That's a fantastic story, Mike.

Little does he know that he's one of the very few people to watch this film properly in a theater in a very, very long time.

I love it!  Now you need to finish up ESB in a hurry or your little one may go to the dark side in anticipation. :D

That's so cool, Mike. Awesome experience for a kid, and one he'll remember forever... :)

Wook, for what it's worth, I don't mind.  I like organic branching.

I understand, but if we make an exception, then every thread collapses into 30 pages of off topic rambling.

And some people just don't know when the heck to stop.

I have not been able to get my daughters into Star Wars.  However, they love Odd Squad, so I must be doing something right.

Great to hear you finished Star Wars, mverta. I do hope one day it will be released with Lucasfilm/Disney blessing, but you would probably have to restore ESB and ROTJ as well. I'm sure they would want to release the whole trilogy as blu-ray. I enjoyed listening to you on the "undressing underground" podcast. I know that you've heard some less than positive info on TFA, but I hope J.J. Abrams/Lawrence Kasdan can make an interesting and exciting film, for I don't think George Lucas has the ability anymore to make a quality film.

My (now) 5-year-old has just seen the original, restored Star Wars for the first time.  In a theater.  He freaked the fuck out.  It is now, predictably, all Star Wars, all the time, in the house.

This is so awesome. Thanks for all your hard work Mike.

It's a very nice story, It sounds like a poetic end to a chapter of an awful lot of hard work with a splendid reward concerning your sons new interest and how it has affected him.

I listened to your podcast, and I enjoyed what you have to say about all sorts of interests that you have and so fourth, but what really struck me was when you were talking about how after watching Star Wars you had decided at 5 years old you wanted to be a film score composer.... That the music had the most profound effect but also that it was coupled with stunning visuals the like of which the world had never seen before.

I was only 1 year old when Star Wars came out but by 5 years old I too was either watching the film again and again or I had a recording that was made on an old 90 minute Maxwell cassette tape of Star Wars from Betamax. That I would listen too repeatedly because I did not need to see the film I could see it in my mind. I only needed to hear the music dialogue and sound effects and I was transported to that galaxy far far away.

I suppose nobody is alone in that experience when it takes you by force or with the force :) Looking back I guess it also really has influenced me very much without even knowing it until more recently as I love music very much, not all of it but a lot of music and I wanted to be a musician but kind of slipped away from it over the last 5 years due to work commitments mainly.

Anyway I'll get to the point of this spiel now... So the last year and a half (on and off) I have been studying the score to Empire Strikes Back for which I think is possibly one of the best music scores ever committed to film in my opinion I feel like I am nearing the end of that journey now of studying it. My question to you is....

Does the assembled cut (multiple cuts new opening for instance) of the film reels that John Williams scored the music to still exist with the timing bars and animatics and/or rough cuts alternative takes?

Basically what was on the screen when John Williams wrote the various music score?

Is it obtainable or perhaps viewable? Or is there any specific narrative that can address "this footage" with "this music"?

It's not intended to be a derailment either.. I think it's probably something you are interested in and no doubt I am sure you thought about bits or pieces of cut music while you were dabbling within Star Wars Legacy too.

Congratulations to both you (for finishing the project) and your son (to have finally the same experience as millions of people have had over the years) and I just hope I'll be able to see it one day :-)

Do you plan to upload more "educational" videos to vimeo? I really love(d) watching them

I came to terms with not being able to see Legacy a long time ago, what I'm really hoping now is that Mike's website plans come to fruition.  It sounds like it will be a fascinating and amazing resource.  It also sounds like a ton of work to implement, but Mike's proven to have pretty good follow-through ;)

@Ronster -  JW scored to a locked cut of the edit.  This is the only way to assure the flow and structure has that wonderful linear, real-time development quality.  Now, there are usually a handful of minor adjustments made after the scoring session, which is what you have a music editor for - it's his/her job to be able to adjust our scores to fit the new timings whilst retaining the music's internal cohesion as much as possible.  One of the main differences in quality between Williams' OT scores and the prequel was that the prequel films weren't locked when he wrote the score.  He wrote, basically, independent cues and they were mostly music edited into the picture.  So while the individual cues might be great, the scores are missing what he does best - the interwoven connectivity which leads us from moment to moment during the film.  He does it better than anyone.

@Pittrek - Yes, much more coming!

Everyone else stay positive and keep the faith!

The "faith" is kept here.  :)  I've been able to see all the work you have put in and listen to you comment on what you've done via the videos.  I am glad to have even been a part of the audience watching you do what you do.

I'm excited for sure and can't wait to see what happens next.

Thanks Mike!!!

I would like to repeat Jettrell Fo's sentiments, and just say it has been an honor to watch the process. Just to add, thank god this film is now safe. Sure, I'd love to see it, hopefully that will happen, but you have done a service to film preservation, Sir. And that story about your son is awesome cool.

Last warning.

Calm down chief, I was replying to a post above your 'warnings' before I even saw what you put.

As for not knowing when to stop, I think you have me confused with someone else.

I have no idea what the hell some people are talking about in certain posts in this thread, but I wanted to stop by and say this project is amazing and  I hope it comes to be someday. So cool.

mverta, you're the man! And I love the story about your son! Awesome! Just goes to show how powerful the original trilogy really is.

It was a general warning for people to stay on topic. And my reply to mverta was not referring to you.

Moderator warnings ought to be taken seriously in any case.

Is Legacy, a true masterwork itself, going to be used for the rumored new OUT release?

If this were the case I doubt Lucasfilm would want him to say anything about it. It'd be awesome if it is though :)

I'm sure he would have to sign an NDA before even beginning to discuss the possibility of using Legacy, as he would learn about their intent/plans to sell the OOT.
