Cool! Would like to see more of the color corrections.

I can't seem to get the videos to play for some reason. They just won't buffer.

Maybe you can download them? It's worth it! Trust me.

Nah, they're working ok now. The Blu-ray vs. Legacy video is particularly telling (God, those neon colours hurt my eyes!)

I am in awe of everything you do, Mike; I'll be watching with great interest!

I take it Legacy is on schedule for its September release/showing?

I can't believe how good that S-foils scene looks. The difference between the two versions is the difference between having glasses that restore my vision to 20/20 and being horribly myopic and seeing everything through a fuzzy haze.

After watching it, I went right back to watch Harmy's version of that scene and couldn't believe how dark and unclear it looked. Up to now I felt Harmy's magnificent restoration work was definitive - I can't stop singing his praises to my friends; now I know that even perfection can be improved upon. I pray that someone at Disney sees this and gives the Legacy version a chance of a release.

Despecialized uses a 16mm source for elements in that shot so the level of detail is not the same.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

Would a 35mm source garner more favourable results? Or would it be around the same?

Harmy's is actually a 35mm Death Star with GOUT x-wings, I believe. Which would explain the difference in quality compared to Mike's work.

Ah you're correct. My memory was playing games with me.

It depends on the condition of the print. It would probably result in a somewhat better shot, but Mike is working with several prints and combining them to extract as much detail as possible.

He's not releasing it or showing it either.

He's keeping the final product for sale to LFL/Disney if they are somehow interested which would be quite surprising actually.

You're half right. The project was always intended to be shown.

Yeah, he's doing a private screening once he's done. The point of the project was to show his kids the original Star Wars on the big screen.

GOUT X-Wings, yes, but as even the sources documentary indicates, he uses Puggo's 16mm as a source for lowering the noticeable aliasing effects on the wings.  A good 35mm scan would probably lend this scene a world of good, as Mike's work no doubt indicates.

Even if Harmy doesn't, it's remarkable how much detail is in those shots in Ded. Besides, if he did get more 35mm sources there are shots that need it far more than any of the Battle of Yavin scenes.

It would be more accurate to say I'm keeping it safe for the day when it will be released and/or supplanted by an official, superior release.  It is only a matter of time. Have faith.
