4K restoration on Star Wars — Page 87

At least that Manos cover is better than any DVD/Blu cover that any Star Wars film will ever have. This steelbook release is the most pointless release of SW on physical media in a decade. They should of put the originals in to justify this release, but I guess Disney is going to drag us over the coals again just like Lucasfilm before.

Ok the Darth Vader cover of the complete saga Blu-ray is a marginal improvement over the original Jake Lloyd religious painting.

So is there any actual new stuff (i.e., previously unseen) on the steelbook Blu discs, or is it just a completely shameless money grab with no redeeming value whatsoever?

Just thought I'd ask, for the record.

It looks like there is no new stuff that we know of. They repackage BDs in steel books all the time.

Not that it makes any difference, but if they were going for a villain on each Blu-ray cover, it should have gone:

Maul

Dooku

Grevious

Tarkin

Vader

Emperor

I thought the exact same thing.

in the news article they say "previously-released extensive special features", so no, nothing new.

The new steelbook release covers seem to have no real logic or thought behind them other than "lets put some evil characters on the covers but shove Yoda on one of them". A neat way to have done it would've been to have the following:

Maul - Obvious reasons
Jango Fett - Because it's Attack of the Clones, his genetic code is the start of the clones.
Dooku - He may not have much of a role in this one but it is Revenge of the Sith and it makes more sense to have a Sith on the cover.
Luke - Because it's A New Hope. Having this one stand out with the lone non-bad guy character makes more sense.
Vader - I don't think this needs explaining.
Emperor or Yoda - Emperor to fit in with the overall theme, or Yoda to fit in with the whole "Return of the Jedi" feeling.

Alternatively keep it the same up to A New Hope and put Tarkin on a New Hope because Vader already has the slipcase cover. The Emperor on Empire then Luke on Return of the Jedi to fit in with the whole temptation towards the dark side angle.

I don't know some kind of logic other than just throwing the bad guys on the cover just to be cool and throwing Yoda on a random one.

Thanks. I guess I was wrong... there is one redeeming value, in that it seems there's nothing on these re-releases worth my money.

These covers do feed my friend's theory that Yoda is a villain in the prequels.

The official Star Wars app just released an update that includes Star Wars themed emojis, based on characters and such.  They have one for each phase of Vader, even the melted helmet.

The Force ghost one is Hayden.

Subtle, but it's there.

It's worth noting that the covers for ANH and Empire echo those of the 1995 Faces/THX/OneLastTime release.

They used the Emperor instead of Yoda for RotJ. They probably thought Yoda was a better fit for AotC because his lightsaber fight with Dooku is generally considered to be the standout scene of that movie.

I don't think that was intentional. Just sort of happened.

I do like the new Complete Saga artwork much better than the stupid Luke/Anakin one. When most people think of Star Wars they think of Vader, and that evokes this better. It's only really worth it for people who don't own the Complete Saga already, though.

Just think, if Walt Disney was not bitter about losing the rights to Oswald the Rabbit, we could be enjoying the OOT right now as a legitimate release.

I'm surprised they didn't use Boba Fett on the ESB cover.

That there's no Fetts on the covers is the best part. What I'm absolutely baffled by is how in the world Grevious ended up on a cover.

Interestingly, 5 of the cover characters are villains.  I guess the villains make more money?

No, no, no.  Quicker, easier, more seductive.

Copyright. Thanks to the Walt Disney Company it's the author's lifetime plus 70 years. Every time Steamboat Willie nears the expiration of its copyright Disney changes the law to avert this event. If copyright laws did not have this absurdly long time period the OT would have gone into public domain before the SE was released, and we would have the originals as they were.

Whoa--is that what the Interrogation Droid looked like from the front?

From the angle in the movie, I always thought it was a floating black orb with hypodermic needles for arms.

Guess it was more of a giant black-lacquer dildo-totem...

TIL.

Lucasfilm would still physically have the negative and Interpositives, so we'd only have various bootleggy things which is what we have anyway.
