Do you think Disney will release the unaltered versions for DVD and blue ray? — Page 15

The way I see it is that the '04 and '11 editions are inevitably some children's first ever viewings of the films. It's not unlike the days of watching the films on P&S VHS or even the P&S DVDs. They might be inaccurate, nonstandard versions of the films (albeit for different reasons), but somebody watched them for the very first time with Jabba in ANH and with Hayden Christensen in ROTJ. That's their version just like the originals are our version. I for one watched the 2000 VHS rerelease of '97 version in what I'm pretty sure was P&S. I don't have any VHS tapes left in my house but if I had any nostalgia for the format I would buy that set back instantly and put it with my other Star Wars releases and preservations.

I think oftentimes people here forget that point, and while they are wholly entitled to their opinions of the Special Editions, they also forget about "everybody else" for lack of a better term. And to qualify my statement, I agree with most everybody here that the Special Editions are a stain on the franchise, but I am not going to forget about them outright and wish for their exclusion in any upcoming sets.

Remember, those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it!

Correct.

The only option at this point is a multi-version release.

I personally do not think Disney will release the unaltered original trilogy, I think they have contracts to prohibit it. Lucas pretty much seems to despise the original versions and he never wants them seen again from what I can tell. Thank God for the good people here who are restoring the unaltered original trilogy! I refuse to watch the special editions, I really can't even stomach it. The BD set is only good for the extras... which is extremely sad.

Ultimately, someone here will make a hybrid set. Taking the original versions, adding the restored trailers, and the deleted scenes (which we are testing cleanup on), along with other extras.

My first versions were the FS '04 versions, and I still prefer the OUT. But eoth that said, I want a Blu-ray with all the version of all six movies on one set. With that, every fan can be happy no matter what. Mr. Lucas can be happy as well, with his (I quote John Williams,) 'improvements.'

When and if Team Negative -1 releases both the OUT and the 97se, I might make my own semi-specialized cuts using their deconstructed 97se as a base.

edit:keyword *might*. I will make no promises.

So it has now been confirmed there will be no new footage from The Force Awakens shown at San Diego Comic Con this week.

I'm not getting my hopes up (far from it), but I can't help but wonder if Lucasfilm is going to unexpectedly announce a restored OOT.

It would be doubly appropriate considering Comic Con was used to promote the original film way back in '76.

Like I said though, not getting my hopes up....

We doubt there will be any announcement regarding anything related to the original Trilogy.

I think they were told to restrict their group account posts to project threads.

I don't have a problem with team accounts as long as the account is used to post in the team's own topics about their own projects. Using a team account to post your personal opinions in other threads isn't necessary and should be discouraged.

This is coming directly from Jay, (the fellow who owns this site, in case you didn't know) not me. Further ignoring of this will require him to get directly involved. And I don't think he will be as lenient about this end run around the sockpuppet rule as I've been thus far.

This means you, team_negative1.

Howcome Frink's moronathon mini-mod crusade against the Team and his snarky one-liners have been getting a free pass this whole time?  It's starting to look like a goddamn witch hunt over here. I don't care how rude/perplexing -1 was to him, it's getting old

Frink's are satire. Negative-1 uses an allegedly real group account to rant about how they all collectively think 4K is a failure and the OOT can never be released (both without any support stated). Two things that are really good news for a bunch of people working on a 1080p release of the OOT.

I don't know what the rules are or should be. But I'll find it nice personally if they are restricted to their own threads. But only because everything I've seen outside of their threads makes me like them less. And I'd much prefer to like them, as their projects are great! So, I'm biased.

We aren't sure, but it's probably because we know "howcome" should be two words.

Actual lol. Why do I find tongue-in-cheek neuroticism so funny? I can't stay annoyed at Frink.

We think Disney will not restore theatrical versions and release them in a higher resolution format.

Running gag.  We have a certain member who uses first person plural way more than he should, in an attempt to convince people he's no longer there and has been replaced entirely by an entirely different group of people who just happen to post in his same idiosyncratic style, share his idiosyncratic interests, and seem oddly oversensitive to people who even accidentally use the name of his former singular identity.

So this has spawned a team of tongue-in-cheek copycats, naturally.
