Only five years? The first three movies spanned ca. seven years and there were plenty of good tie-in/EU material for the following 15-ish years or so. Sure there's been a lot of weird stuff since 1999, but there was a lot of great books, comics, games, etc. in the years before, and even some after. The problem with Star Wars is it's size and scope; tie-in merchandise ranging from the Ewoks cartoon to stuff like Shadows of the Empire. I think it would be more right to say that Star Wars is one of the most diverse franchises that exists, and in eight months it will be even larger, for better and for worse.

The early 90's was practically the renaissance of Star Wars, as far as the EU is concerned. As a kid I spent more time with EU stuff like Shadows of the Empire, Dark Empire, the Jedi Knight game series, etc. than I did the actual movies. The post Phantom Menace EU on the other hand got kind of weird. It became this weird mix of mismatching concept, not to mention a lot of retconning.

It tickles me how supposed hardcore Star Wars fans like the above fellow enjoy only two movies--hell, very specific versions of two movies--in a franchise spanning nearly four decades. Makes you think.

Anyways, I just saw Attack the Block for the first time and it was great, John Boyega especially. Can't wait to see what he does as Finn.

I own and watch only one version of one of the films, which I saw at least once a week in the theater during the summer of 1977. I only saw the third and fourth films once each. I didn't bother with the last two pieces of shit. I Haven't seen any SEs, nor will I ever.

Yet I'm beyond excited and completely on-board with the seventh film now that Lucas is completely uninvolved.

Thoughts?

I am more curious as to what Max Von Sydow is going to be doing in the film than anything. The man is a legend from the tail end of the golden age. He's part of that Alec Guinness, Richard Harris, and Peter Cushing era. Yes, he's been in some lesser films, but who hasn't? I don't think he's been bad in any of those films.

Christopher Lee was also from that era, but Lucas was directing.

I imagine he'll be some kind of dark character, because his resume makes him well more than qualified to play that role. I am hoping though, that he doesn't. I would like to see him play a good character. It would be tempting to make him an old exiled Jedi, but I hope Abrams eases off the Jedi overkill that plagued the prequels. 20 sabers in a frame was overkill.

Whatever they chose for him to play, I hope they give him the opportunity to spread his wings.

Agree. Taken straight from the Cantina. Look at the droid. Why wouldn't there be a female pirate droid? Of course there would be. There is a droid bounty hunter in ESB. There is definitely a Star Wars look to the whole thing that extends beyond the troopers or the falcon.

some original Mos Eisley Cantina aliens, I do get the OT vibe on the new images/trailer! So far I'm going to the first midnight premier screening, let's hope the upcoming trailers keep me in the same path.

The orange and blue color scheme bothers me...well except for red over there, and what is he doing with that hand??

Edit: Although the more I look a it, theres quite a bit of brown and yellow. Not many dye options on a desert planet I guess, but we'll see how they color grade the film.

What would happen if Darth Vader was resurrected at the end of Episode VII? I mean Kahn was brought back for STID, but that might have been a terrible Orci/Kurtzman decision anyways.
