More OUT Rerelease Rumors from John Landis! — Page 6

They can't release the original versions now; the universe would collapse on itself within seconds. If they actually released good artwork for this, they would be breaking the laws of physics as we know it.

If they do this and allow for theatrical prints for art houses and festivals etc I propose this site and it's forums become the DecrapifyThePrequels.com so we have a new cause rally behind and continue to moan about :-D

How about prequeltrilogy.com?

The purpose will be to discuss Padme's x-men like ability changing costumes form scene to scene. She could be a shapesifter ... and that means ... ... oh man, that circumstance changes the whole Prequel Trilogy!

Maybe not.

It's not like we want them to blaze a trail in virgin territory. There is a precedent for what we're looking for.

Why can't they just do this, but with Star Wars?

Because George Lucas is not Ridley Scott.

Sorry, boys.  Legacy is not whatever is being rumored about here.

Ah, well, there goes my interest in these OUT rumors. Even if Disney/Lucasfilm are planning on a OUT release, I doubt it will have the time, care and expertise that Mike has put in.
And I doubt it will really be the OUT...

If we're lucky it will be a big bandied about process resulting in a simple presentation of the 35mm general release editions.

If it actually happens, we're probably talking about conforming a new 97SE scan to the original cut with probably the Dolby Stereo track for each-probably then upmixed to 5.1.

But...if we get really, really lucky..a full-on restoration process could be underway, akin to what the majors do on their big titles like Sony and Warner. Robert Harris has even offered his opinions on several occasions.

Heck if Universal can start actually doing this stuff correctly from time to time, there's no reason why it can't happen.

But the big problem is that even if this does ever happen...no one is going to know, understand or even put the time in to get just how many variants, audio mixes and tweaks exist for the OT. I've spoken to many about things like for example the SW mono mix and they look at me like I'm nuts. How many in the loop do you think have even touched upon color consistency on Death Star interiors or garbage mattes or any of our usual topics?

Maybe they're waiting for someone to do it themselves.

Probably holds true for roughly 99% of the internet's fora, too...

Though it's shame so few of them are lucky enough to have you around to point it out to them, Frinkie, old boy.

That's too long. I suggest we shorten it to Ducasfilm.

They should take Verta's work for Star Wars, at least.

What if Disney decides to revive the old Lucasarts company just for the sake of a Disney Interactive Software merger? Would that be called....

In the relevant thread at the AVS Forum, someone brought up a good point about how Disney will inevitably want to release these movies on UHD blu-ray.

For the OT, they know that another SE, even if it's an SE with expanded color, HDR and in 4k, is not gonna be enough of a selling point. Not nearly as many people will make the jump to UHD like they did with blu-ray. Since those steelbook singles and the reissue of the complete saga set are hitting next month, I'm guessing it's gonna be a while before we see another release of the existing films.

When another release does inevitably happen, probably for the UHD debut, I simply don't see it being a big enough deal to catch people's attention unless the unaltered originals are included as well. Maybe that's when we'll see the grand "all versions" edition rolled out on both regular and 4k blu just as we saw blade runner on the hd formats and regular dvd.

I ran over to Amazon to look at reviews of the steelbook editions from people who claim to already have them. They say it's still the SE's, but one review mentioned that Greedo doesn't fire.

Makes me wonder if that one small change was made, and Lucas mentioned to Landis that in the next release Han would shoot first, and Landis in turn took that comment to mean more than it really did...

The fact that the steelbooks are well over a month away makes that comment highly suspect.

However, we did hear this very same rumor back in April the day before the digital versions became available for download, with clarification following the next day that this was actually seen by someone inside Lucasfilm and that it could still be for a future version of the movie.

I'd be shocked if these steelbooks weren't the exact same 2011 discs. It makes sense that we'd see big changes made to these movies for their dvd debut and then again for the blu-ray. Those were both huge upgrades in how people could watch the movies at home and it makes sense that GL would use those occassions to make additional changes. Also, in both cases, it had been seven years since the previous revision (which makes me wonder .... 2018?).

Interesting if that's true though. It would keep the tradition of never releasing the same version twice.

I think the 2013 Blu Ray sets with DVD's of the 2011 versions counts as twice?
