I think this movie sounds really rad, liking the look of it so far.
Interesting that they've changed it from 'Anthology' to the Star Wars Stories series.

Meh. Aside from his stupid name...I have nothing against Cad Bane....
What else could you possibly need? "Cad Bane"? Are you serious? That can't really be a character name.
Do they have a "Jerk Awful" yet?
How about a "Meany Monsterman"?
For my money "Cad Bane" is a much better name by miles than "Savage Opress."
Seriously, that's like somebody paid a 5-year-old to come up with a new SW character, and he said "he's Darth Maul's twin brother, and his name is Savage Opress!"
Worst part: They couldn't even spell "oppress" right. ;P
“That Darth Vader, man. Sure does love eating Jedi.”

Yeah, it's a poor name. They could have at least spelled his first name as "Savaj" to disguise its underlying juvenility.
He had a fourth brother called Phascyst Boleighboi.
‘Star Wars: Rogue One’ Releases First Photo; Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk Join Cast

“First feel fear, then get angry. Then go with your life into the fight.” - Bill Mollison
The more I look at that photo the more I think the guy with the mustache is Biggs. I could see them wanting to expand on his character to heighten the impact of his loss in Star Wars.
I think you may be right. He looks a lot like Biggs at any rate.
I'd be surprised. What'd be the point?
Anyway, Biggs hasn't made contact with that guy on Bestine yet.
That's a deleted scene remember. While it's included in the novelization, since it's not in the film they could easily decide to ignore it.
As to the point, like I already said; in the original film his death is supposed to be this big moment but since the audience doesn't know the guy it has no impact.
I know I kid.
Is it a big moment? It's a moment for sure, but no bigger than it needs to be for the death of the third to last Rebel fighters left standing out of a group of many. Even if he's a nameless pilot, the fact that his death means there are only two left for the attack run is enough for a dramatic beat.
If we're going by the SE and Biggs is Luke's best friend from back home, the moment probably isn't as big as it should be (Luke's reaction I mean).

That guy in the capital city of Tatooine, you mean? ;-)
As Garrick Hagon is still around, it would be sweet if they gave him the part of a rebel commander or something in one of these films.
Where were you in '77?

My big question is how closely will this lead up to the original film (basically how prequelly will this be)?
What they told us at Star Wars Celebration was that this is the first two paragraphs from the opening crawl:
It is a period of civil war.
Rebel spaceships, striking
from a hidden base, have won
their first victory against
the evil Galactic Empire.
During the battle, rebel
spies managed to steal secret
plans to the Empire's
ultimate weapon, the DEATH
STAR, an armored space
station with enough power to
destroy an entire planet.
Not sure whether that's a joke or not, but I was under the impression that the anthology films weren't going to have crawls.
What? I'm saying the opening of Star Wars' crawl is the premise of Rogue One. I never said anything about it having its own crawl.

I agree, no impact at all. He's someone to many of us here but he was little more than a mention in Star Wars. He's a much bigger part of the expanded NPR version, before Luke gets the droids and later when they meet again before the Death Star attack. It would be nice to have him featured so prominently in the film.

He definitely has a Biggs vibe.

Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you were trying to say that Rogue One was so closely linked to Star Wars that they mean to reuse the first two thirds of the original's crawl in the new movie.
Peter Cushing to be digitally recreated in new spin-off Rogue One
I'm not sure whether to call BS or not. The plans to digitally recreate Cushing aren't exactly new. George tried doing the same thing for Episode III. But the bit about Tarkin having "created Darth Vader" has me scratching my head.
Either this is a sham, or Disney are actually going to retcon at least parts of the prequels. It's likely to be the former, but boy do I hope it's the latter...

I'm betting "create Darth Vader" was a mistake. They probably meant "command Darth Vader". Tarkin creating Vader would also retcon ESB and ROTJ ("I don't want to loose you to The Emperor the way I lost Vader," "You won't convert me as you did my father.")
Lucas tried for a digital Tarkin before casting Scorpius? ;)

Well, in ESB and ROTJ we learn that the Emperor turned Anikin to the darkside, but there's no mention of the Emperor creating his android body parts.
I still call BS as I don't think Disney will ever flat out contradict the PT.
They still need to find a voice. Are there many Cushing impersonators out there?
Their go to man is Stephen Stanton. I think he'd do an excellent job.
He is quite good.
