Please Stop. This doesn't alter the fact that the originals are still unavailable.

I think his point is that you're being unnecessarily dreary and pessimistic about the future of Star Wars. Even if an official version of the OOT is never released, the fan preservations will cover us in that area. We've never seen a history of C&D letters in this community and I see no reason why they would start now. Disney has been in charge for 3 years and nothing has really changed, and isn't likely to. Will we get an official OOT release? Maybe. Maybe not. There is no evidence one way or the other. At the very least, if they are released, you won't be let down since your expectations are low as they are.

We do know that Disney likes to delay home video releases of catalog titles for as long as humanly possible.  Aladdin is just now hitting blu-ray in 2015 in the US.  They're going to play this "now releasing from the vault for a limited time" bullshit for eternity.  I doubt Star Wars will be the exception to their rule.   Who knows what kind of deal they'll have to cut with Fox to share home video releasing rights, just to add one more hurdle to the unending will we get it/won't we get it relay of madness.  That's why I'm so grateful for this community and the incredible work that's done in it.

I similarly stopped spending money on anything Lucasfilm-related years ago because of the OOT's continued absence.

I bought the Blu-rays so I can enjoy Harmy's restorations.

Used, right? This would check the box you want to check, but not give any of your money to LFL.

Actually, I just remembered they were a gift.  But I wouldn't have minded buying them new, it wouldn't change anything.

 Don't you mean "we"?

I didnt buy the BluRays in 2011, didnt buy them when they were reissued in 2013, wont buy them this time. Unless the originals are in their somewhere dont care. I'm not hating on the SE's but I wont watch them unless the originals are packaged with them. In regards to upcoming reissues of SW, I dont even follow Lucasfilm anymore. I'd rather just feed off rumors from an undisclosed sources about an OUT coming out even though I know they've been proven untrue.

So i guess the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars in 2017 is our new/next hope?

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

This has been my hope for a while. I didn't really expect a 2015 release.

I was actually gonna point out how we had a release in 2011, 2013, and now. So yeah I guess we could pencil in 2017 for the next release.

Idk what they had to do, but they clearly were able to do it in order to release these steel-book things so I'm not worried about that.

The logos on the steelbook have LFL and FOX only. I'm guessing this might be Fox trying to make money from TFA while they still can.

I saw the new box art and I was like "Hey, did..." then I realized I would've heard about it beforehand.

I'm not giving up on OOT unless the world burns down. And I'll see TFA.

Since the sale, has anyone affiliated with LFL mentioned the OOT at all in any capacity?

Furthermore, has Kathleen Kennedy actually been asked on record in any interview? It would also be nice to hear JJ chime in with some support. I can only assume that he has asked some folks about it. How could he not, especially with Mr. Pegg as a buddy.

It's pretty odd not to have gotten any official word on the subject in the almost three years since the sale.

What could possibly make it that sensitive of a subject?

Is it still just "too soon" and they don't want to upset GL, despite it not being his company anymore?

Is the Fox situation a roadblock and Disney wants to wait until 2020?

Or is it simply a matter of timing and they don't want to put it out until it makes the most sense business-wise?

This is of course assuming they're planning on eventually putting it out at all, which isn't even a given.

They're are just too many variables, and until I at least hear a rumor that gets picked up by one of the more reputable websites I'm done speculating.

Great post and I totally agree.

Gonna have to agree as well. It's been a year since the rumor leaked on comicbook.com and we haven't had any updates since. So yeah I'm pretty convinced now it was a rumor being spread around to raise attention. Like many of you I really won't raise any hope until a response is given by someone affiliated with Lucasfilm which seems slim to none at this point.

This old ad (1995) just appeared on the official Star Wars tumblr :

Promotional poster for the 1995 edition VHS release.

http://starwars.tumblr.com/post/126703535163/promotional-poster-for-the-1995-edition-vhs

(I don't know what to think of it, at least they're acknowledging the original)

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

I remember that ad campaign. It's strange to think of how honest it ended up being. At the time, I just shrugged it off as Disney Vault type nonsense. "Meh, it'll be back in 3-4 years with 'Experience the Original Like Never Before!'". Not quite how it turned out.

It is odd that they would bring that ad up (then again this may be a 20th anniversary of that release). It's almost offensive as it feels like they're rubbing in the fact that the originals are gone. Then again it could be a sign that they're going to release it again someday. I'm at a point where I just want someone to comment on whether it will be released or not and why. I just want an answer. At least with George Lucas we knew where he stood. With Lucasfilm under Disney I just have no idea.

I'm just happy that with each release of the SE the amazon.com ratings keep dropping, and people are getting more angry in their reviews.

Lucasfilm, don't make your fans angry! You wouldn't like us when we're angry!

I don't understand why anyone other than an overly-obsessive collector would buy the steelbooks. I would imagine most people who want to own the films on blu ray have already purchased the current incarnations by now. The new artwork isn't even very appealing (at least not in my opinion), and if you only want the original trilogy regardless of whether it's the special edition then you already have had the ability to buy the OT on blu ray separate from the PT. 64% of the very few reviews of the OT steelbooks are 1 star on Amazon which is good. Hopefully they'll get the message with this release.
