Episode VII: The Force Awakens - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD * — Page 121

Remember that Into Darkness takes place in an alternate timeline. Khan wasn't resurrected, just rebooted as a lot more white and a lot more British.

And yes, you can reasonably blame that decision and the entire movie's bizarre 9/11 Truther undertones on Orci.

generalfrevious;

What would happen if Darth Vader was resurrected at the end of Episode VII?

Here's something the board may not expect from me;  That could work if done properly.  No different than Batman being a symbol of good, with the man under the mask remaining unknown.

In this new film they're obviously aware of who he was, as well as it appearing there are many people who want to see the Empire survive.  No reason a particularly mean or ambitious person couldn't be pushed into taking up the identity thirty years later.

Darth Vader could easily become a similar type of symbol for evil.  Moved away from the original storyline of our heroes and familial connections, he could be a bad person continuing the tradition of fear and war mongering.  Wouldn't even have to have Empire or First Order connections.

Ok what about Jakku? I hope it isn't Tatooine all over again, much like John Harrison was Kahn all along. We've seen that planet five times already.

I wonder if Jakku will turn out to be a sad story. Beautiful world, turned to desert from the fallout of the massive battle that littered its surface with wreckage.

Dude, nobody knowsNothing has been told of the plot save for script leaks that may or may not be true. We'll have to hold off until a more detailed trailer or, at the very latest, December.

Well, the Force Awakens is written by Lawrence Kasdan (writer of ESB AND ROTJ) so I doubt they would do something THAT silly.

Luckily, if JJ does add children to the film, he at least knows how to direct children. I'd argue that the standard for child actors has raised considerably since 1999. George should've had Anikan start out at fighting age in the first film, so his transition from hero to villain would be more of a gradual thing.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I'd argue that the standard for child actors was raised considerably long before 1999.

Each decade has had its fair share of excellent child actors.

Wasn't Boba Fett eaten by the desert vagina?

Max Von Sydow Reportedly Confirmed as Boba Fett in Star Wars: The Force Awakens

That kinda works I guess. However until any more details arise I won't consider it to me that reliable a claim, but if it turns out to be true then at least it means we won't have to see Tamuera Morrison for the umpteenth time in a Star Wars film. However I doubt that Abrams would deviate from the prequels THAT much despite apparently not being a fan. Not that I would personally complain about it, and I'm sure it would make many OT fans happy, but it does seem unlikely (especially after Abrams stated he was trying to please as many SW fans as possible).

Max Von Sydow and Tamuera Morrison definitely don't resemble each other: either they're wrong, or the new Star Wars movie contradicts the PT (and I highly doubt it's the case).

Looks like we had a lucky escape when they decided to throw out George's ideas for the new saga.

Abrams keeps talking about wanting to evoke the feel of the originals rather than the prequels—in the Vanity Fair story, he says he considered putting Jar Jar Binks's bones in the background of a Force Awakens scene.

I understand people disliking Jar-Jar, but wouldn't it be too much? :D

Those who truly dislike Jar Jar wouldn't want any reference to him in the film. Even if it means showing that he died, it would still pollute the film with his presence and made you think about him. When it comes to PT stuff, the best way is to ignore it.

Exactly.

Addressing it in even the slightest way, no matter the form, keeps it alive.

Reminds me of a 60 Minutes interview with Morgan Freeman several years ago where Mike Wallace asked him about how to get rid of racism.  I've thought about his response a hundreds times over since then and I agree.

"Stop talking about it".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GeixtYS-P3s

His response makes sense for any manner of things you wish to start healing and moving past.  Racism is a million times more serious, but the principle applies.

Constantly making fun of, hating, and trying to cure the franchise of Binks only serves to keep him alive and relevant.

That character was a symbol of how terrible a writer and film maker Lucas had become by the late 90s. He has absolutely no place what so ever in this new film and restored storyline.

Putting him in this film - even as a reference to how hated he was - puts him in this film. The poor grammar is intentional to make the obvious statement.

I sincerely hope he remains in the past.

Is it considered canon, according to Disney, that Boba Fett is still alive?  The canon part of Wookieepedia (if this is considered reliable) implies that he died, but doesn't directly say so.

Boba fought against the Rebel rescuers and was inadvertently knocked into the mouth of the sarlacc by Solo, to be slowly digested for one thousand years.

Disney may not give a crap about the EU canon, but if Abrams and Kasdan write it into TFA then it's canon simply because they wrote it. And Abrams seems to already have borrowed elements from the EU so it's not impossible, and it would definitely please a lot of fans.

I still remember George's words during that scene on the '04 RotJ dvd commentary, and they were something along the lines of "Y'know, if I'd known he would become such a beloved character I never would've killed him off. Most people think he never really died anyway."

That last part is probably a reference to Dark Empire (which we know George read at one point) and maybe the other post-Jedi EU he appears in, although the "most people" qualifier seems to drive home George's own opinion of the EU which he's shared elsewhere in interviews.
