Gutted :(

At least he's reunited with Peter Cushing.

And Saruman :( Well at least he had a long life

Sad news.

Gormenghast was probably the first thing I saw him in when it aired here in the States on PBS in the summer of 2000. Right around that same time I read an interview with him in SciFi magazine, talking about his career and that he was playing Saruman in LotR. I think by that point it was known he had a role in the as-yet-untitled Episode II, a role not dissimilar from his Hammer cohort Peter Cushing's in Star Wars '77.

I remember finding it pretty mind-blowing that a guy pushing 80 was taking on such big roles in these huge franchises.

It wasn't until later that I saw his earlier work, like The Wicker Man and The Man with the Golden Gun, although I still haven't actually seen any of his Hammer/Dracula stuff (must rectify this soon).

How cool that he was able to reprise his role of Saruman for The Hobbit.

What an extraordinary life!

He will be missed.

That's really a terrible news. He was a great actor, his voice was legendary, and I still think he did a great job in the Prequels in both the acting and in doing part of Dooku's stunts. And now he's dead, just like Yoda's Italian voice actor less than a week ago...

btw, did you know Lee was a singer in an Italian band? :D

Of all the wonderful films he took part in, the thread title has to mention his worst and least interesting role.
Shame.

I just found out earlier today the Sir Christopher Lee had passed. He and his films have had a very big impact on my life. He was 93, so of course this news isn't totally unexpected, but still... Sad news.

We didn't loose Count Dooku, we lost a wonderful human being.

Sad news, RIP. :(

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

Well, this is the Star Wars part of the forum ...

He was truly one of the greats.  Regardless of our views on AOTC and ROTS, we all must admit the man made some pretty terrible dialogue bearable and even good in some cases.  The astounding vibrato in his voice commanded respect and yet could also deliver the most soft spoken of lines with utter believability and brilliance.  It's rare that an actor can be recognized by any generation they are put in front of and Sir Christopher Lee did.  The older generation knew him from Hammer's horror films and James Bond, the younger generation knew him from Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.   RIP Sir Christopher Lee.

Count Dooku died a long time ago in a galaxy far far away.

He was a bit of rotter too. The man who murdered him died as well and the old bloke that was their boss.

He got thrown down a hole in the floor that had no other purpose being there.

His former employee fell down a hole in the floor too but that might have served some sort of purpose what with it being a high tech power station attached to a space ship garage attached to a Royal palace.

Damn. I was watching 1941 last night. :(

His real military career in WWII probably rivaled any part he ever played. And the details of that will probably remain hush hush.

Frankly I'm stunned that Christopher Lee has passed away. He seemed like one of those actors that would be around forever :(

Same here. He never ceased to be healthy and remained active.

*shrugs* Meh.

Come on ... last time i checked originaltrilogy.com was not founded to bash & hate everything about the Prequels (sure those movies have their flaws). In this case - the death of Christopher Lee - I guess we can all admire one of the few things that were actually good.

Rogue One is redundant. Just play the first mission of DARK FORCES.

Yes, Lucas could have done more with the character. Bumping Dooku off so early in ROTS seems a waste. It is to Lee's credit I believed Dooku wasn't dyed in the wool evil in AOTC, and more of a double agent character, if only for a little while.

And The Howling II is a turkey so bad, Lee allegedly apologized to director Joe Dante, (who made the original film) for being in it.

While I don't think Lee's Dooku character was the best, he definitely one of the highlights of the PT.  He was definitely a pro.

My second Bond film to see in the theater (1974) and has remained a Top Five ever since.  The soundtrack is in my car as we speak.  Don't know that I've ever been without it.

Rest in peace, sir.  You will be missed.

How sad. :( I liked him, though I never had a chance to see many of his movies.

Ol’ George has the GOUT, I see.

TCM is doing a Lee movie marathon tribute on June 22nd.

There was this black and white horror film I could only recall fragments of, as I saw it on tv when I was very young. Used to drive me crazy as to what the name could have been or who was in it. Much to my surprise and delight, when TCM dug up a battered print on Halloween a couple years ago, it turned out to one of Sir Lee's films, Castle of the Living Dead.

Although he never really stopped acting, I want to thanks Tim Burton for casting Chris Lee in a small role in Sleepy Hollow in 1999. This looks like it started his last part of his carriere in big blockbusters movies.

Despite the fact that i thought the  Star Wars prequels and the last hobbit movie were not that good. I will still miss him.

The first film i ever saw him in was Man with the Golden Gun.
