Would you want to see Anakin or Obi Wan in the new trilogy, portrayed by their PT actors? — Page 3

Higher ups usually want what will give them the most money. Typically that means letting the creative minds do what they want. If they butt in it's because they think what they have to add will give them more money. Adding one of the worst received parts of a poorly received set of films to a fresh new (presumably) well received set of films is not going to help at all.

I think that's why it's a long shot at best.  If they are considering it, no doubt it will be studied and focus-grouped extensively.  Just planting a completely unsubstantiated rumor could very well be their initial test to see what the climate is with regard to showing him in the restored franchise.

For the record;  I've never seen him in anything, so I can't really speak to his chops.  However, through the years I've seen a few clips of his work in the Star Wars films and a few other films.

He seems believable in the films where he's under the leadership of a talented director and well-written story. I would hope his one-dimensional work under Lucas wouldn't deter Disney from giving him the nod. If anything, having him in the Rogue One anthology may work in gaining some credibility to his portraying Vader.

 He's good in Shattered Glass.

Then again, I think he's good in Star Wars, so take my opinion with a grain of sand.

My knee-jerk reaction is: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooo.........0000000000oooooOOOOO!"

But as I think about it, Hayden and Co under the direction of a director that can direct?  Yeah... That could probably work out.  I still kind of hate to think about the PT getting legitimized by later, better films, but if we're stuck with them anyway....

I'd rather not see Hayden Christensen in the ST, more because I'm hoping the ST isn't as Vader-centric as the rumor about him seems to suggest than because of any bad feelings about Hayden himself. Natalie Portman was just as bad as he was in the PT and she's amazing in other stuff, so I don't find it difficult to believe at all that Christensen would do all right with good direction. One of the things that excited me most when the ST was announced, though, was that we'd presumably finally be moving beyond Vader (given that, y'know, he's dead). Setting up Vader as an in-universe influence on Kylo Ren is a pretty cool way to tie this new stuff into the larger mythology, but actually having Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader literally present is too much. That said, if they come up with an anthology flick where Hayden makes sense, I'm all for it. Prequel fans deserve to be thrown a bone too, I'd just prefer it be thrown elsewhere in the timeline.

I really hope he isn't a Force ghost, though, because being forced to use the SE Jedi in marathons would be intolerable.

For the record;  He only works in Rogue One.  Completely unnecessary in the ST.

Anakin would be Vader already though?

I don't know about all that. If I'm remembering correctly the new Fantastic 4 was a much different movie before the powers in charge interfered with it.

Maybe he could appear as a hologram (the design for the Death Star was around during the Clone War period) or he could appear under heavy makeup during one of those rare meditation chamber scenes.

I rather liked the bit in Shadows of the Empire (the novel) where Vader removes much of his armour and continues to try to use the Force to heal himself in vain.

 I said "typically" on purpose.

Anyway, I wouldn't mind Hayden returning to the role, but only in the capacity of a spin-off film. A clone wars film would be really neat, but I doubt they'll want to return to that well. If Hayden shows up in an episode there's going to need to be a very good reason.

Spin-offs give an opportunity for flashbacks I think. But he probably shouldn't be in Rogue One. If Vader is in it I don't think it will be a very big role.

They should use him while he's young and available, and fully wrap up the Clone Wars - Anakin story. Distancing from it just to show up what they think of the PT these days is an error by Disney, just as it was an error by Lucas not to shoot the ST while Hammil, Ford and Fisher were young (if in the mind of George, the trio was to be young in the ST)

He could teach Finn things about The Force especially things regarding The Dark Side. Mark Hamill is in Episode VIII and if he dies in TFA it would be cool to see the two teach Finn together as Force Ghosts.

I think Hayden will appear in the flashbacks that show Luke between RoTJ and TFA.

Luke will talk with Anakin's ghost.

What about this idea that keeps coming up about using the Force to read an object's past? That's allegedly the basis of the long-rumored flashback scene in TFA, that Maz Kanata delves into the Skywalker lightsaber's history. If that's true, and if this Hayden thing is true, maybe he'll appear in this sort of flashback, pre-Vader.

Wasn't there a bit in an EU novel where Luke finds an old recording of Anakin and Padme in Artoo's memory?

It's a force ability called Psychometry which Quinlan Vos is most famous for using. Though I've not heard this rumor it would make one hell of a segway.

Yes, by all means, a decision to hugely affect the Sequel Trilogy's themes, plot, and character should be made based solely on giving an actor a chance to redeem himself.

Friends, try for a moment to envision the inevitable scene that will take place (if this rumor is true) involving a spectral Hayden Christensen speaking to (or about) Adam Driver, saying something along the lines of "don't go down that path I traveled all those years ago." Are you recoiling in horror? Good. That is the correct response.

I wouldn't mind seeing Hayden in the ST. All he would need is the right acting coach to get him in the good frame of mind for his scenes and secondly he needs good dialogue. People seem to forget only amazing actors give vastly greater performances than the actual writing allows. I mean even Samuel L. Jackson wasn't good in the PT and he's an overall great actor.

I hear these kinds of defenses of Hayden Christensen a lot around here. And I just don't get them.

I've seen Shattered Glass, the film purported to be the ne plus ultra of his thespian skills, and I can honestly say I don't think he ever rose above the level of mere competence and serviceability; about as good as your average Lou Diamond Phillips performance. Nothing approaching Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction, that's for damn sure.

I dunno, praising an actor for simply being capable of turning in a not-horrible performance seems silly, and kind of smacks of the mentality that gives kids trophies just for showing up to the ballpark and gives congratulatory back-slaps to those Maury Pauvich and Jerry Springer guests who proudly proclaim their ability to pay their own bills.
