Back to Star Wars please?

Yes, sorry!

Has anyone here ever played the Japanese NAMCO Star Wars game for the Famicom (a.k.a., NES in the US) that was released in 1987?

Don't confuse this with the JVC Star Wars NES game released in 1991.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_%281987_video_game%29

I hear good things about it.

I have, and at one point made a video walkthrough before I deleted it. That game was hard on easy mode. Only a few lives, with seemingly no way to add to them. No passwords. No continues. Several Vader clones that transform into monsters (quoth the AVGN, "I am your father, and I am also a ****ing scorpion") The only way I was able to beat the game was savestates, and even then I died a couple times.

One thing to note is that the famicom and nes empire strikes back games are the same, the only real difference being the ladder has japanese text.

I'd love to see an anime (or even better, toku) adaption of the famicom star wars game.

I played that game myself some time ago. It was funny, more like a Star Wars parody, and it gives a sense of adventure and freedom (in using Force Powers and... getting lost :D ). Also, guess who gets a medal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TG3BEHdRHI&feature=youtu.be&t=2238

Star Wars is again reduced to mindless action sequences. "It wouldn't be Star Wars without epic space battles." So where is the epic space battle of Empire?

I'd even say the first "epic" space battle was the one in Jedi, since that's the first one with capital ships on both sides. The dogfights around the first Death Star are intense, but for me they don't qualify as "epic".

I don't know if the Falcon's chase sequences are "epic", but I'd like to watch more of them. Funny thing is that they aren't great because of the special effects, but because of their impressive visuals.

P.S.: I found ROTJ's space battles boring. Thankfully, they didn't last as much as in AOTC...

The Falcon's chase sequence doesn't even count as space battle. They are fleeing, not fighting. Irrespective of wether it's boring or not, the only big space battle of the OOT is the one in Jedi. I would even say the attack on the droid control ship in TPM isn't an "epic space battle". Jango chasing Obi-Wan in AOTC isn't epic either, there are just two small ships chasing each other around. This makes the beginning of ROTS the only other epic space battle.

Maybe I'm wrong, but to me the term epic implies some sort of greatness. If they would have said "It wouldn't be Star Wars without space battles", I wouldn't care at all.

Edit: But then, Empire still hasn't a space battle...

I actually meant AOTC's Geonosis's "epic" space battle :D, but you're right. They probably just used some random words, though, your usual journalistic rhetoric. Maybe it's their way to tell us we're supposed to look forward to see "epic" space battles in the next movies?

We have epic hair, but we don't go writing articles about it.

A quick thought popped into my head while staring off into space at work. I would in no way be offended if JJ was to digitally manipulate Carrie Fisher's voice in TFA.

No one asked for any opinion of yours, foolish mortal. ;)

Did anyone see the epic lightsaber battle on Conan last night? The Force is strong with him! ;)

No, we doubt anyone would want to do such a thing.

I think you broke SilverWook, dude.  ;)

It's Morse code.  He said "H".  Could be Han.  Maybe he's being strangled by a Wookiee and all he has nearby is a telegraph machine?

If it's ''H'' and he's being strangled by a Wookiee, don't you think it would mean ''help''?

It could also mean "harder".

I ran with that idea, then remembered that Silverwook is himself a Wookiee, so he could be strangling himself... and then I really didn't want to run with that idea anymore.
