to make you get things back up and running a lot faster than they did tonight. At the very least, why were they not prepared to immediately switch to the international feed in the event something like this happens?! You could tell they were totally unprepared to switch to the international feed by how long it took them to do it. Fans of the Mets and Royals must be pissed. This is completely incompetence by Fox Sports. That this could happen at all and that they were so unprepared for it is shockingly unacceptable. Fox has a lot to answer for.

I’m with you about the new forum though… Was this thing really ready to launch?

It only happened because of the fairly frequent outages that were happening. If we didn’t have that problem, I’m sure Jay would have waited a while before making the update (and it probably would have been just an update, with no change of servers).

Even the migration gave the old hosting service one last opportunity to screw up; I haven’t had FTP access for days and can’t retrieve the old avatars until they fix it. It’s just the latest (and now the last, thankfully) hassle in a long list of problems over the previous year and a half, and frankly, since this all comes out of my own pocket, I got sick of paying them for such bad service.

The old software couldn’t run on the new server without major modifications. I decided to spend that time getting the new software, which was still very early, in better shape so it would at least be usable at launch. It’s been a marathon and I haven’t done much in my spare time since April besides write code and test. I’m not complaining; I was happy to do it.

Anchorhead said it best in the bug topic (before I locked it); we’re in the same boat we were 8 years ago when I launched the old software. Tons of complaints, lots of “essential” features missing, lots of people expressing their subjective opinions (quite loudly and rudely), the sky is falling, how could you do this to us, children are dying, etc.

Last I checked, we all made it through just fine. We will this time, too. Everyone just needs to take a breath and relax. I was pretty pissed yesterday as the complaints starting rolling in, but I’m over it now. Anyone who finds the site “horrible” and “unusable” (not my words) can either chill out and wait it out, or you can take a little break and come back in a month or two, after which I’m sure a lot of the biggest issues will be worked out.

Just keep in mind that if we were still on the old hosting service, we probably would’ve ended up with a week-long outage starting right before before Ep. VII dropped.

I was fearing a total meltdown if we didn’t get off enterhost before December. Look what happened with those online ticketing sites last week.

I think by the time you can retrieve the old avatars, most people can replace their own or retrieve it from archive.org snapshots of the old forum. If it’s going to cost you money to get them back from enterhost, it’s probably not worth it.

I am really sorry about the complainers in the thread. It started off with people trying to give constructive criticism, knowing that you were going to fix things, but it soon fell into people bitching and moaning and being plain rude. We’re on a free forum for Christssake. This isn’t a product they purchased and turned defective. It’s a community-run internet forum that they pay jack-shit for.

The entitlement and baby mentality really irks me sometimes.
